Top Attractions in Prague 2019, Charles Bridge, Prague Astronomical Clock, Prague, Old Town Square

Here's the video of my night visit to famous places in Prague which include Charles Bridge, Prague Astronomical Clock, Prague, Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square

According to Wiki -

Prague (/prɑːɡ/; Czech: Praha [ˈpraɦa] (About this soundlisten), German: Prag) is the capital and largest city in Czechia, the 14th largest city in the European Union[9] and the historical capital of Bohemia. Situated in the northwest of Czechia on the Vltava river, Prague is home to about 1.3 million people, while its metropolitan area is estimated to have a population of 2.6 million.[4] The city has a temperate climate, with warm summers and chilly winters.

Prague is a political, cultural and economic centre of central Europe complete with a rich history. Founded during the Romanesque and flourishing by the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque eras, Prague was the capital of the Kingdom of Bohemia and the main residence of several Holy Roman Emperors, most notably of Charles IV (r. 1346–1378).[10] It was an important city to the Habsburg Monarchy and its Austro-Hungarian Empire. The city played major roles in the Bohemian and Protestant Reformation, the Thirty Years' War and in 20th-century history as the capital of Czechoslovakia during both World Wars and the post-war Communist era.[11]

Prague is home to a number of well-known cultural attractions, many of which survived the violence and destruction of 20th-century Europe. Main attractions include Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, Old Town Square with the Prague astronomical clock, the Jewish Quarter, Petřín hill and Vyšehrad. Since 1992, the extensive historic centre of Prague has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.

The city has more than ten major museums, along with numerous theatres, galleries, cinemas and other historical exhibits. An extensive modern public transportation system connects the city. It is home to a wide range of public and private schools, including Charles University in Prague, the oldest university in Central Europe.[12]

Prague is classified as an Alpha − global city according to GaWC studies[13] and ranked sixth in the Tripadvisor world list of best destinations in 2016.[14] In 2019, the city was ranked as 69th most liveable city in the world,[15] second in the former Eastern Bloc to Berlin. Its rich history makes it a popular tourist destination and as of 2017, the city receives more than 8.5 million international visitors annually. Prague is the fourth most visited European city after London, Paris and Rome.[16]

Prague astronomical clock according to Wiki -

The Orloj is mounted on the southern wall of Old Town Hall in the Old Town Square. The clock mechanism itself has three main components: the astronomical dial, representing the position of the Sun and Moon in the sky and displaying various astronomical details; statues of various Catholic saints stand on either side of the clock; The Walk of the Apostles, a clockwork hourly show of figures of the Apostles and other moving sculptures—notably a figure of Death (represented by a skeleton) striking the time; and a calendar dial with medallions representing the months. According to local legend, the city will suffer if the clock is neglected and its good operation is placed in jeopardy; a ghost, mounted on the clock, was supposed to nod its head in confirmation. According to the legend, the only hope was represented by a boy born on New Year's night.[3]

Old Town Prague according to Wiki -

The Old Town of Prague (Czech: Staré Město pražské) is a medieval settlement of Prague, Czech Republic. It was separated from the outside by a semi-circular moat and wall, connected to the Vltava river at both of its ends. The moat is now covered up by the streets (from north to south-west) Revoluční, Na Příkopě, and Národní—which remain the official boundary of the cadastral community of Old Town. It is now part of Prague 1.

Notable places in the Old Town include Old Town Square and Astronomical Clock. The Old Town is surrounded by the New Town of Prague. Across the river Vltava connected by the Charles Bridge is the Lesser Town of Prague (Czech: Malá Strana). The former Jewish Town (Josefov) is located in the northwest corner of Old Town heading towards the Vltava.

Wenceslas Square Wiki -

Wenceslas Square (Czech: About this soundVáclavské náměstí (help·info) [ˈvaːtslafskɛː ˈnaːmɲɛstiː], colloquially Václavák [ˈvaːtslavaːk]) is one of the main city squares and the centre of the business and cultural communities in the New Town of Prague, Czech Republic. Many historical events occurred there, and it is a traditional setting for demonstrations, celebrations, and other public gatherings. The square is named after Saint Wenceslas, the patron saint of Bohemia.

old style open air sigtseeing cars in Prague, Czech Republic

We saw these types of old style, open sightseeing cars all over Prague while we were there in early July of 2017. Looks like they would have been good for sightseeing at low levels--a bus I think would provide better views, but these would be good for street level views and street scenes. We didn't take one. In hindsight, I wish we had. I think would have been interesting.

Czech Republic Prague in 4k Walk: Streets of New Town (Nové Město) quarter 🇨🇿 HDR ASMR

Today in our Czech Republic Prague in 4k Walk, we will move along the streets of the city quarter New Town. We will be accompanied by beautiful city views, the Vltava embankment, the Dancing House, and more.

The New Town (Czech: Nové Město) is a quarter in the city of Prague in the Czech Republic. New Town is the youngest and most prominent of the five independent (from the Middle Ages until 1784) towns that today comprise the historic center of modern Prague. New Town was founded in 1348 by Charles IV just outside the city walls to the east and south of the Old Town and encompassed an area of 7.5 km², about three times the size of the Old Town. The population of Prague in 1378 was well over 40,000, perhaps as much as twice that, making it the 4th most populated city north of the Alps and, by area, the 3rd largest city in Europe. Although New Town can trace its current layout to its construction in the 14th century, only a few churches and administrative buildings survive. There are many secular and educational buildings in New Town and especially magnificent gothic and baroque churches. These, nevertheless, are not the main drawing points for tourists. New Town's most famous landmark is Wenceslas Square, originally built as a horse market and now functions as a center of commerce and tourism. In the 15th century, the Novoměstská radnice, or New Town Hall, was the site of the first of the three defenestrations of Prague.
No doubt, in connection with his coronation as king under the Holy Roman Empire in 1346, Charles IV decided to found a new city in Prague. After he had achieved the city's independence within the church with the creation of the Archbishopric of Prague in 1344, the foundation of the New Town was intended further to enhance the status of the city, which was the new residence of the king. In addition, the housing problem within the city walls of Prague that had already been apparent under Charles IV's father, John of Luxembourg, was crying out for a solution. Many people, mostly poorer Czechs, had settled in the suburbs situated at the base of the city walls, and the banks of the Vltava were almost continuously built over.
What was original about Charles IV's action was that he chose, instead of creating an administratively dependent suburb, or an extension of the old town, as was the usual practice, to develop in the New Town an independent royal city with its own legal framework. Nevertheless, Charles planned a physical and legal union with the old part of town and decreed a joint administration in 1367; however, primarily due to the opposition of the two town councils, this failed and had to be abandoned as little as ten years later. After many rights and liberties had been granted to the inhabitants of the new city, the inhabitants of the old part of town, which was now enclosed by the New Town on all sides, likewise had their existing rights and liberties confirmed in writing. They were given the assurance of free access through both the northern gates of the New Town. Together with the establishment of the New Town, the king made further efforts to increase the town's significance. It was not only to be the new residence of the king and a center for scholarship - on 7 April 1348, Charles University was founded as the first university in central Europe - and for the arts, but it was intended to become an important economic center in Central Europe. To that end, a shift of Central European traffic routes and the creation of new roads was planned, making the Vltava navigable; and the plans had been carried out to some extent. The construction of the New Town was probably essentially complete as early as 1367, at the time of the short-lived union with the Old Town.

Vysočany is a part of Prague in the Prague 9 administrative district (partly in Prague 3), Czech Republic. It lies in the eastern part of Prague around the valley of the Rokytka River.
The first recorded information about Vysočany was from 1115 when Duke Vladislav I. gave Vysočany vineyards to the Kladruby monastery.
In 1896, Emil Kolben, a crucial Czech engineer and entrepreneur (former employee and friend of Thomas Edison), founded its factory, which later became famous as ČKD. This strongly influenced Vysočany as a heavily industrial district of Prague.
In 1902, the emperor Franz Joseph I of Austria awarded Vysočany the city title and the right to use its coat of arms.
1911 - Vysočany Town Hall was built
In 1922 - Vysočany became part of Prague.
In 1939 - after the Nazi invasion of Prague. The majority of industrial production had to be refocused on military production to support the Nazi-Germany war.
In 1942 - several families from Vysočany were involved in Operation Anthropoid (assassination of Reinhard Heydrich)
In 1945 - during the end of World War II, the district was heavily damaged during the Bombing of Prague. The targets were factories that were forced to produce military material.
In 1968 - after the invasion of Russian armies - there was a special convention of the Czechoslovak Communist Party held in Vysočany, which strongly condemned the invasion of the Soviet troops.
Since the 1990s - the new era after the Velvet Revolution saw Vysočany transforming from a heavily industrial district to a new modern residential part of Prague. A big part of construction is focused on the brown-fields after former factories.

Prague Travel Guide - ِAn European Glamorous Experience

Prague Travel Guide - European Glamorous Experience

Prague is the capital city and largest city in the Czech Republic. It is one of the largest cities of Central Europe and has served as the capital of the historic region of Bohemia for centuries. The city is famous for it's unique medieval architecture, the historical centre of Prague is inscribed in the World Heritage List. it's known for its Old Town Square, the heart of its historic core, with colorful baroque buildings, Gothic churches and the medieval Astronomical Clock, which gives an animated hourly show. Completed in 1402, pedestrian Charles Bridge is lined with statues of Catholic saints.

This magical city of bridges, cathedrals, gold-tipped towers and church domes, has been mirrored in the surface of the swan-filled Vltava River for more than ten centuries. Almost undamaged by WWII, Prague's medieval centre remains a wonderful mixture of cobbled lanes, walled courtyards, cathedrals and countless church spires all in the shadow of her majestic 9th century castle that looks eastward as the sun sets behind her. Prague is also a modern and vibrant city full of energy, music, cultural art, fine dining and special events catering to the independent traveler's thirst for adventure.

It is regarded by many as one of Europe's most charming, colorful and beautiful cities, Prague has become the most popular travel destination in Central Europe along with Vienna and Krakow. Millions of tourists visit the city every year.

Prague was founded in the later 9th century, and soon became the seat of Bohemian kings, some of whom ruled as emperors of the Holy Roman Empire. The city thrived under the rule of Charles IV, who ordered the building of the New Town in the 14th century - many of the city's most important attractions date back to that age. The city also went under Habsburg rule and became the capital of a province of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. In 1918, after World War I, the city became the capital of Czechoslovakia. After 1989 many foreigners, especially young people, moved to Prague. In 1992, its historic centre was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. In 1993, Czechoslovakia split into two countries and Prague became capital city of the new Czech Republic.

For purposes of this guide, the old district system is used. In this old system, Prague is divided into ten numbered districts: Praha 1 through to Praha 10. If you encounter a higher district number, a different system is being used. For example, Praha 13 is part of the old Praha 5 district. The advantage of the old system of ten districts is that it is used on street signs and house numbers throughout the city, so you can always easily determine the old system district you are located in.

Public transportation is very convenient in most of the areas visitors are likely to frequent. One key thing to note if you are staying outside of the the city centre is that public transport buses do not enter the historic districts (Old Town, New Town, Lower Town, etc.), so as to prevent air and noise pollution. One must transfer to a cleaner and quieter electric-powered tram or a metro before reaching historic areas.

Prague is renowned as a very walkable city. For those who enjoy seeing the old and new city by foot, one can easily walk from Wenceslas Square to the Old Town Square, or from the Old Town to Charles Bridge and the Castle District.

Havlíčkovy sady

----------
Havlíčkovy sady, Grébovka or Gröbovka, is an English-style park with a highly valuable collection of buildings. They were built from 1871 as a private, representative suburban residence of the family of the wealthy construction entrepreneur Moritz Gröbe, strictly according to his tastes, ideas and requirements.
A park inspired by the Italian Renaissance, with a fountain and water cascade, a pond, pavilions, statues and a charming man-made cave.

The park is an area of about 80 thousand square meters, designed in the form of a multi-level English garden. The main attraction is Moritz Grebe's villa, located on the top of a hill. The name of the former owner is associated with the popular name of this area - Grebovka.
From the highest hill of Grebovka there is a wonderful view of Prague .

After Grebe's death in 1891, all this splendor became the property of his heirs. They did not use the estate for housing. Funds for its maintenance were obtained through gardening. In addition, citizens walking in the park paid money for it. At the beginning of the 20th century, Grebovka was rented by the imperial family, in particular, Elizabeth of Habsburg and her husband lived there.
In 1906, Grebe's descendants sold the park to the municipal authorities, and it was opened to visitors under the name Havlíčkovy Sady.

Czech Republic, Prague 🇨🇿 - walking to Park Podviní #184

Today i am in Czech Republic for work and i decided to go for a walk in Prague 9. I started at my hotel and made my way over to a nice park located very close. It was fun to see the differences between my country and Prague. Enjoy!

Podviní Park is a public park in Prague in the Vysočany and Libeň districts. It was created in the years 1997–1998, realized according to the designs of Stanislav Špoula, Miroslav Pacner, Petr Hořejš and Libor Culka. The dominant feature of the park is a stone fortification resembling a lizard, which is ruled by a ten-meter-high trunk of an old oak tree with its roots turned upwards. The park is bordered on the south side by Rokytka, into which flows from the park an artificially created system of streams through which the park is interwoven and which flow from the lake below the fort. The streams with small bridges create a pleasant atmosphere of the whole park. The park is equipped with numerous benches and places to relax. There are several playgrounds, on the eastern edge of the park there is a rope center.

Prague 4k walking tour: from Karlín Square to Republic Square 🇨🇿 Czech Republic HDR ASMR

On today's Prague 4k walking tour, we will go from Karlin Square to Republic Square.

04:30 Sokolovská is an essential street in Prague. It connects Nové Město, more precisely the Florence area, with Karlín, Libní, and Vysočany.
The street was founded in 1817 under the name Hlavní, as it was the main road of the newly established Karlín. In 1841 it was renamed Královská in honor of the coronation procession, which passed through the street on the occasion of the coronation of the Austrian Emperor Ferdinand I. Dobrotivý by the Czech King in 1836. In 1845, until then, bearing the name Liberecká silnice. In 1948, the whole street was given the current name Sokolovská in honor of the Ukrainian town of Sokolovo, where one of the battles of World War II took place in 1943, in which a Czechoslovak unit also took part.

11:30 Na Poříčí is a street in the New Town in Prague, which starts at Náměstí Republiky and ends at Ke Štvanici Street. Havlíčkova and Na Florenci streets flow into it from the south, and Zlatnická, Biskupská, and Těšnov streets from the north. A two-way tram line runs down the street.
The street is one of the oldest roads connecting Prague with the eastern suburbs, the road to Vysočany and Hloubětín. Its name is local, it is derived from the Vltava coast and the medieval settlement Poříčí situated on it, about which there is the first written record from the year 993. Part of the land belonged to Špitálsko. Slaměná Street, and the second part was called Šilinkova after the family of the New Town mayor František Šilink. From the second half of the 19th century, the street was called Poříčská, and since 1894, it has had the current name Na Poříčí, colloquially called Poříč.

20:50 Republic Square (Náměstí Republiky) is a city square in Prague, Czech Republic, lying at the Old Town and New Town boundary. These significant buildings are on the square or near the vicinity: Kotva Department Store, Municipal House, Powder Tower, Czech National Bank, and Palladium shopping mall. The square leads Na příkopě street, the most expensive street among all states of the V4, connecting it with Wenceslas Square.

I take you to see some historical places in Prague. From Charles Bridge (Karluv Most) to Prague Castle on the hill and back to the river Moldau.

Prague (Praha) walk 4k HDR Vinohrady, Vinohradska street, Vinohradský Pavilion 🇨🇿 Czech Republic

Today in our Prague 4K walk, we are in the Vinohrady district on one of the most important streets in Praha. I will show you the old Vinohradsky pavilion and many beautiful buildings.

03:15 Vinohradská street in Prague is one of the important streets of the city. It leads from the border of Nové Město from the crossroads of the western branch of the southwestern main road from the territory of the wine-growing cadastral area of vineyards, žižkov, and a narrow house at the corners, The length of the street is about 4 km. Today's street name comes from the Vinohrady district, named after the many vineyards that were located on its territory.

07:00 Vinohradský Pavilion.
One of the landmarks of Prague's Vinohrady district. The interior design and art exhibition and sales center is located in a listed former market building. Top-quality foreign and Czech design is offered in this spectacular setting. The pavilion is the holder of the prestigious Store of the Year from Czech Grand Design 2013.
The first marketplace in Královské Vinohrady (the Royal Vineyards) originated in Tyl Square in 1879. With the development of Vinohrady, a marketplace in present-day Londýnská and Rumunská Streets accrued and in 1897, another large marketplace was created in Jiřího z Poděbrad Square where there also was a town weighing machine and where trade with straw and hey was transferred. Due to the fast development of Vinohrady and an example of the Old Town (Staré Město), the Vinohrady councilors decided to build a modern marketplace. They bought land by the then Chocholouškova Street (currently Slezská) and a local factory producing mill machinery; the factory hall was converted by the town architect Antonín Turek into a modern marketplace that was ceremonially opened in 1903. The main façade faced the present Vinohradská Boulevard, where there were wide stairs with two flights and a balustrade rail, while from the other side, it was entered directly. The interior reminded me of a three-aisled basilica. The space was divided by two rows of steel lattice masts that bore the roof structure.
The upraised part of the central aisle is glazed from both sides. On the façade towards the Vinohradská Boulevard, colorful towers are on both sides of the main hall, and their upper parts protrude above the roof level. The towers are covered with a helmet-like roof finished with a spike and a finial. The building envelope is bricked and richly decorated with stucco and stone ornamental details and figurative sculptures. The façade has a rich stucco adornment, the style of which is pseudo-classical. The basement had two stories with a cellar space and walk-in refrigerators, whose temperature was controlled by air conditioning with the engine room. 98 stalls were set up in the market hall interior, selling mainly meat and meat products, poultry, game, butter, eggs, fruit, and vegetables. Market women from the Tyl Square, who were moved here, could not get used to a new place of work for a long time, and at the beginning, they would return to their original workplace. The Vinohrady market hall (Vinohradská tržnice) served its purpose up to the beginning of the 80s of the 20th century.

Královské Vinohrady (Royal Vineyards) is a cadastral district in Prague. It is so named because it was once covered in vineyards dating from the 14th century. Vinohrady lies in the municipal and administrative districts of Prague 2 (west part), Prague 3 (north-east part) and Prague 10 (south-east part), minor parts also of Prague 1 (Prague State Opera and Federal Assembly of Czechoslovakia) and Prague 4 (near Nusle).
Between 1788–1867 it was called Viničné Hory (Vineyard Mountains). From 1867 to 1968, it was called Královské Vinohrady (Royal Vineyards). In 1875, Královské Vinohrady was divided into two parts, Královské Vinohrady I and Královské Vinohrady II, the part I was renamed to Žižkov and the part II to Královské Vinohrady in 1877. In 1922 Královské Vinohrady was made part of Prague as district XII. In 1949, the west part was conjoined with Prague 2, and the east part remained a separate district Prague 12. In 1960, where the Prague division was reduced from 16 to 10 administrative districts, the north part of Prague 12 was conjoined with Žižkov into Prague 3, and the south part was joined to Prague 10. Local patriots say that the real reason was that Královské Vinohrady was known as a bourgeois district and thus politically unreliable for the then-ruling Communist Party of Czechoslovakia.
