Our New Favorite Place in Mexico - San Cristóbal de las Casas
San Cristóbal de las Casas is our new favorite city in all of Mexico! Getting stuck here after our trouble leaving the country turned out to be one of the best things to happen to us in Mexico. Something we've been addressing here are medical issues I've been having the past few months. If you're planning your own travels we highly recommend looking into SafetyWing for your own travel insurance:
We start off exploring San Cristóbal de las Casas from the iconic San Cristóbalito Church, which gives incredible views of the city of San Cristóbal. Then we visit the Zocala de San Cristóbal de las Casas, which a main square that is lined with beautiful shops, delicious cafes, and of course another gorgeous church. By mid morning, we are ready for some snacks, so it's time to check out the Mercado Dulces y Artesanias (sweet and crafts market). We honestly don't know what candies and snacks we tried from here, but it was quite the experience!!
San Cristóbal de las Casas has a handful of pedestrian-only streets that make an awesome spot to stroll around and take in the architecture and feeling of the city while shopping or sipping on a coffee. Avenida 20 de la Noviembre became one of our favourite pedestrian-only streets in San Cristóbal. No matter the time or day, this street is lively and has so much to look at. At one end of the avenue we arrive to the Artisan Market where people from Chiapas make beautiful artesian clothes, jewelery, and other gorgeous souvenirs. If we didn't travel full-time, we would have bought so many things here to bring back to Canada!
As if we hadn't seen enough markets, our next stop was the Municipal Market. This stop totally surprised us! It was such an overwhelm on the senses, and it turns out this is not the place for lunch despite our best effort to find a place to eat!
After walking around San Cristóbal we decided to go on an incredible day tour to the top attraction in the state of Chiapas, Sumidero Canyon. This canyon captures just how beautiful Chiapas is, and was one of our favourite things to do in Chiapas. We drove ourselves to Sumidero Canyon because we have a car, but most people organize this day trip from San Cristóbal de las Casas which includes all the transportation.
There are so many things to do in San Cristóbal de las Casas, as well as the whole state of Chiapas, and we tried to fit as many as possible in this video! We truly loved our time in this city in Southern Mexico, and could not have asked for a better place to wait for Evie's vaccinations to be fully active in her system so we can leave Mexico .
In case you missed last week's video where we share how we messed up our travels and couldn't leave the country, you can check it out here:

Our FAVORITE beach town in Mexico that you've NEVER heard of
Located in the heart of the Mayan Riviera, Puerto Morelos QUICKLY became our favorite beach town in Mexico!
►Subscribe to our channel!
Puerto Morelos is in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, located halfway between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen. On the shores of the Caribbean Sea, the waters and beach of Puerto Morelos are some of the prettiest we’ve seen!
This quaint little beach town is kicking off our 2019 Mexico travel vlog and we can’t wait to explore this town and surrounding area even more! The town itself is pretty small, one of the smallest beach towns we’ve been to throughout our Mexico travels. But there is a huge coral reef right off shore, quite a few great restaurants to try, and some of the best snorkeling and diving in the Yucatan Peninsula. Needless to say, I think we’ll stay plenty busy here.
If that isn’t enough, with the town’s close proximity to Cancun and Playa Del Carmen and other amazing destinations in the Riviera Maya, there’s no shortage of things to do within a reasonable driving distance.
One thing that has plagued Mexico’s Caribbean beaches over the course of the past year is the sargazo (seaweed). Typically, this is only something that these Mexico beach towns only have to deal with about 1 month a year, but lately it’s been different. In our opinion, the sargazo in Puerto Morelos hasn’t been too bad since we’ve been here. It can pile up on the beaches but the water has been pretty clear with its natural, gorgeous, hues of blue and green.
In today’s video, we ate breakfast at a local restaurant and later had some Veracruz-influenced seafood at another. We also took a short trip to Cancun to purchase some things that we’ve been needing from Costco, which was a super painless drive straight up the highway.

ExGringo 10 - Mexican Barbacoa in Rayon, San Luis Potosi, Mexico
In case you haven't noticed, one of our favorite things to do in Mexico is eat! Mexico is home to one of the most distinct cuisines in the world, and there's always something new to try. In this episode we get to try authentic Mexican barbacoa in a small town in the state of San Luis Potosí. It's a truly a family affair -- good food, good beer, and lots of cousins, uncles, aunts, grandparents, etc. all gathered together in the backyard for what is essentially the Mexican version of a barbecue cookout. I'd be very surprised if your mouth isn't watering after watching this episode of ExGringo!

This MEXICO MOUNTAIN TOWN is UNREAL!!
Tlalpujahua is like the real life Whoville of Mexico. So I decided to visit dressed as The Grinch!
I would never have believed a place like this actually exists but Tlalpujahua, Michoacan is a place where it's Christmas all year round. Literally 70% of the town's economy is based on producing Christmas ornaments and various Christmas decorations.
As you're walking through this Pueblo Mágico or Magic Town, literally half of the stores are selling Christmas goods.
