Costa Rica Travel: San Jose, Poas Volcano, Tortuguero, Arenal, Tamarindo
In February of 2013 I went on a 10-day trip to Costa Rica. I spent the first 8 days on a bus trip that took us from San Jose to the Central Valley and the Arenal Volcano. Then we travelled to the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica and spent two days in an eco-lodge in the nature reserve of Tortuguero. We got to experience the famous Britt Coffee Tour and a visit at a pineapple plantation. Then we drove back west again and spent one day in La Fortuna, next to the Arenal Volcano. After a visit to Arenal Hanging Bridges we drove to Costa Rica's west coast and stayed at the JW Marriott, a 5-star resort on the Pacific Coast where I also visited the village of Tamarindo. After a boat ride on the alligator-infested Tarcoles River we returned to San Jose, Costa Rica's capital. In the city I visited the Teatro Nacional and the Gran Hotel Costa Rica, two famous landmarks. On a walking tour of San Jose I saw many of the major sights including the Museo Nacional, the Parque Nacional, and the Catedral Metropolitana. On our last day in Costa Rica we took a bus out of town to visit the historic town of Cartago with its stunning basilica. After a final walk through San Jose we visited the Gold Museum which holds amazing pre-Columbian treasures.
