📌 Save for your Mexico City trip! 🇲🇽
(Full video live on my channel!)
Mexico City is one of my favorite cities in the world, and one of the reasons is because there is just SO much to do there! So it was really hard to narrow it down, but if you only had a few days to explore the city, these are the top 5 things you can’t miss (aside from eating ALL THE FOOD 🤤).
💁🏻♀️ These are my favorites of the city so of course they are all included in my Mexico City group trip itinerary happening this March! Check the comments for more info! 🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
1. Tour the Centro Historico
Here you can see the famous Zocalo square, Catedral Metropolitan, Templo Mayor, Palacio Postal, and Fine Arts Palace, just to name a few.
2. See a Lucha Libre show
Lucha Libre is such a fun way to experience Mexican culture and entertainment. Order a massive cerveza, learn some “colorful” phrases to shout at the wrestlers, and watch as they try to de-mask fellow wrestlers. 🤼♂️
3. Visit Chapultepec Castle
Chapultepec Park in itself is a must, but the castle is the main attraction. Tour the castle grounds and gardens, visit the museum located inside, and see a stunning view of both the park and city from atop the hill. 🦗
4. Ride a trajinera at Xochimilco
The Xochimilco canals are what is left of the ancient canals of Tenochtitlán. Now it’s a festive and colorful gathering place for families and tourists alike, and an absolute party. 🎉
5. Visit the Teotihuacan Pyramids
These are about 45 minutes outside the city, and one of the most significant places in Mexico City’s history. You Can tour the archeological site, ride ATVs, visit nearby caves, and even do a sunrise hot air balloon ride. 🎈
Which ones will you be adding to your Mexico City itinerary? 🤔

In southern Mexico City, a gritty working-class neighborhood gives way to the famous canals of Xochimilco, the last remnants of a vast water transport system built by the Aztecs. Colorful gondola-like boats take visitors on cruises while food vendors, artisans and mariachi bands float past. The atmosphere is festive, especially on weekends.

Xochimilco - Fiesta Every Day on the Canals of Mexico City!
The town of Xochimilco, Mexico has been around for many centuries. Even before the Spanish arrived to Mexico. It is on a canal system with artificial islands that are navigated by gondola-like boats called trajineras. It is still much like it was hundreds of years ago with the canals and human-powered boats so it is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and welcome for tourists. You will see mostly Mexicans enjoying their time here hanging out with friends but some foreigners as well. It's like having a party on a boat with lots of other boat parties going on around you. Only Mexico can do something like this.

The Best Day Trip in Mexico City: Xochimilco
What better way to spend a day than with beer, tacos & live music aboard these colorful boats (known as trajineras)?
Just 40 minutes away from Mexico City, you'll find the canals of Xochimilco. There's over 1000 boats ready to be rented for about $30 USD per hour (food and drinks are extra!) You can rent them for parties or just to spend a laid-back afternoon. The mariachis jump on board and perform songs for you -each song is $100 Mexican Pesos.
Oh, and you can eat chapulines (grasshoppers) on the way in!

Xochimilco - STREET FOOD TOUR and BOAT RIDE on Canals of Mexico City!

►Mexico City street food guide:
Xochimilco is one of the most interesting cultural areas to visit when you’re in Mexico City. It was formerly a series of pre-Hispanic villages along Lake Xochimilco. Eventually Mexico City expanded and grew all the way to Xochimilco, and now it’s one of the boroughs of the city.
What’s most remarkable about Xochimilco, and the reason most people go to visit is because of the extensive network of canals that form the framework of the area. Nowadays, you can rent the brightly colored boats and take a ride, eating and drinking along the way. I was there on a weekend evening, and it was a bit more rowdy and loud than I had wanted it to be, but it was still very fun. If you go during the daytime, you might have a more peaceful relaxing journey at Xochimilco.
Here’s what Lalo ( and I did on our short visit:
Mercado de Xochimilco - This is the main market of Xochimilco, and one of the best places to get started eating traditional Mexican food when you visit Xochimilco. At the entrance of the market you’ll find rows of vendors selling home-cooked foods. Don’t miss them, they are incredible delicious. Along with rare types of tlayudas, the highlight for me was the chicken tostada which blew me away.
Here’s the list of everything we ate, but really you can just walk around, see what looks good, and try it:
Tlacoyo - 12 MXN ($0.65) each
Tostada - 15 MXN ($0.81) each
Taco - 5 MXN ($0.27) each
Jamaica - 10 MXN ($0.54)
Carnitas - 20 MXN ($1.08) each
After eating, we walked over to the boat pier. And unfortunately we were running a little late on time and it was a race against time and daylight, but we made it to the pier. Lalo talked to the boat crews, and we finally arranged a boat. The cost was a little higher than what it would normally be for locals, but unfortunately, that’s what it came down to.
Boat hire - 850 MXN ($45.91)
Hope you enjoyed this tour of Xochimilco. The colorful boats are impressive to see, and it’s hard to believe you’re in Mexico City when you’re both at the relaxed Xochimilco Market, and gliding along the canals.
