Oldest African Presidents

Welcome to Real JeRi, where we delve into the most pressing issues facing Africa and the world today. In this video, we explore the Top 10 Oldest Presidents in Africa in 2023. Despite Africa being a young continent, some of its leaders are notably old, with a significant age gap between them and the median age of their citizens. We take a closer look at the top 10 oldest presidents, their leadership, and the implications of having older leaders at the helm.

We start with Paul Biya of Cameroon, the oldest president in Africa and one of the oldest in the world, who has been serving as the president of Cameroon for 41 years. Next is Hage Gottfried Geingob of Namibia, who, at 81, is currently in his second term as president. Alassane Ouattara of Ivory Coast, an 81-year-old economist, is serving his third term as elected president. Teodoro Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea is the longest-serving president in Africa and the world, having held office for 43 years.

Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe assumed office as president in 2017 at the age of 75 and is currently 80 years old. Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana, a prominent politician, assumed the presidency in 2017 after two previous unsuccessful attempts. Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, a retired senior military officer, has been serving as the president of Uganda since 1986. Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria assumed office in December 2019 and has been facing political and social unrest.

Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti has been serving as the president since 1999, holding the position for over two decades. Finally, Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria, currently 71 years old, served as governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 and is now the 16th president of Nigeria.

The age of some African leaders raises questions about their ability to perform their duties effectively and the potential implications of having older leaders at the helm. While some have been successful in their governance, others have faced criticism and challenges, leading to political and social unrest. As Africa continues to evolve, it is essential to have leaders who can navigate the complex challenges of the 21st century and address the needs and aspirations of their citizens.

We encourage you to subscribe to Real JeRi to stay updated on the latest developments and events occurring in Africa and the world at large.
