Winfield, KS is the county seat of Cowley County. Winfield was founded in 1870. It was named for Rev. Winfield Scott, who promised to build the town a church in exchange for the naming rights.

Winfield, Kansas is located in Cowley County, Kansas and is home to the Walnut Valley Festival. It is a charming town about 50 miles SE of Wichita. It is definitely worth a day or weekend trip from Wichita, Topeka or even Kansas City. It is a modern day Mayberry of a town.
There is plenty to do including a variety of unique restaurants, food trucks, parks, hiking trails or shopping. The town hosts a variety of fun events including Diversity Jam, Bass and BBQ, a bass fishing tournament hosted at Winfield City Lake, Elrod's Cirque, a self-supported gravel bike course through the Flint Hills, an old fashioned carnival, farmers markets, vintage car cruises, parades and music. A Winfield to Arkansas City, Kansas drive (Cowley County) (4k USA)
Winfield, Kansas and Arkansas City (Ark City), Kansas are two Midwestern cities just 10 miles apart in southern Kansas about an hour south of Wichita. Both cities have a population of about 12,000 residents and are usually sports rivals. Ark City is known for the Last Run Auto Show (the biggest car show in Kansas) and Arkalalah (a yearly celebration with parades and a traveling amusement park).

Ghost Towns of Colorado, United States - Viksburg, Winfield
Ghost Mining Towns of Colorado, USA 2005 - Vicksburg, Winfield, Clear creek canyon, Rockdale-Silverdale
Colorado has over 1,500 ghost towns. Currently only about 640 remain. Due to incomplete records and legends that are now accepted as fact, no list will ever be complete. Ghost towns are predominantly of few reasons: mining towns, abandoned when the mines closed; many due to the devaluation of silver in 1893, mill towns that were abandoned when the mining towns closed, farming towns on the eastern plains deserted due to rural depopulation, coal towns abandoned when the coal, or need for it ran out, stage stops abandoned when the railroad came through, and the rail stops that were deserted when then railroad changed routes or abandoned the spurs. Some were resort towns which never brought in enough tourists. One or two were caused by the creation of reservoirs, or covered in mining tailings.

The Central Susquehanna Valley Transportation Project, is a planned 10.84-mile highway bypass along the U.S. Route 15 corridor near Shamokin Dam, Pennsylvania. When completed, it will carry US 15 and Pennsylvania Route 147 over varying stretches of its length. The project includes the construction of a new bridge over the West Branch of the Susquehanna River and 11.7 miles of new roadway, including a short freeway connection to PA 61. The first phase of the project, connecting U.S. Route 15 in Winfield, PA with PA Route 147 near Montandon, PA is expected to open in 2022.
