A Majestic Beacon Overlooking the Arabian Sea Nestled along the golden sands of the Arabian Sea in Kollam district, the Thangassery Lighthouse is a sought-after destination for beach lovers and history enthusiasts alike. Standing tall at an impressive height of 135 feet, the Thangassery Lighthouse, built in 1902, served as a guiding light for fishermen and sailors navigating the treacherous reef-lined coastal waters. Its powerful beacon, visible up to 20 kilometres out at sea, remains a testament to the region's maritime history. Managed by the Cochin Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships, this cylindrical tower, painted in striking red and white oblique bands, is a stunning landmark rising gracefully above swaying coconut trees.
The spiral staircase inside the lighthouse invites visitors to embark on a climb of over 200 steps, leading to a breathtaking 360-degree panoramic view of the Arabian Sea, Kollam city and its picturesque backwaters. PATHANAMTHITTA TOURISM : Pathanamthitta, the smallest district in God’s own country is renowned as the centre of Pilgrim Worship in Kerala. The famous shrine of Lord Ayyappa in Sabari hills is situated in Pathanamthitta. Every year crores of pilgrims visit the adobe of Ayyappa in the sacred sabari hills.
Pathanamthitta is also known for learning and experiencing of many cultural and traditional practices of Kerala. This is a land of cultural training centres, water fiestas and pilgrim centres.
Pandalam is another attraction in this antique land. But Pandalam is second only to Sabarimala in sanctity. Kozhencherry in Pathanamthitta is famous for the biggest Christian religious convention known as the Maramon convention. This is the biggest religious gathering of the Christians in Asia.
Boat races are conducted in Pathanamthitta. Aranmula Metal Mirror is a unique feature of Pathanamthitta. Aranmula is famous for the metal mirror called as Aranmula Kannadi. Aranmula mirror made of bell metal is a unique art which is only in this place.

The district headquarters is located in the town of Pathanamthitta. The administration of the district is led by the District Collector, who is supported by five Deputy Collectors responsible for various areas such as general matters, revenue recovery, land acquisition, land reforms, election, and Disaster Management.
In the rural areas, Pathanamthitta follows a three-tier system of panchayat, consisting of one district panchayat, 8 block panchayats, and 53 grama panchayats. In the urban areas, there are four municipalities in the district, along with a census town called Kozhencherry.
According to the Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies Order of 2008, Pathanamthitta has five Assembly constituencies, reduced from eight. However, the district has been consolidated into a single Parliamentary constituency, contributing one seat to the Lok Sabha. The Pathanamthitta parliamentary constituency includes all five Assembly constituencies within the district, as well as two additional Assembly constituencies from the neighbouring Kottayam district. The main political parties in the district are Congress, Kerala Congress, CPM, and CPI.
The district of Pathanamthitta, which is the thirteenth revenue district of the State of Kerala, is situated on the slopes of the Western Ghats and extends to the low-lying rice fields that border Alappuzha District. It was established on the 1st of November, 1982, as per G.O. (M.S) No.1026/82/RD dated 29.10.1982, with its headquarters located in Pathanamthitta. The district is bounded on the North by Changanassery and Kanjirappally Taluks of Kottayam District and Peerumade Taluk of Idukki District, on the East by the State of Tamil Nadu, on the South by Kunnathur, Pathanapuram and Kottarakkara Taluks of Kollam District, and on the West by Chengannur, Mavelikkara and Kuttanad Taluks of Alappuzha District. It is replete with natural beauty, including undulating hills, mysterious forests, exotic wildlife, and enchanting valleys.
