Road Trip Through America’s LAST FRONTIER (12 Days)
Alaska is the epitome of outdoor adventures. Combine that with an RV, the extra daylight hours during the Summer's midnight sun, a helicopter, seaplane, glaciers and some bears, and you have one heck of a bucket list vacation.
We road-tripped across the last frontier in an RV from Cruise America for 2 weeks and started our adventure with a Knik Glacier Helicopter Tour. We drove from Anchorage to Valdez, up and over the incredibly gorgeous Denali Highway into Denali National Park, and then back down again to Homer and Seward on the Kenai Peninsula for some gold panning, a bear viewing flight, and a boat trip in Resurrection Bay.

There are many pros and cons to living in a city in Ecuador, some exactly like we find in the USA and some that are slightly more particular to cities that we have visited in Latin America. We love the walkability, the culture, the food, and the excitement and challenge of living in a country where English is not the first language. And the the cost of living in Ecuador is great, too. But life in South America, as with most travels, will be easier if you leave your expectations at home and travel with an open mind.

How to Get to the Galapagos: Flying from Mainland Ecuador to the Galápagos Islands
The Galapagos Islands are a UNESCO world-heritage site, and one of the best places in the world to see wildlife. Located about 1000km off continental Ecuador, they take some time to get to!
You must first make your way to either Quito or Guayaquil to be able to catch a LATAM Airlines or Avianca flight to the airports on the Galapagos. And there are also a few extra inspections you need to go through and fees you need to pay to get there. Here's our experience and the steps we followed to get to the Galapagos.

Cumbaya & the Tumbaco Valley - Where the Expats Live in Ecuador
Expat living in Ecuador has become more and more popular over the last decade. Americans looking for a beautiful and cheaper place to retire come to Ecuador to enjoy life. One of the most popular places for an expat to live in Ecuador is Cumbaya - located in the Tumbaco valley just outside of Quito proper. It's away from the hustle and bustle of Quito. The altitude is lower and it's usually 2-5 degrees Celsius warmer. The main square, Parque de Cumbaya, is a beautiful place to sit and enjoy Ecuador's amazing weather. A lot of Ecuador's upper class live in Cumbaya and commute to Quito everyday for their work, but it also has some authentic Ecuador charm, especially along the main street.
Further east from Quito is Tumbaco, another great option for people looking to live close to Quito, but not in the city. It's even warmer in Tumbaco, with pretty much ideal growing temperatures, which means a lot of amazing locally grown fruits and vegetables. It also feels a bit more Ecuadorian, less expat, more middle class.
Overlooking the entire Tumbaco valley is Ilalo, an extinct volcano. Ilalo volcano is my view. I see it everyday and it always seems to look different. In this video I decide to ride my motorcycle up Ilalo, along a road that I've always wondered about, to see if I can get an amazing view of Cumbaya and the valley. I don't really know the way, but the journey will be awesome.

You'll find the best traditional dishes that you can't miss while in Ecuador. I recommend burger joints, pizza places, authentic Chinese food, Vietnamese food, bakeries, ice cream shops, chocolate, coffee, breakfast, brunch, lunch, and more!
