MOUNT TAMALPAIS STATE PARK
801 Panoramic Highway
Mill Valley, California 94941

Just north of San Francisco's Golden Gate is Mount Tamalpais. It has redwood groves and oak woodlands with a spectacular view from the 2,571-foot peak.

On a clear day, visitors can see the Farallon Islands 25 miles out to sea, the Marin County hills, San Francisco and the bay, hills and cities of the East Bay, and Mount Diablo. On rare occasions, the Sierra Nevada's snow-covered mountains can be seen 150 miles away.

Coastal Miwok Indians lived in the area for thousands of years before Europeans arrived. In 1770, two explorers named the mountain La Sierra de Nuestro Padre de San Francisco, which was later changed to the Miwok word Tamalpais.

With the Gold Rush of 1849, San Francisco grew and more people began to use Mount Tamalpais for recreation. Trails were developed and a wagon road was built. Later, a railway was completed and became known as The Crookedest Railroad in the World. It was abandoned in 1930 after a wildfire damaged the line.

Steep Ravine Cabins, Mt Tamalpais State Park

A quick walkthrough of cabin 8 (San Andreas) at Steep Ravine Campground in Mount Tamalpais State Park. I've always wanted to stay at one of these rustic coastal cabins just south of Stinson Beach, but wasn't able to find much information online about what they were like inside, so here's a quick video.

Here's a great overview of Steep Ravine, including a list of my favorite cabins and campgrounds, what to bring for your first trip, how to secure a campsite/cabin reservation, and lots more!

Mt. Tamalpais Amphitheatre

The Sidney B. Cushing Memorial Amphitheatre is located in Mt. Tamalpais just north of San Francisco. The stone seating was put in place in 1933.
In 1967 the amphitheatre played host to what is generally considered the first outdoor rock festival, the Fantasy Fair and Magic Mountain Festival on June 10 and 11, 1967. Over 36,000 people attended the fest featuring top acts from the time such as The Doors, Byrds, Jefferson Airplane, Canned Heat, Country Joe and a host of others.
Today the site is used for an annual play in the spring.

Mount Tamalpais State Park | Dipsea to Steep Ravine Trail Loop | Hiking

Dipsea Trail to Steep Ravine Trail Loop from Pantoll Campgrounds in Mount Tamlpais California State Park. Many trails connecting, but this one is 4.5 mile hike and 1000ft elevation. We started right, which went down into the forest first. Great views, walk in the forest, lots of stairs to climb, and a ladder too.

Golden Hour Views on Mt. Tamalpais

This was a difficult day to film and photograph in during the hike and photowalk! The light was very harsh at times and also cloudy while also kind of foggy and hazy too. I still thought I'd share. Mt. Tamalpais is a neat area with lots of hikes with great views of San Francisco, the bay, and the ocean. We did the East Peak trail via Matt Davis to Rock Spring loop. It's a great hike and fun day trip / getaway if you live in the Bay Area.

Let me know what you think and if there are things you would like to see included!
