INTRODUCTION
Charsadda is a historical town in the Pakhtoonkhwa province of Pakistan. In 6th century BC it was called Pushkalavati which was the capital and center of Ghandara kingdom.
Charsadda is located in Peshawar valley and situated at a distance of about 30 kilometers from the provincial capital. It is surrounded by Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Malakand and Muhmand Districts. Its area is 996 square kilometers and its current population is estimated to be 2 million. Geographically it is divided into two regions, Hashtnagar and Do-aba.
It has fertile land and its beauty is enhanced by River Swat and River Kabul. People of Charsadda are famous for hospitality and Bravery. People are highly religious and politically conscious. It is also famous for Hand-made Chappal and cloth (kadhar)
The Soil of Charsadda has given birth to great personalities like Abdul Ghafar khan (Bacha khan), Maulana Shamsul Haq Afghani, Haji sahib Turangzai, Haji Muhammad Amin, Hayat Khan Sherpao, Mulana Hasan jan, Muhammad Azam Azam, Abdul Ali khan and Ghani khan who are still remembered in the History.
Government Postgraduate College Charsadda was established in 1960 initially for intermediate classes in the small building of Government Primary School of Babara. Its own building was constructed in 1963. The college was upgraded to the level of degree college in 1971 and postgraduate college in 1998. 4-years BS program was introduced in the college in 2012 and the conventional programs like BA/ BSc and MA/ MSc were discontinued. Currently it offers admissions in FA/ FSC and 16 disciplines in BS. It has more than 3000 students and more than 90 faculty members. The college has now become a mini university providing by having 16 BS disciplines.
The college is affiliated to the Board of Intermediate & Secondary Education Peshawar for intermediate classes and Bacha Khan University Charsadda for BS.
