Ever wondered what the oldest cities in the Netherlands look like? Venlo is a Dutch city located in the far southeastern part, just by the Dutch-German border in the province of Limburg.
It was my first time visiting the region, and of course, exploring the city of Venlo. Thankfully, we got invited by @visitvenlo.nl where they prepared a nice program for us via an Instameet to fully enjoy and appreciate the highlights of Venlo in one day.

One day exploring Venlo | Netherlands travel vlog series
Amazing city, exploring Venlo on my sixth day in the Netherlands. I travel I travel from Eindhoven to Venlo, in the east of the country. I start my walking tour in a small marina by the Meuse River and a statue to Neptune. My first stop was the Stadhuis or city hall, but due to the amount of noise from the workmen outside, I was unable to film there, opting instead to walk towards Saint Martin’s Church. The church was closed but I did find another old house opposite, dating from 1611, which was architecturally incredibly.
I stopped at a cafe for a lemon flavoured, alcohol free, light beer, then headed down the back streets to find some street art and a row of statues, all depicting local people who have made a name for themselves. They were Sef Cornet, Frans Boemans, Geer van de Veer and Lambert Francken. The final one was of Anton Gérard van den Akker, who was given the name of Morocco, because he used to shout loudly the word Maroque, due to an illness he had contracted whilst in North Africa serving in the French Foreign Legion. I made my way to end the video at the Limburg Museum, which I didn’t visit, as I explain in the video. I had such fun on my walking tour around Venlo, such an interesting place, to which I’m sure to return again.
