About us:
In March 2017, Rick and Andrea (confessed Travel Addicts) started a Facebook Group called Travel Addicts as a way to share their travel photos and videos not just with their own respective friend's lists – but with the world. Part of the reason was for bragging rights (I mean, that’s kind of the point of sharing photos, right?), but also to help answer questions to others about the destinations they have visited.
After inviting some of our friends and family, it grew and grew – and as of June 2019, the group has grown to over 200,000 members! One reason for our success, we believe, is that we have done our best to ensure only high-quality photos and videos get shared, all while limiting the use of commercial content.

I Fell in Love...18 Best things to do in Ravenna, ITALY | Ravenna Travel guide
I'm sharing my Ravenna travel guide ( the best things to do in Ravenna Italy. Ravenna is the mosaic heart of Emilia Romagna. There are 8 UNESCO World Heritage Mosaics in Ravenna but it is also a really cute town. Kinda like the Paris of Italy. A lesser known destination of Italy, if you're an art lover, this city will steal your mosaic heart.
Note: I attended the #STSRavenna, a Social Travel Summit conference put on by iAmbassador, Ravenna and Emilia Romagna Tourism Boards. I was invited so I could attend as a delegate. The conference is for travel bloggers' self-betterment and to encourage discussions about responsible tourism. Due to overtourism being a problem in so many places responsible tourism strives to find positive solutions to aid or promote travel which is ethical, responsible, sustainable, eco-friendly and/or anti-animal cruel. It is something I personally strive to practice in my own travels and hope to encourage in my fellow travelers.

RAVENNA - ITALY - THE BEST OF THE CITY IN ONE DAY!
RAVENNA - ITALY - THE BEST OF THE CITY IN ONE DAY!
RAVENNA: THE ROMANS BUILT RAVENNA IN THE MIDDLE OF A COASTAL LAGOON, PROTECTED FROM THE SEA. AT CLASSE, SOUTH OF RAVENNA, THEY BUILT A PORT TO WATCH OVER THE SAFETY OF THE ADRIATIC SEA.
RAVENNA WAS THE CAPITAL OF 3 DIFFERENT KINGDOMS FOR 350 YEARS! THE CAPITAL OF THE WESTERN ROMAN EMPIRE UNTIL THE YEAR 476 WHEN THE ANCIENT HISTORY ENDED AND THE MIDDLE AGES BEGAN, A VERY IMPORTANT EVENT THAT TOOK PLACE IN RAVENNA! THE CITY WAS THEN THE CAPITAL OF THE OSTROGOTHIC KINGDOM AND OF THE BYZANTINE EXARCHATE ESTABLISHED BY THE EASTERN ROMAN EMPIRE.
FROM A SMALL TOWN RAVENNA BECAME AN ECONOMIC, POLITICAL CRUX, AND THAT PUSHED A LOT CULTURE, ART, BUILDING, ESPECIALLY WHEN RAVENNA WAS THE CAPITAL CITY OF THE BYZANTINE EXARCHATE, BECAUSE IT WAS THE VITAL POINT BETWEEN WESTERN AND EASTERN CULTURE! SO, FOR ITS EARLY CHRISTIAN MONUMENTS, ITS MOSAICS SINCE 1996 RAVENNA HAS BEEN A UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE!
CHAPEL OF SANT'ANDREA: THE ONLY ORTHODOX MONUMENT STILL STANDING IN THE CITY, BUILT AT THE TIME OF THEODORIC. ALL THE DECORATIONS IN THE CHAPEL ARE ANTI-ARIAN, SUCH AS THE WARRIOR CHRIST WITH THE CROSS ON HIS SHOULDER.
NEONIAN BAPTISTERY: A BEAUTIFUL MOSAIC DEPICTS JESUS IN THE JORDAN RIVER RECEIVING BAPTISM.
BASILICA OF SANT'APOLLINARE NUOVO: COLOURFUL MOSAICS DEPICT SCENES FROM THE LIFE OF CHRIST, THE PALACE OF THEODORIC, THE EPIPHANY, THE PORT OF CLASSE AND COVER THE ENTIRE WALLS OF THE CENTRAL NAVE. WHAT STANDS OUT IS THE BYZANTINE INFLUENCE IN THE BEAUTIFUL GOLDEN BACKGROUND OF THE MOSAICS.
BASILICA OF SANT'APOLLINARE IN CLASSE: HERE IT IS THE APSE THAT SHOWS OFF SOME GREAT MOSAICS WITH SPLENDID REPRESENTATIONS OF THE DIVINE NATURE OF CHRIST IN LINE WITH THE ANTI-ARIAN TRENDS
BAPTISTERY OF THE ARYANS: A GREAT MOSAIC DEPICTS JESUS IN THE JORDANIAN RIVER IN THE ACT OF RECEIVING BAPTISM.
BASILICA DI SAN VITALE: THE BASILICA DI SAN VITALE IS THE MOST BYZANTINE BASILICA IN RAVENNA. THE INTERIOR IS FULL OF FAMOUS MOSAICS, THE FOCAL POINT OF WHICH IS LOCATED IN THE APSE. BUT THE BASILICA IS ALSO RICH IN VALUABLE DECORATIONS AND STUCCOES, SUCH AS THE CAPITALS SCULPTED IN BYZANTIUM.
MAUSOLEUM OF GALLA PLACIDIA: THE MOSAIC OF THE STARRY SKY AND THE OTHER MOSAICS ARE OF GREAT IMPACT ALSO BECAUSE THEY ARE CLOSER TO THE VISITOR, GIVEN THE SMALL SIZE OF THE SITE, WHICH SEEMS TO HAVE INSPIRED A SONG BY THE FAMOUS AMERICAN COMPOSER COLE PORTER.
MAUSOLEUM OF THEODORIC: BUILT AROUND 1500 YEARS AGO IN WHITE ISTRIAN STONE WITH HUGE DRYSTONE BLOCKS, SET ONE ON TOP OF THE OTHER. THE WHOLE STRUCTURE IS HELD TOGETHER BY AN ENORMOUS DOME MEASURING 33 FEET IN DIAMETER AND WEIGHING AROUND 230 TONS. IT IS A SINGLE BLOCK OF STONE! IN THE PAST THE MAUSOLEUM OF THEODORIC WAS MUCH HIGHER THAN IT IS TODAY, IT COULD BE SEEN FROM THE CENTRE OF THE CITY AND FROM THE SEA, WHICH AT THAT TIME WAS MUCH CLOSER. LATER SEDIMENTS DEPOSITED IN THIS AREA COVERED THE LOWER FLOOR OF THE MAUSOLEUM WHICH WAS BROUGHT TO LIGHT IN 1844, WHICH IS WHY THE LOWER FLOOR HAS A DIFFERENT COLOUR COMPARED TO THE UPPER FLOOR.
BASILICA OF SAN FRANCISCO: UNDER THE ALTAR OF THE CHURCH THERE IS AN OLD CRYPT WHICH, DUE TO THE PHENOMENON OF SUBSIDENCE (THE GROUND IS SINKING) IS NOW 10 FEET LOWER THAN THE FLOOR OF THE CHURCH, AND THIS CRYPT IS FULL OF WATER. ON THE FLOOR OF THE CRYPT THERE ARE THE REMAINS OF A MOSAIC THAT SOMETIMES GET RUSTY, BUT NOT BECAUSE THE TILES ARE MADE OF METAL, BUT BECAUSE SOME TOURISTS SOMETIMES THROW A COIN IN IT TO GET LUCKY. SO THE MOSAIC GETS RUSTY AND THE CRYPT HAS TO BE EMPTIED TO BE CLEANED.
DANTE'S TOMB: BACK FROM VENICE TO RAVENNA DANTE PASSED FROM THE COMACCHIO VALLEY, A SWAMPY AREA, HE CONTRACTED MALARIA AND DIED IN SEPTEMBER 1321 IN RAVENNA. HIS FUNERAL HAD BEEN CELEBRATED INSIDE THE BASILICA OF SAN FRANCESCO. IN 1519 A TUSCAN DELEGATION WAS GRANTED PERMISSION TO TAKE BACK DANTE'S BONES AND BRING THEM TO FLORENCE. ONCE THEY ARRIVED AT THE SITE THEY OPENED THE GRAVE BUT THE BONES WERE GONE BECAUSE THE FRANCISCAN FRIARS FROM OUTSIDE MADE A HOLE IN THE WALL OF THE TEMPLE AND SO THEY STOLE THE BONES. THEN THE BONES OF DANTE WERE MISSING UNTIL 1865 WHEN, DURING THE RESTORATION WORK FOR THE SIXTH CENTENARY OF THE BIRTH OF DANTE, A FEW STEPS AWAY FROM THE TOMB OF THE POET A BRICKLAYER KNOCKED DOWN A DOOR AND FOUND A SMALL BOX WITH A WRITE ON IT THAT HE COULD NOT UNDERSTAND BECAUSE IT WAS ILLITERATE. LUCKILY A STUDENT FROM THE UNIVERSITY READ OSSA DANTIS (DANTE’S BONES) ON THE BOX, AND FROM THAT MOMENT ON DANTE'S BONES HAVE RESTED IN THE FUNERARY MONUMENT DEDICATED TO HIM.

Complete Tour of Ravenna, Italy | The City of Mosaics
Ravenna is a city located around one hour from Bologna in north Italy. This place has always been on my bucket list ever since I was in high school, since the Basilica of San Vitale is located here. What's so special about this basilica? It was built in 547 and is a very important monument featuring the mosaics of the Byzantine Emperor Justinian I and his empress (who became a co-ruler and was instrumental in keeping him in power), Theodora. These mosaics are just really spectacular, there are no words to describe them. I wonder how they can survive all the way until now. Other than San Vitale, the city has many other early Christian monuments that are decorated with beautiful mosaics. Ravenna is also interesting because you can also enjoy buildings from the Medieval and Renaissance era. There are even Baroque frescoes, including in San Vitale. Overall, this city is not to be missed for history, culture and art lovers.

BOLOGNA TO RAVENNA TRAVEL. VISIT ITALY BY TRAIN. A Photography Journey For 100 Days.
Our 2nd day was not is Bologna. It was in Ravenna. One hour by train to get there from Bologna Central station. Ravenna was the capital of Western Roman Empire. Also a World Heritage Site for it’s well preserved late Roman and Byzantine architectures with buildings. There are 8 world heritage sites in Ravenna.
After a quick coffee and Creamy Croissant pause, we (4 of us this time, YES!) went to the Ravenna Tourist Office which is located not far from Piazza Del Popolo to purchase our passes. The Pass allowed us to visit 5 of them. The ticket cost 5.50 euro per person.

World Heritage Sites of Ravenna
1. Basilica Di S.Vitale (Founded by Julianus Argentarius and commissioned by Bishop Ecclesius, the octagonal church was consecrated by Archbishop Maximian in 548. ). It was a special place for another reason. We have never seen such hand crafted mosaic work anywhere. It was such a phenomenal work of art.
2. 2. Mausoleo Di Galla Pacidia ( these two were next to each other) ((386 – 450 AD), sister of the Roman Emperor Honorius who had transferred the Capital of the Western Empire from Milan to Ravenna in 402 AD, built this little Mausoleum with a Latin cross plan around 425-450 as her own resting place.)
3. 3. Battistero Degli Ortodossi, the oldest monument of Ravenna with mosaics and the side of Roman bath.
4. 4. Archiepiscopal Museum with ivory thrones and private Chappelle of San Andrea
5. 5. Basilica Di S.Apollinare Nuovo with round tall tower from 6th century. The red colored old tower was not standing straight. It was tilted a few degrees.
A quick word about the Piazza Del Popolo. This is the main square of Ravenna which was built in 15th century. According to my dear friend Marco who is the Ravenna local, it’s called People’s Square because it’s for the people. And we trust the local of course for local information.
We also visited the Tomb Of Dante. It is located in the Basilica of San Francesco in the center of Ravenna. The tomb is here because, this is where the great poet lived in his final years. He then passed away in 1321.
Reason of our Visit in Ravenna was to meet our friends from Australia after a very long time. One of whom are local of Ravenna. Our host took us to the center of Ravenna as our starting point. They looked after us. We did not have to do anything exept just following our hosts.
