Portlethen - WHERE TO TRAVEL 2021- SCOTLAND

Please subscribe for the channel if you liked the video 😊

Portlethen is a town located approximately 7 miles south of Aberdeen. It was originally a small fishing village. The harbor is located in what is now Old Portlethen, the original village on the coast about a half a mile east from Portlethen Parish Church. It has some spectacular views from the cliffs at the shore which makes it an amazing location for drone filming.

Old Photographs Portlethen Aberdeenshire Scotland

Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Portlethen, Scottish Gaelic: Port Leathain, a town lying along the North Sea coast. located approximately 7 miles south of Aberdeen in Aberdeenshire. Portlethen was originally a small fishing village. Portlethen church sits on high ground overlooking the small community of Portlethen and its railway station. There is open farm land east of the church and an extensive graveyard and cemetery extends around the church. A large church hall is also built nearby and a car park is situated to the south. The church is built on the site of a previous place of worship, a Roman Catholic chapel, built in the 17th century. Portlethen Church opened as a chapel of ease around 1840 and has remained little altered to this day.

MOST BEAUTIFUL BEACH IN SCOTLAND?

I recently bought a Go Pro Hero 9 so I decided to have a trip to the beach to test out the full capabilities of the camera. The beach in question is called Muckle Shore in Portlethen, just south of Aberdeen City. The weather started up rather miserable but soon brightened up as I reached the beach.

Porthleven Storm, Massive Waves, Spectacular Stormy Seas, Porthleven, Cornwall, UK

Porthleven Storm | Massive Waves And Spectacular Stormy Seas At Porthleven, Cornwall, UK

Porthleven, Cornwall, UK, massive waves and stormy seas at high tide.

I decided to pop down to Porthleven (which is only about 20 min's away from where I live) as I had heard on the local news that stormy seas and massive waves were expected all along the coast of Cornwall. Find out more here:

Porthleven is renowned as a great place to go and storm watch.

This was the first time I'd been to Porthleven during stormy conditions and I have to admit I wasn't quite prepared for how rough and stormy the seas actually were.

The coastguards were out to make sure every[one was safe. You know the weather is bad and the seas are going crazy if the Coastguards are there making sure everyone is safe as they make their way along the harbour walls.

Midge Recommends: Edinburgh

Midge travels on the sleeper train from London Euston to Edinburgh for a fast bitesize exploration of Scotland's capital.

Balmossie Station 18/7/19

On a warm summers week in the Scottish Highlands we spend 4 days travelling to stations on both the Inverness and Aberdeen Line out of Edinburgh as we visit all the stations that see LNER Services formed of a HST Class 43 these are a sight that is soon to be lost as the new Azuma units take over and retires these historical sets from service.

These are the individual station videos for that week the full diary can be found here:

Enjoy!

I took the train FIRST CLASS from Leeds to Aberdeen FREE

I took the train FIRST CLASS from Leeds to Aberdeen with food and drink included for FREE: .

Hey folks, in this film I’ll be reviewing an amazing 7 hour train ride that I took from Leeds, England to Aberdeen, Scotland with LNER in first class luxury, which includes free food and drinks along the way, best of all though this journey ended up not costing me a penny! I had initially paid £43.50 for the ticket, but got all of the money back!

I began at Horsforth Station in Leeds, where I had to catch the 06:29 Class 170 Northern Train to Leeds. This wasn’t in first class, as Northern don’t do First Class. The Northern Train was late arriving in Leeds, so I had to make a bit of a dash from platform 1 to platform 9 to get my train to Aberdeen. On platform 9 I was met with a class 800 LNER Azuma.

I boarded the train to find my seat in coach K, seat 20. The seat reservation system was broken, but I took my booked seat anyway, which was an ‘airline’ single seat that was backwards facing. The seat was comfortable and reclined, it also had a large table and free wi-fi, which enabled me to work on the journey. The seat also has a 3 pin 240v electricity socket and a USB charging socket, both of which were a necessity on this long journey.

We departed Leeds at 07:08 (on time), en-route the train was scheduled to call at: York, Darlington, Durham, Newcastle, Morpeth, Berwick-upon-Tweed, Dunbar, Edinburgh, Haymarket, Inverkeithing, Kirkcaldy, Leuchars, Dundee, Arbroath, Montrose, Stonehaven and Aberdeen, the scheduled arrival time in Aberdeen was 13:02. Full ticket inspections took place after leaving Leeds, then after leaving Newcastle and Edinburgh. There was a crew change after both Newcastle and Edinburgh.

We departed stations at the following times:
York - 07:37 (2 minutes late)
Darlington – 08:06 (3 minutes late)
Durham – 08:25 (4 minutes late)
Newcastle – 08:47 (on time)
Morpeth – 09:05 (4 minutes late)
Berwick-upon-Tweed – 09:37 (3 minutes late)
Dunbar – 10:00 (3 minutes late)
Edinburgh – 10:28 (on time)
Haymarket – 10:33 (on time)
Inverkeithing – 10:48 (on time)
Kirkcaldy – 11:04 (on time)
Leuchars – 11:33 (3 minutes late)
Dundee – 11:46 (on time)
Arbroath – 12:06 (3 minutes late)
Montrose – 12:22 (3 minutes late)
Stonehaven – 12:43 (on time)
Aberdeen arrival – 14:08 (66 minutes late)

The scenery along the journey was spectacular: dawn broke over North Yorkshire; I saw the sun rise over Durham Cathedral as I crossed Durham viaduct; numerous historic railway buildings; crossing the King Edward VII Bridge at Newcastle-upon-Tyne and the views down the River Tyne; in Newcastle city centre I saw The High Level Bridge, Castle Keep and Tyne Bridge; River Aln estuary at Alnmouth; The Northumberland coastline, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB); crossing the Royal Border bridge at Berwick-upon-Tweed and the views down the River Tweed; the England – Scotland border marker; the spectacular Scottish countryside including miles and miles of beautiful coastline; Lamb’s Burn; Torness Nuclear Power Station; the approach to Edinburgh; Murrayfield Stadium; crossing the Firth of Forth on the Forth Railway Bridge; the Firth of forth coastline; Burntisland Beach; Stark’s Park (home of Wraith Rovers FC); crossing the Tay Estuary at Dundee on the Tay Bridge; Tay Estuary beaches including Balmossie and Carnoustie; the River South Esk crossing on the South Esk Viaduct; crossing the River North Esk; spectacularly beautiful snowy scenes between Montrose and Aberdeen; Craigeven Bay; crossing the River Dee on the River Dee viaduct, and; the approach into Aberdeen. This was a superb journey for the views alone, but the inclusive hospitality offering made it even better.

The hospitality offering for the journey consisted of: numerous offerings of tea, coffee and bottles of water; biscuits; crisps; a breakfast, I opted for the full LNER breakfast, consisting of bacon, sausage, black pudding, fried egg, baked beans, mushrooms and toast; fruit, I had a banana; fruit juice; chicken casserole for lunch; a chocolate pudding, and; numerous whisky’s served with ginger ale (the bar service begin at 11:00).

On the last 10 miles of the journey we hit a delay and were held at Portlethen for an hour. A points failure outside of Aberdeen Railway Station, meant that Network Rail engineers had to be called to rectify the problem. This resulted in a queue of trains waiting to access Aberdeen and we had to wait our turn. Consequently the bar re-opened and I received another whisky and dry ginger as well as a couple of delicious Vegolino chocolates.

By the time we got to Aberdeen we were 66 minutes late and after applying for a delay repay, I received a full 100% refund on my original ticket as well as my Seatfrog Upgrade, so I got this spectacularly long, beautifully scenic and hospitable journey for absolutely no cost! What can I say, LNER this was nothing but outstanding service on your part – THANK YOU
