Rrëshen 2024 - 🇦🇱 #Albania
Rrëshen is a small town and a former municipality in Lezhë County, in northern Albania.
At the 2015 local government reform, Rrëshen became a subdivision and the seat of the municipality Mirditë. It was the administrative seat of the former Mirditë District. The population at the 2011 census was 8,803.
As an administrative seat, the town has schools and a hospital. After the Communist era, new facilities such as a hotel, a restaurant, and a cultural centre appeared in the area. The trunk route from the Kosovar border to Tirana and Durrës passes on each side of Rrëshen, providing good communications with the capital and the Adriatic. Before the Second World War, the city was classed as a small village, but administrative changes and an increase in the mining industry boosted the city's status. However, since the fall of Communism, most of the mines have become disused. This has resulted in mass migration to Tirana and larger, more industrial centres.

THETH - Home of the ALBANIAN ALPS | THETH - Baile na HALPA ALBÁNACH
Nestled deep in northeastern Albania is the tiny village of Theth. This is a mecca for hikers and people seeking peace alike. Home of the Albanian Alps, Theth really is a special place. We spent two nights there hiking and swimming but you could easily spend a week in this paradise.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________
Tá sráidbhaile beag darbh ainm Theth suite go doimhin in oirthuaisceart na hAlbáine. Is mecca é seo do shiúlóirí agus do dhaoine atá ag lorg na síochána araon. Baile na nAlpa Albanacha, is áit speisialta í Theth i ndáiríre. Chaitheamar dhá oíche ansin ag fánaíocht agus ag snámh ach d’fhéadfá seachtain a chaitheamh go héasca sa pharthas seo.

Pukë (Albanian definite form: Puka) is a town and municipality in northern Albania. It was formed at the 2015 local government reform by the merger of the former municipalities Gjegjan, Pukë, Qelëz, Qerret and Rrapë, that became municipal units. The seat of the municipality is the town Pukë. The total population is 11,069 (2011 census), in a total area of 505.83 km2. The population of the former municipality at the 2011 census was 3,607.
At 838 metres above sea level, the town is one of the highest in elevation in Albania and a well-known ski area. It is 150 km from Albania's capital, Tirana.
Etymology
The toponym may derive from Latin via publica (public road) as it was located on an old trade route.
History
The settlement is inhabited by the tribe of Puka, itself one of the seven tribes of Puka (Albanian: shtatë bajrakët e Pukës). According to tradition, collected by Hyacinthe Hecquard in the mid-19th century, the settlement of Puka had been founded by a Paolo Zenta, who according to Marin Barletius was a relative of Lekë Dukagjini.
The region also has its own Kanun, a set of traditional Albanian laws, and is known as Kanuni i Pukës (English: Canon of Pukë) and used mainly in Northern Albania and Kosovo.
In the 20th century, Pukë was expanded as a military base and a centre of Catholic education. The distinguished Albanian poet Migjeni taught in the town from 1936 to 1937.
Pukë is surrounded by a 400-hectare (1.5 sq mi) pine-coated massif.
As in other parts of Europe, climate change has extended and consolidated the range of the pine processionary moths, who defoliate pines, including in the pinelands of northern Albania.

Voskopojë - 🇦🇱 Albania @MTravelVlog
Moscopole (Albanian: Voskopojë; Aromanian: Moscopole, Moscopoli, Muscopuli or Voscopole; Greek: Μοσχόπολη or Βοσκόπολη; Turkish: İskopol or Oskopol is a village in Korçë County in southeastern Albania. During the 18th century, it was the cultural and commercial center of the Aromanians. At its peak, in the mid 18th century, it hosted the first printing press in the Ottoman Balkans outside Istanbul, educational institutions and numerous churches and became a leading center of Greek culture.
Historians have attributed the decline of the city to a series of raids by Muslim Albanian bandits. Moscopole was initially attacked and almost destroyed by those groups in 1769 following the participation of the residents in the preparations for a Greek revolt supported by the Russian Empire. Its destruction culminated with the abandoning and destruction of 1788. Moscopole, once a prosperous city, was reduced to a small village by Ali Pasha of Ioannina. According to another opinion, the city's decline was mainly due to the relocation of the trade routes in central and eastern Europe following these raids. Today Moscopole, known as Voskopojë, is a small mountain village, and along with a few other local settlements is considered a holy place by local Orthodox Christians. It was one of the original homelands of much of the Aromanian diaspora. It is sometimes called as a Jerusalem of the Aromanians.

A little about us...
We’re Lucy and Ben, two photographers from Cornwall, UK who’ve been living and travelling in our self-converted LDV Convoy camper van for the best part of four years. We’ve travelled all across Europe from West to East documenting our encounters with the people we meet as well as our own travels and adventures. We embrace the ethos of slow travel and minimal living, generally spending between 2 and 8 weeks in each country, getting to know each culture, cuisine and people as though we were locals ourselves as well as hiking, wild swimming and camping as we go.
We are currently on our third 7 month long road trip, travelling through the Balkans for the second time beginning in the French Alps and venturing as far East as Turkey, visiting 13 countries in between.
Our plan was simple: visit every country in Europe in our rusty tin can of a van. So far we’ve made it to 28 countries, travelling as far West as Portugal and as far East as Ukraine, having all sorts of crazy adventures in between.
Our main motivation for our travels is to capture photos and create documentary projects, so our van is primarily a vessel for our photography. We tend to focus on topics such as nomadism, traditional ways of life, the effects of recent political events and the difficulties of living in remote rural areas as well as documenting our own adventures and lifestyle on our various social channels.
We’ve had so many memorable experiences on our travels, and our photo documentary projects have given us an intimate insight into the lives of many different people and brought us together as friends.
We've visited the folk living in one of the most remote corners of Europe in the Albanian Alps, experienced the culture and traditions of the horsemen in the Hortóbagy National Park, and experienced life with Roma gypsies in their village in Romania, and there's still so much more to explore...

Albania's top tourist attraction, Castle of Gjirokastra
Albania, the castle at Gjirokastër, Castle of Gjirokastra in Albania. Let's visit Albania and let's go to Gjirokastra's eerie hilltop castle is one of the biggest in the Balkans. There's been a fortress at Gjirokastra in Albania since the 12th century, although much of what can be seen today dates to the early 19th century. The castle at Gjirokastra (Gjirokastra fortress) remains somewhat infamous due to its use as a prison under the communists. Inside the castle at Gjirokastra (Gjirokastra fortress) there's a collection of armoury, two good museums, plenty of crumbling ruins to scramble around, and superb views over the valley.
Gjirokastër is a city in southern Albania, in a valley between the Gjerë mountains and the Drino, at 300 metres above sea level. Its old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, described as a rare example of a well-preserved Ottoman town, built by farmers of large estate.

Adventure Activities Zip Line Albania Tirana
A zip-line, zip line, zip-wire, or zip-power-line is a pulley suspended on a cable, usually made of stainless steel, mounted on a slope. It is designed to enable cargo or a person propelled by gravity to travel from the top to the bottom of the inclined cable by holding on to, or being attached to, the freely moving pulley. It has been described as essentially a Tyrolean traverse that engages gravity to assist its speed of movement. Its use is not confined to adventure sport, recreation, or tourism, although modern-day usage tends to favor those meanings.
History
Ropeways or aerial cables have been used as a method of transport in some mountainous countries for more than 2,000 years, possibly starting in China, India and Japan as early as 250 BC, remaining in use in some remote areas in China such as Nujiang (Salween) valley in Yunnan as late as 2015 before being replaced by bridges. Not all of these structures were assisted by gravity, so not all fitted the definition of the zip-line.
Various technological advances in Europe in the Middle Ages improved the power-line's ropeways, some of which were still assisted by gravity.
The first recorded use of the zip-line as a form of entertainment was possibly in 1739, when Robert Cadman, a steeplejack and ropeslider, died when descending from Shrewsbury's St Mary's Church when his rope snapped. In literature, one appears in The Invisible Man (published 1897) by H. G. Wells as part of a Whit Monday fair and referred to as an inclined strong.
Some sources attribute the development of zip-lines used today as a vacation activity to the Tyrolean traverses developed for mountaineering purposes.
In the Australian outback, zip-lines were sometimes used for delivering necessities to people working in or on the other side of a valley, and they may have been used in conflicts by Australian troops to deliver food, mail and even ammunition to forward positions.
Oldest person to ride a zip-line
British great-grandfather Jack Reynolds became the oldest person to ride a zip-line on his 106th birthday on 6 April 2018 at Go Ape in Grizedale Forest, Cumbria.
