Bonnechere Caves - Eganville, Ontario, Canada

There's a place in eastern Ontario that allows you to go over 100 feet underground. The Bonnechere Caves is a MUST-experience!

Put on a light sweater, wear comfy shoes, go deep underground and millions of years back in time. Located about 2 hours west of Ottawa, along the Bonnechere River, guided tours give you an up close and personal look into the caves and how they were formed.

You’ll also learn more about different types of rocks, the impact glaciers have had on the landscape and of course, fossils!

We were guests of Chris Hinsberger at Bonnechere Caves in Eganville Ontario. We had an incredible time exploring the 500,000,000-year-old fossils and the incredible rooms of this very cool cave in Ontario.

Our guide regaled us with stories about how the cave was discovered in 1955 and the misadventures of its founder, Tom Woodward.

This is a tourist cave with guided tours. Not what we would usually do, but we have wanted to check these out for some time. This was mostly worth the $17 to get in. From what we could see, there is plenty more cave to be explored that is not open to the public. Be sure to check out the side passage that the guide does not go down.

Today, we head out to discover and explore Bonnechere Caves in Eganville, Ontario. As we leave Ewetopia Farms behind, we morph into The Wandering Shepherds as we attempt to escape the humidity, heat, and rain on our sheep farm and head out on an adventure to seek cooler temperatures underground. Although not on the grand scale of typical large tourist caves seen in other countries, these caves, like Canadians, are more modest in scope but nonetheless worth the visit - especially if you want to escape the heat for a little while. Join us as we take a guided tour through the caves.
