Copenhagen is the capital and largest city of Denmark. It is located on three main islands: Zealand, Amager and Slotsholmen. The latter is the historical center of the city where the first settlement was located. Translated from the Old Danish, the word Copenhagen means The Merchant’s Harbor.
In today's video, we will talk about the top-10 must-visit attractions of Copenhagen. All of them can be explored independently or in interesting tours led by guides and locals.
Let’s get started with the top-7 things to see in Copenhagen.
In the 7th place in our Copenhagen Tour Guide is the Nyhavn, or the New Harbour. This typically Danish charming area is the center of Copenhagen's tourist life. The canal and harbour were built in the second half of the 17th century. The royal family decided to dig the canal to create a waterway from its Charlottenborg palace to the Øresund Strait. Harbor is the place where sightseeing and fishing boats moor. There are also inhabited houseboats. Visiting the New Harbor is free of charge at any time.
In the 6th place of our ranking is Rosenborg Castle. It is considered one of the main attractions of Copenhagen. The castle is located in a 5-hectare park, surrounded on three sides by a moat. Rosenborg had served as the royal residence, until Frederick IV built the Frederiksberg castle in 1710. After that, Rosenborg was mainly used for official receptions. Around the castle is the Royal Garden – the most popular park in the Danish capital.
In the 5th place is Amalienborg Palace. This is currently the residence of the ruling royal family. The castle is notable for its history and original architecture. It attracts tourists with an unusual changing of the guards of honour. In the center of the square is an equestrian statue of Frederick IV.
Another palace, Christiansborg, is in the 4th place. It is located on Slotsholmen island, near the port of Copenhagen. That’s where the city used to begin. Slotsholmen is also called the Island of Power. The residences of Danish rulers and the main state institutions have always been here. Nowadays, the Danish Parliament is sitting in Christiansborg palace. There are also Royal reception rooms and the residence of the government.
In the 3rd place there are the City Hall and the City Hall Square.
The City Hall is one of the most famous landmarks in the Danish capital. This red brick building opened in 1905. Its 106-meter tall clock tower is one of the tallest buildings in the city.
The City Hall Square is located in front of the City Hall. It is quite spacious and has many interesting objects on it, steeped in legends and stories. For example, here is a fountain of a bull tearing a dragon, and a bronze statue of Hans Christian Andersen.
The National Museum of Denmark is in the 2nd place in our ranking. It was opened in 1892 and is the largest museum of cultural history. Its exhibits represent various world cultures. Here are the objects that were used in religious ceremonies in pre-Columbian America, magic amulets from Greenland, ethnic costumes of Native Americans, clothes of Japanese samurai and mysterious Indian gods. Special attention is given to the Viking Age. There’s a rich collection of various artifacts, including stones with ancient runes.
The 1st place in our ranking we gave to Kastellet Fortress and the nearby attractions. This is one of the best-preserved citadels in Northern Europe. Like any such system of fortifications, Kastellet has the shape of a five-pointed star with bastions in the corners. Almost no stone walls or towers survived to this day. But the defensive earthworks with ancient cannons on them remained.
Near the fortress is one of the world-famous symbols of Copenhagen and the whole Denmark – the bronze statue of Little Mermaid.

1) Take a walk around Nyhavn
Nyhavn, meaning 'New Harbour', was constructed in the 17th century as a commercial port where ships from all over the world would dock. Today, the beautiful old houses have been renovated and classy restaurants dominate the old port. Nyhavn is filled with people enjoying the relaxed atmosphere by the canal, jazz music, and great food.
2) Visit Amalienborg Palace & Museum
Amalienborg Palace, located in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark, is a stunning example of Danish Rococo architecture and the official residence of the Danish royal family. Comprised of four identical palace buildings arranged around an octagonal courtyard, Amalienborg Palace offers visitors a unique insight into the lives and history of Denmark's monarchy.
Designed by architect Nicolai Eigtved in the 18th century, the Amalienborg Palace complex was originally intended to house four noble families. However, following the devastating fire at Christiansborg Palace in 1794, the royal family moved into Amalienborg, and it has been their residence ever since.
3) Explore the Botanical Gardens
The Copenhagen Botanical Garden, also known as The University of Copenhagen Botanical Garden, is a botanical garden located in the centre of Copenhagen, Denmark. It covers an area of 10 hectares and is particularly noted for its extensive complex of historical glasshouses dating from 1874.
One of the garden's most notable features is its historic complex of glasshouses, dating back to 1874. These beautifully preserved structures provide the perfect environment for the garden's diverse collection of plants, including tropical and subtropical species, as well as rare and endangered plants. As you explore the glasshouses, you'll be transported to different ecosystems and climates, marvelling at the variety of flora thriving in these unique environments.

Located in the city centre, Torvehallerne Market is more than just a place to buy groceries. The Round Tower, or Rundetaarn in Danish, is an iconic landmark in the heart of Copenhagen, Denmark. This 17th-century tower was built as an astronomical observatory and has since become a popular destination for visitors seeking panoramic views of the city and a unique architectural experience.
Constructed during the reign of King Christian IV, the Round Tower was designed by architect Hans Steenwinckel the Younger. The tower was originally built as part of the Trinitatis Complex, which also included a university library and a church, with the aim of creating a centre for science and knowledge in Denmark.

Copenhagen, Denmark’s capital, sits on the coastal islands of Zealand and Amager. It’s linked to Malmo in southern Sweden by the Öresund Bridge. Indre By, the city's historic center, contains Frederiksstaden, an 18th-century rococo district, home to the royal family’s Amalienborg Palace. Nearby is Christiansborg Palace and the Renaissance-era Rosenborg Castle, surrounded by gardens and home to the crown jewels.
Denmark is a Scandinavian country comprising the Jutland Peninsula and numerous islands. It's linked to nearby Sweden via the Öresund bridge. 48 HOURS IN COPENHAGEN, DENMARK VLOG: 10 Things to See & Do - Nyhavn, Christiania, Gasoline Grill
We spent a very quick 48 hours in Copenhagen, Denmark. Walking all over the city we ate brunch in Mad & Kaffe and The Union Kitchen, amazing burgers at Gasoline Grill, Danish pastries at Skt. Peders Bageri, open sandwiches at Barock and got the meat sweats at Warpigs.
Along with all the eating, we also saw the sights of Copenhagen including The Little Mermaid Statue, Freetown Christiania, Nyhavn and more!

National Museum of Denmark
The largest museum in Denmark has a beautiful collection of Danish and foreign cultural history. In the Prince's Palace, which was built in the 18th century, you can see artefacts from the Stone Age, the Viking Age, and up to the present day. People come to this world-class museum from all over Denmark and from all over the world. Prepare for a lot of people, especially during the busy times. Tip: Get there early, and if you can, go during the week.
Number 5 COPENHILL COPENHAGEN
CopenHill Copenhagen
CopenHill is a waste-to-energy plant that was designed by the Danish architect Bjarke Ingels. Why would anyone want to go to a plant that turns trash into energy? Well, the building has a ski slope, a climbing wall, and a cafe. It is a real architectural wonder that is worth seeing. Even if you don't want to ski down the 1,300-foot slope, you will still want to watch what's going on. At least stop by the cafe for a beer after skiing.
Number 4 THE ALCHEMIST RESTAURANT COPENHAGEN
The Alchemist Restaurant Copenhagen
The Alchemist is on many people's bucket list of places to eat, and its menu is built around 47 creative, complicated courses. Even if you don't like all of them (and how could you? ), they will either challenge you or surprise you in a good way. So, this isn't a place where you can eat a quick meal with your kids. On the contrary, it's where you go when you've saved up for months so you can celebrate something really special.

CopenHot is kind of like a spa that is outside. There are no massages here, but it makes up for that by being really cool. In the trendy industrial neighbourhood of Nordhavn, there is a group of wooden hot tubs and saunas that look out over the water. You can come to one of their open days or rent a tub for a group. There are many ways to warm up and relax. The clean, mineral-rich saltwater in barrel-wood hot tubs is heated from below by a fire.

Rosenborg Castle
Christian IV, one of the most famous Scandinavian kings, built this castle as a summer home for the royal family in 1606. Now, it's like a time capsule full of treasures and works of art that show how royal Copenhagen used to be. Spend an hour or two here walking the halls like the kings and queens of Denmark used to do. Don't miss the Knights' Hall and its thrones for crowning kings and queens. You'll also find the king's private writing cabinet, living rooms, and bathroom. There is also a large collection of beautiful Venetian glass.

If you are interested in Danish design, you have to go to the Design Museum Danmark. The building is a beautiful example of Rococo architecture. It is also a work of art in its own right. Inside, it has decorative art, glass, ceramics, fashion, textile, and poster art, as well as industrial design from Denmark and around the world, from the Middle Ages to the present day.
