Tour of Innerleithen, Scottish Borders, Scotland | Visitor Attractions, Cafes, Shops & Nature Walks

Today's video is from Innerleithen in the beautiful Scottish Borders. It's located about an hours drive south of Edinburgh and about a ten minute drive westwards from Peebles. If you're making a day out of it, it's well worth exploring after visiting Peebles.

In this video, I give you a quick tour around some of the best of Innerleithen's cafe's, shops and walks in and around the area. It's perhaps best known for St Ronan's Well, one of the first spas in Scotland, which has a lovely little visitor centre, garden and car park - well worth a visit.

With a growing reputation as a great base for mountain biking, the town is increasingly popular with bikers and there are a number of really good cycling shops and cafes serving hungry & thirsty cyclists. Nearby Glentress, with its world class mountain-biking trails, Osprey Centre and cafe/shop is also a must for keen cyclists & walkers (located just outside Innerleithen).

If you have time, take a walk over the beautiful stone bridge (B709) and walk up Pirn Hill in the Caberston Forest, to admire the amazing views of Pen Lee and the Tweed Valley. You might also like to have a stroll along the banks of the beautiful River Tweed, which runs past the town, or play a round of golf at Innerleithen Golf Course. Near the golf course is the lovely Leithen Water which has a great wee Fish ladder where you can see the occasional Salmon leaping! - October & November being the best months to see them leaping. Innerleithen is a great wee town, with so much to enjoy, and well worth a visit.

Places to see in ( Linlithgow - UK )

Places to see in ( Linlithgow - UK )

Linlithgow is a royal burgh in West Lothian, Scotland. It is West Lothian's county town, reflected in the county's alternative name of Linlithgowshire. An ancient town, it lies south of its two most prominent landmarks: Linlithgow Palace and Linlithgow Loch, and north of the Union Canal. Linlithgow's patron saint is Saint Michael and its motto is St. Michael is kinde to straingers. A statue of the saint holding the burgh coat of arms stands on the High Street.

Linlithgow is located in the north-east of West Lothian, close to the border with Stirlingshire. It lies 20 miles (30 km) west of Edinburgh along the main railway route to Glasgow. Before the construction of the M8 & M9 motorways and the opening of the Forth Road Bridge, the town lay on the main road from Edinburgh to Stirling, Perth and Inverness while the canal system linked the burgh to Edinburgh and Glasgow. The nearby village of Blackness once served as the burgh's port. Linlithgow is overlooked by its local hill, Cockleroi.

The chief historic attraction of Linlithgow is the remains of Linlithgow Palace, the birthplace of James V and Mary, Queen of Scots, and probably Scotland's finest surviving late medieval secular building. The present palace was started (on an older site) in 1424 by James I of Scotland. It was burnt in 1746, and, whilst unroofed, it is still largely complete in terms of its apartments (though very few of the original furnishings survived). Linlithgow was also the site of the Battle of Linlithgow Bridge at the western edge of the town. The bridge no longer stands. The roadway to Linlithgow over the River Avon is described by scholars as a lifted road.

The town has a generally east-west orientation and is centred on what used to be the main Edinburgh-Stirling road; this now forms the main thoroughfare called the High Street. Plots of farmed land, known as rigs, ran perpendicular to the High Street and comprised much of the town's development until the 19th century. Growth was restricted to the north by Linlithgow Loch, and by the steep hill to the south, but, in the late 19th & early 20th centuries, development began to take place much further south of the High Street. In the late 20th century, demand for housing saw many residential developments take place much further south, as well as spreading into new areas.

This southward development was bisected by the Union Canal and latterly the main Edinburgh-Glasgow railway line, and today the limited crossings of both cause problems with modern traffic as there are only three places where each can be crossed in the town.
To the west, Linlithgow Bridge used to be a somewhat distinct village with its own identity, but in the latter half of the 20th century it was enveloped in the expansion of the main town and today the distinction between them is hard to make out.

( Linlithgow - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Linlithgow . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Linlithgow - UK

Old Footage With Music Of Peebles On History Visit To Scotland

Tour Scotland short aerial 4K travel video clip, with Scottish Music, of old footage of Peebles, have an ancestry, genealogy, family history visit and trip to the Borders, Britain, United Kingdom. This Scottish town is located at the confluence of the River Tweed and Eddleston Water, locally called the Cuddy. Initially a market town, Peebles played a role in the woollen industry. Peebles was first used as a surname by descendants of the Pictish people of ancient Scotland. The ancestors of the Peebles family lived in the town of Peebles in the county of the same name. The name is occasionally derived from residence in the lands called Peebles near St. Vigeans in the county of Angus. Robert Chambers was born in Peebles on 10th of July 1802 to Jean Gibson, born 1781, died 1843 and James Chambers, a cotton manufacturer. He was their second son of six children. The town had changed little in centuries. The town had old and new parts, each consisting of little more than a single street. Peebles was mainly inhabited by weavers and labourers living in thatched cottages. His father, James Chambers, made his living as a cotton manufacturer. Their slate roofed house was built by James Chambers' father as a wedding gift for his son, and the ground floor served as the family workshop. A small circulating library in the town, run by Alexander Elder, introduced Robert to books and developed his literary interests when he was young. Occasionally his father would buy books for the family library, and one day Robert found a complete set of the fourth edition of the Encyclopædia Britannica hidden away in a chest in the attic. He eagerly read this for many years. Both Robert and his broth William were born with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot. Their parents attempted to correct this abnormality through operations, and while William's was successful Robert was left partially lame. So while other boys roughed it outside, Robert was content to stay indoors and study his books. The family moved to Edinburgh in 1813. Robert continued his education at the High School, and his brother William became a bookseller's apprentice. In 1818 Robert, at sixteen years old, began his own business as a bookstall keeper on Leith Walk. At first, his entire stock consisted of some old books belonging to his father, amounting to thirteen feet of shelf space and worth no more than a few pounds. By the end of the first year the value of his stock went up to twelve pounds, and modest success came gradually. On 7 December 1829 Robert married Anne Kirkwood, the only child of Jane and John Kirkwood. Together they had 14 children, three of whom died in infancy. At the beginning of 1832 Robert's brother William Chambers started a weekly publication entitled Chambers's Edinburgh Journal, which speedily gained a large circulation. Robert was at first only a contributor, but after 14 volumes had appeared, he became joint editor with his brother, and his collaboration contributed more perhaps than anything else to the success of the Journal. The two brothers eventually united as partners in the book publishing firm of W. & R. Chambers Publishers. Robert was a Scottish publisher, geologist, evolutionary thinker, author and journal editor who, like his elder brother and business partner William Chambers, was highly influential in middle of 19th century scientific and political circles. Robert Chambers died on 17 March 1871 in St Andrews, Fife. He was buried in the Cathedral burial ground in the interior of the old Church of St. Regulus, according to his wishes.
