FAQs
========================================
Q: How long did it take?
A: My trip was 14 days.
Q: Which airport should I arrive at?
A: Having travelled from the other side of the globe, I arrived at Taoyuan International Airport in Taipei. If travelling from Australia or Asia, there may be connecting flights to Kaohsiung International Airport on the south-west coast of Taiwan.
Q: How much did it cost?
A: You can see a cost breakdown of my trip at 12:37
Q: How did you pay for things or get local currency?
A: I just take money out from an ATM using my debit card. It has a small international transaction fee, but it’s minuscule if you only do it once or twice. You may be able to order foreign currency at better rates, but it’s not something I personally bothered with.
Q: Is it easy to find petrol stations?
A: Yes, you'll find one pretty much everywhere, including remote areas in the mountains! I always went with caution and ensured I had a full tank before entering remote areas, however to my shock, there were petrol stations, and even 7 Eleven stores in remote mountains! Just to be safe, I would highly recommend getting a full tank of petrol before going to the mountains.
Q: Which month did you go?
A: I visited mid November to early December and spent 14 days there.

15 Secrets & Things to do in Tainan, Taiwan
This is my ultimate travel guide for Tainan, Taiwan including 15 best things to do and best places to visit which I carefully selected, like Fort Zeelandia, Du Xiao Yue for its epic Dandan noodles, Chun Sui Tang - the inventor of bubble tea, mega gachapon machine and the eating bizarre chicken butts. Subscribe to my channel ► for weekly videos!
Download my FREE Tainan Guide
(including maps, photos and secret tips)
Sadly, #Tainan is not popular with foreign tourists even though it is the oldest city in #Taiwan. Tainan became a top priority on my bucket list for the simple reason that it was found by the Dutch in 1624. The city is home to Dutch VOC fortresses Zeelandia and Provintia which were massive fortifications for its time. I visited Tainan to find the remnants of my ancestors since I am Dutch myself.
Tainan is known by the Taiwanese as the food mecca of the country due to its many locally grown produce, from epic mango shaved ice desserts to Chun Sui Tang - the original restaurant where bubble tea was invented but also its delicious beef noodle bowls called dandan noodles at Du Xiao Yue.
My first stop was the Dutch Fort Provintia where the Dutch VOC's (Dutch East India Company) administrative heart of Taiwan was located. I was blown away to learn that the foundation of all these Dutch forts was made with a mortar recipe containing crushed oyster shells, sugar and sticky rice since cement was hard to come by on the island.
In the evening I went for dinner on the ancient Shennon street which is gorgeous during the evening for its small historic shops and cozy atmosphere. At a local street restaurant I went all out and tried their bizarre local delicacy; grilled chicken butts. One place where you should definitely eat is Du Xiao Yue, the oldest noodle shop in Taiwan founded in 1895 and order the Dandan noodles! Alternatively, try their milk fish, rice eel and incredible fried shrimp rolls. Let's not forget about the delicious beef soup and beef tongue and Win Chang restaurant..
The highlight of my visit was Fort Zeelandia, a massive Dutch VOC fortress on the Anping peninsula which the Dutch held onto until 1662 when the Ming Dynasty sent Koxinga to take over Formosa (Taiwan's original name) and banish the Dutch. Fort Zeelandia showcases a huge collection of Dutch artifacts from that time period. If you want even more Dutch history, check out the Merchant House for many ancient Dutch maps and VOC ship scale models, additionally visit the incredible treehouse, a warehouse completely engulfed by nature.
My favorite object was the scale model of Fort Zeelandia, the sheer size was absolutely mindboggling. The Dutch were besieged by Koxinga for 9 months which left them with no other option than to surrender after which Taiwan became Chinese territory and the Dutch retreated back to Batavia in Indonesia, nowadays known as Jakarta.
Tainan doesn't really have a big nightlife, for good parties you'll have to go to either Taipei or Kaohsiung but luckily Tainan has one major nightclub called MUSE Tainan where I had a great time drinking and socializing with the locals. For just 700 NT ($25 USD) it was an all-you-can-drink party. It was a crazy experience seeing not many people at the bar even with it being an all-you-can-drink event, I guess the Taiwanese know their limits very well.
In conclusion, I had a fantastic time in Tainan and I will consider visiting Tainan in the near future to see what other great places this magical city has to offer so I can create another #TravelGuide for you guys!

24 HOURS in TAITUNG | Taitung, Taiwan
I continued my trip down the east side of Taiwan to Taitung. It's a small town but there is a lot of interesting things to check out.
The Seashore Park is beautiful. The lantern around the Railway Art Village are cute. The Beinan Culture Park is super interesting.
I definitely think Taitung is a great place to stop by if travelling Taiwan.
Much love and happy travels

Trip to Taitung, Taiwan 台灣台東旅行
Today I am going on a trip to Taitung, Taiwan with my family. I took the Business class on the Tze-Chiang Ltd. Express train (EMU3000) to Taitung. We stayed in Chihshang Township on the first day. Tofu skin is one of the popular and must-try foods in Chihshang. we also tried many of the popular foods in Chihshang. Cycling on Mr Brown Avenue is another must-do activity in Chihshang. The scene of Kaneshiro Takeshi under a tree at Mr Brown Avenue is a very popular Eva air advertisement. This Avenue is now a popular tourist attraction. Hope you enjoy my video and please subscribe.

Doulan Surf Shop, beside coastal Highway 11 in the village of Dulan, provides surfing lessons, board sales and rentals, sales of other surfing gear, board repair, and surf tour services. It is run by a friendly husband-and-wife team, both refugees from big city life. He is originally from Taipei, and “used to be very white-skinned,” and she is a local Taitung indigenous lass who decided to get back to her roots after a spell in the skies as a flight attendant.

Dulan Big Yard Barbecue is located beside the coastal highway diagonally across from the Dulan Sugar Factory complex. Entering through the tall gate, you see that you’ve indeed entered a very “big yard.” A wooden open-faced hut that looks like a crab shack you might come across by a Louisiana bayou stands amidst the trees. Order at the counter, then await delivery at one of the alfresco tables. The menu is extensive, displaying much that will make both surf-lovers and turf-lovers happy. Note that it is the seafood selections that most excite the palates of most Asian diners. There are surf/turf options that will be more familiar to BBQ aficionados from Western lands.

Jingang (“King Kong”) Boulevard is accessed by taking County Road 13, which starts just north of the coastal highway’s 85km marker. The “boulevard” is a minor road situated between the ocean and the coastal mountains, one of which, Mt. Jingang, is said to resemble the head of a gorilla (hence the name of the road). On both sides of the road are terraced rice fields. Although in recent years this road has become quite popular with Instagrammers and bicyclists, it remains a quiet spot most of the time and you’ll likely enjoy the pristine scenery all by yourself, with the possible exception of a friendly rice farmer or two out in the fields.
Duli Beach is located on a small secluded bay southeast of Duli village. Surfers come here to catch the waves, light bonfires, and chill out under the star-filled night sky. It is also attracting increasing numbers of Instagrammers because of a visual effect that has become known in Chinese as “Sky Mirror.” During low tides in daylight hours the wet, flat beach has crystal-clear reflections of blue sky, white clouds, and silhouettes of frolicking people, creating perfect photo ops. One hour before or after the lowest tide is the ideal time for capturing this effect.
O’nok Studio and Café, located on Highway 11 (85km marker), is an establishment where you can witness how traditional Amis tribal culture is preserved in today’s modern world. The wood and stucco building was created by an Amis couple on a mission to share their tribe’s legacy. For the past ten years the couple has been serving homemade food and offering DIY activities inside their café/studio. The freshly baked cakes and desserts are a true delight.

Shinlong Garden is a true off-the-beaten-path location that requires a 15-minute drive on a narrow, winding road that starts just south of the coastal highway’s 74km marker. Once there you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of Changbin’s beautiful coastline. There is a main building with a dining area inside and a terrace overlooking the ocean. From the building, an elevated wood-plank path leads to a pavilion, and further on you’ll come to a round wooden deck with a star dragon sculpture, a great place to take photos.
