MASONIC activities in Paežeriai’ Manor in Vilkaviškis, Lithuania 🇱🇹
Visiting a pure gem in the southwest of Lithuania - Paežeriai’ manor.
Paežeriai’ Manor is located in the southwest part of Lithuania, Municipality of Vilkaviškis, 80 kms from Kaunas and 160 kms from Vilnius.
Neoclassical style building was projected in 1795 by an architect of Polish-Lithuanian of German descent Martin Knackfus.
Many of his projects can be found in the breathtaking old town of capital of Lithuania – Vilnius.
Paežeriai’ manor was fond of Mason movement and one of the most iconic place in the region.
Not only the music of the famous European composers would be performed there.. Haydn, Chopin, etc.
The ideas and talks in the manor were as actual as they were as between any of the highly educated Europeans of that time.
The manor was essential treasury of the ideas after the collapse of the commonwealth country of Poland and Lithuania in 1795.
It belonged to the family of Simonas Zabiela, who was an active participant of the actions against the main enemy – Russia empire.
The manor saw many ups and downs and was renovated a number of times in XX century.
The area of the park covers 12 hectares and has an access to the lake.
An impressive part of the manor is neogothic style 12 meter height Belvedere tower, which is open for visitors as well.

Jewish Heritage tour to Kalvarija
For those who are searching authentic atmosphere of a small pre-war town in Lithuania, Kalvarija is a hidden gem. Established in the 17th century, the locals until nowadays sometimes use the old name of it – Trobiai - instead of modern Kalvarija.
Kalvarija is located 10 minutes’ drive from the border with Poland. During the years 1795-1807, this town belonged to Prussia and this fact had a great influence on a local Jewish Community. The achievements of the German Jews in science and culture made a big impression on the Jews of Kalvarija. Some of them began to study, along with their religious studies, Russian and German. They Germanized their Yiddish, which was well-known as Kalvarische Deutch. The German culture on one hand and the poverty on the other led to the emigration of many. Hundreds of young Jews left their homes, and in Kalvarija there were specialists who made their living by smuggling emigrants through Germany, as this was cheaper and less complicated.
