Best San Diego Waterfall? Hike Los Penasquitos Canyon
Hike into Los Peñasquitos Canyon Preserve, is one of the largest urban parks in the United States. It's one of 8 waterfalls across San Diego County and is my favorite for accessibility and beauty.
Stretching approximately 7 miles, the park encompasses some 4,000 acres of both Peñasquitos and Lopez canyons. Set into the canyon center is a rock bound waterfall and set of pools. It runs year round but the canyon gets very hot in the summer. It's a popular spot so leave time on your excursion for finding parking, but it's worth it.

Penasquitos Creek Waterfall Loop via Carmel Valley | Waterfall San Diego Hikes
Penasquitos Falls Loop is an incredibly popular hike in San Diego because it is one of the few places where a waterfall can be seen. This is rare to have within the city of San Diego and therefore, attracts a lot of foot traffic. I was pleasantly surprised with how beautiful the trail to the falls was (Sycamore Crossing), but I probably won't be back here for a while. South Beach at Torrey Pines State Beach is just south of the creek mouth that flows from Los Penasquitos Marsh Natural Preserve in north La Jolla. There is a large parking lot just off North Torrey Pines Road right next to the beach. Just above the beach is a high bluff with hiking trails that look over the ocean (whale watching January-March) and the saltwater marsh.
