Trento, Italy: Things to Do - What, How and Why to visit Trent (4K)

If you are planning to visit #Trent (#Trento), in Italy, here you’ll find the best tips on things to do in the city, with a sightseeing map on the most relevant points of interest to enjoy, so you can easily imagine and organise your trip: WHAT to see, HOW to plan your visit, and WHY to discover Trent city.

In this video:
WHAT are the major attractions that you can't go home without having seen, including Buonconsiglio Castle, the Cathedral of Saint Vigilius, Palazzo Pretorio, Palazzo delle Albere and MUSE, the museum of science and natural history.
- Then, I’ll describe to you HOW to follow a daily-tour to better visit the city, with a clear map of Trent city and tips for nearby attractions.
Finally, we’ll discover WHY to visit Trent city, with his rich historic city center.

WHAT
Before the Romans, Trent was a Celtic village. It was conquered by the Romans in the late 1st century BC. Romans gave their settlement the name Tridentum as a tribute to the Roman god Neptune. (Actually, the origin of the name is not clear, it could refer to 3 small hills that rise around Trento, called Doss.) Tridentum became an important stop on the Roman road that led from Verona to Innsbruck. In the 16th century, the city was the location of the famous “Council of Trent”. Formerly part of Austria-Hungary empire, it was annexed by Italy in 1919.
With almost 120,000 inhabitants, Trento is one of the largest city.
What to see:
- Duomo (Cathedral of Saint Vigilius) is a Gothic cathedral of the twelfth century, built on top of a late-Roman basilica.
- Palazzo Pretorio, next to the Duomo, dates back to the 12th century, with a bell tower.
- Buonconsiglio Castle includes a museum and the remarkable Torre dell'Aquila.
- Palazzo delle Albere is a Renaissance villa next to the Adige river built around 1550, and now host a modern art museum.
- MUSE is the museum of science and natural history, planned by Renzo Piano and opened in 2013.

WHY
Trento why go here? Thy to visit this city?
As you have seen, the city offers a rich historical heritage, in a comfortable city setting and a panoramic alpine landscape.
But Trento offers a lot of attractions around the city:
Arriving in Trento by car, you will notice vineyards as far as the eye can see; so why don’t visit one of them?
In 40 minutes you can be in Garda lake and in just over an hour you can visit Brenta Dolomites and the village of Madonna di Campiglio (watch my videos on both of them)

Here a nice trip in the mountains close to Trent:

Inside Trento, Italy, at the Foothills of the Dolomites

The Italian Alps: We visit scenic Trento, Italy, which sits in the Adige valley, with the sky-scraping Dolomite Mountains as its backdrop. This Alpine city is often overshadowed by its northern neighbor of Bolzano, but Trento is definitely worth a stop. Here’s why:

On our visit, we step into its Roman past (when it was called Tridentum), see the site of the Council and historical events from the 16th century at the Duomo, take a cable car up to the small village of Sardagna, and more! Oh, and we learn lots of fun facts at a free Alpine museum—did you know that 27% of the Alps are in Italy?!

We loved our time in Trento! Let us know if you’ve been to Trento or if you would like to go!

Trento Cathedral, featuring a rose window and a baroque chapel, sits on Piazza Duomo. Also on the square is Casa Cazuffi-Rella, a Renaissance building with a frescoed facade. Southwest, MUSE is a science and natural history museum with high-tech exhibits.

The capital of Trentino is quietly confident, liberal and easy to like. Bicycles glide along spotless streets fanning out from the atmospheric, intimate Piazza del Duomo, students clink spritzes by Renaissance fountains and a dozen historical eras intermingle seamlessly among stone castles, shady porticoes and the city's signature medieval frescoes. While there's no doubt you're in Italy, Trento does have its share of Austrian influence: apple strudel is ubiquitous and beer halls not uncommon. Set in a wide glacial valley guarded by the crenellated peaks of the Brenta Dolomites, amid a patchwork of vineyards and apple orchards, Trento is a perfect jumping-off point for hiking, skiing or wine tasting. And road cycling is huge: 400km of paved cycling paths fan out from here. Those with an interest in early-modern history will also find Trento fascinating: the Council of Trent convened here in the 16th century, during the tumultuous years of the Counter-Reformation, dishing out far-reaching condemnations to uppity Protestants.
