Where is Direction Island? Cocos Keeling Islands

When you google Direction Island, you will undoubtedly find stunning photos of crystal clear water, lush green jungle and white untouched beaches... But Wait!...Where is Direction Island?

We had to do some research & found that there is such a place called Cocos Islands or Cocos Keeling Islands...and lucky for us, it's part of Australia. Among these 27 islands that make up the Cocos Keeling Islands, is Direction Island, voted Australia's best beach in 2017.

It's completely un-inhabited and you can walk around the island very easily. The ferry goes there twice a week from West Island and you can relax, swim or snorkel. Be sure to bring a snorkel set with you, food and water for a guaranteed magnificent day. Oh and off course, don't forget your camera!

If there's only one good thing that has come from Covid 19, it's that we've found a new must-go-to holiday destination.

Flights to the Cocos-Keeling Islands are only via Virgin Australia. We stayed at the Cocos Village Bungalows which we definitely recommend. Stay tuned for more videos on these islands.

You seem nice! ????

ABOUT US:

We are Mike and Serina. We love travel, adventure and fitness. One of our most memorable adventures was climbing #MtKinabalu in Sabah, Malaysia. Whilst there are travel restrictions in place, we have decided to take our #hiking adventures local, exploring what Perth and Western Australia have to offer. Join us as we go for weekly hikes and share our adventures.

For those of you that have been following us for awhile, you will know that Serina was born in #Malaysia and we both love spending time there, visiting friends and family and immersing ourselves in the culture. We hope to go back there as soon as we can, so Mike has been spending time learning how to speak Bahasa Melayu.

Terimah Kasih, jumpa lagi!

MAP OF COCOS KEELING ISLANDS

salutations my friends. this is a map of the the cocos keeling islands. The Cocos (Keeling) Islands consist of two flat, low-lying coral atolls with an area of 14.2 square kilometres , 26 kilometres of coastline, a highest elevation of 5 metres and thickly covered with coconut palms and other vegetation. The climate is pleasant, moderated by the southeast trade winds for about nine months of the year and with moderate rainfall. Tropical cyclones may occur in the early months of the year. excuse me. please comment about the cocos keeling islands. continuing.

North Keeling Island is an atoll consisting of just one C-shaped island, a nearly closed atoll ring with a small opening into the lagoon, about 50 metres wide, on the east side. The island measures 1.1 square kilometres in land area and is uninhabited. The lagoon is about 0.5 square kilometres . North Keeling Island and the surrounding sea to 1.5 km from shore form the Pulu Keeling National Park, established on 12 December 1995. It is home to the only surviving population of the endemic, and endangered, Cocos Buff-banded Rail.

South Keeling Islands is an atoll consisting of 24 individual islets forming an incomplete atoll ring, with a total land area of 13.1 square kilometres. Only Home Island and West Island are populated. The Cocos Malays maintain weekend shacks, referred to as pondoks, on most of the larger islands. thats all for now. thanks for listening. please subscribe for the best maps and for the love of the Cocos keeling islands. goodbye. #mapschool #maps #mapas #mapsolo #cocoskeelingislands

ABOUT THE ISLANDS

Christmas Island and Cocos (Keeling) Islands are the most western part of Australia. Cocos is a chain of 27 islands that form around the ring of an extinct volcano and offer the quintessential tropical holiday destination with gorgeous white sandy beaches, most of which are uninhabited and offer the quintessential tropical paradise vacation. Christmas Island is a world famous Australian outpost in the Indian Ocean surrounded by jagged cliffs, punctuated by coral beaches, feeding on to tropical reefs teeming with marine life. Most famous for its 90+ species of crabs, like the Christmas Island Red Crab and the Robber Crab, the bird life on Christmas Island cannot be missed either. Birds are everywhere – all the time! Christmas Island boasts one of the most beautiful birds on the planet – the golden morph of the White-tailed Tropicbird, or Golden Bosun. Their mesmerising aerial acrobatics and distinctive call can be heard all around the island.
