Napier, a coastal city on New Zealand's North Island, is set amid the renowned wine-producing region of Hawke's Bay. Rebuilt after a 1931 earthquake, the city is known for art deco landmarks like the zigzag-patterned Daily Telegraph Building. Along the tree-lined waterfront promenade the Marine Parade, the Pania of the Reef statue depicting a Maori maiden, is a symbol of the city.Other bayfront attractions include MTG Hawke's Bay, a complex encompassing a performing-arts theatre, art gallery and a museum with exhibits on local Maori heritage and the 1931 earthquake. At the National Aquarium, sea life encounters include swimming with sharks. South of Napier, 399m-high Te Mata Peak offers hiking trails and panoramic views. To the east is Cape Kidnappers headland, which shelters massive Gannet seabirds. The city of Taradale is home to many of the region’s most venerable vineyards, which produce popular red varietals like Cabernet Sauvignon.
Weather and Events:
Peak travel to the city, and nearby wineries and hiking trails, is Dec–Apr, when temperatures are generally mild. The temperate maritime climate also makes for mild winters (Jun–Aug). The Tremains Art Deco Weekend (Feb) celebrates the city's architectural heritage with 1920s- and 1930s-themed events. The Food and Wine Classic Hawke's Bay is a series of culinary events centred on Hawke's Bay's famous wines, staged in both summer (Nov) and winter (Jun).

Hawke's Bay is one of our favourite regions of New Zealand and we absolutely love coming here for a weekend every now and then. We've been to Hawke's Bay four times, explored so many cities, parks and attractions, and filmed more than 10 travel videos about this part of New Zealand's North Island. And here we are again with a new travel vlog: Top things to do in Hawke's Bay.
Here at theStyleJungle, we love travelling and sharing our experience to inspire you to visit some of the beautiful destinations around New Zealand. In this vlog, we are showing you around Hawke's Bay and giving you ideas on how you can spend a couple of days there. New Zealand - Exploring Napier & The Hawkes Bay region
New Zealand is a wonderful holiday playground for the whole family – as we were about to find out. Our first stop on the country’s North island was the stunning Hawkes Bay region and the lovely town of Napier. This rather funky city was destroyed by a huge earthquake in 1931 and totally rebuilt in the unique art deco style of the 1920’s and 30’s. Nearby attractions included the National Aquarium of New Zealand, an apple orchard and the Amazing Maze 'n Maize

Take a relaxing walk around the Bluff Hill Lookout. Looking out over Hawkes Bay, The Pacific Ocean. You can see a great view of Napier Port.
This spot was the location of a World War 2 coastal defense gun emplacement.
Located at the top of Bluff Hill, 50 Lighthouse Road, Napier, New Zealand.

Hawke's Bay (Māori: Heretaunga) is a region of New Zealand. Hawke's Bay is recognised on the world stage for its award-winning wines. The regional council sits in both the cities of Napier and Hastings.
The region is served by a variety of radio stations with Classic Hits 89.5 Bay City Radio, and Newstalk ZB being the most popular local stations. Hawke's Bay also has its own TV station, TVHB, which provides a mix of news and information programmes hosted by local personalities.
Hawke's Bay produces some of New Zealand's finest wines and once a year Harvest Hawke's Bay celebrates the fact by offering a three day wine and food festival. This event attracts many thousands.[citation needed]
Napier is home to the annual Mission Concert held early each year. The event held at the Mission Estate Winery in Taradale has attracted big names over the year's including Kenny Rogers, Shirley Bassey, Rod Stewart, The B-52's, Belinda Carlisle, Ray Charles, and Eric Clapton. Each concert is attended by around 25,000 people. The 2009 concert attraction was to be Lionel Ritchie, but the concert was cancelled because of rain.
