Short History of Bellagio :

Bellagio was already famous in the Roman era
Its enchanting and strategic position has written its history
Holidays in Bellagio date back to ancient history.

The first person to leave a record of his stays in this spot was Pliny the Younger in the first century A.D. He owned two villas on the lake where he combined studying and writing with hunting and fishing. Over the centuries, the strategic position at the centre of the lake made Bellagio important enough to be the object of contention many times.

For a long period during medieval times, the village was dominated by nearby Como, but in 1100, it was already a free commune with its own court. However, in 1154, Frederick Barbarossa brought it under allegiance to Como once more. In the 13th century, Bellagio became part of the Duchy of Milan under the Visconti family. The town was responsible for the surveillance of the lake, and for this reason the Magistrate known as ‘Capitano del Lario’, was armed with two boats, each with twenty oarsmen and sixty soldiers, which he used to patrol the waters against piracy and smugglers.

The town of Bellagio extends from 229 meters. Above sea level up to 1686 meters. height of the top of Mount San Primo and is divided into 22 hamlets.

Come and discover Bellagio “The Pearl of Lake Como” and be amazed by what it can offer. From dawn to sunset, when the sky is full of stars, a flow of emotions and experiences: breakfast by the lake lulled by the gentle waves, walk in the shade of the ancient arcades, visits to gardens and villas, sports activities and new art and culinary experiences .

Italy offers a wonderful series of lakes, which have always attracted tourists and visitors. These ancient glacial lakes vary from the great expanses of Lake Garda (370 sq. km) to the tiny lakes of Olginate and Segrino (less than a single square kilometer each).

Lake Como is the richest of Italy’s three major lakes in terms of charm and culture. Its unmistakable upturned Y shape was carved out by a glacier that was forced to split into two by the mountain that stood in its path. The lake offers the visitor the longest and most indented coastline of all the Italian lakes (170 km) as well as some of the most delightful natural, architectural gems of the entire peninsular.
Lake Como is a true oasis of beauty where history, art, culture and nature merge to create a unique harmony in the world.

Underrated Italy | Vercurago Beach, Lake Garlate, Province of Lecco, Lombardy

Vercurago beach is on the shore of Lake Garlate and near the new cycle pedestrian path linking Lecco to Garlate, Olginate, Calolziocorte, and Vercurago.

South of Lecco the Adda river enlarges and creates lake Garlate. Along the evocative cycle path you meet the Abegg Silk Museum and breathe nature.
The Adda river enlarges its riverbed south of Lecco and becomes the lake Garlate until it reaches the dyke of Olginate.

It’s really evocative to get to Garlate along the lake's pedestrian-cycle path, both coming from Lecco and from Olginate or Calolziocorte. Along this path, you meet the Abegg Silk Museum which deserves a visit. Just in front, you can see the Municipality Palace, the former private residence of Abegg’s family.

Going on walking from the Abegg Palace you reach Garlate old town, characterized by its courtyards that welcome visitors during the yearly celebrated Festa delle Corti on the first weekend of September.

Almost three-quarters of the province is mountainous with the highest peak being Mount Legnone at 2,609 meters. There are a fair number of lakes throughout this province, including Lake Como and Lake Pusiano.

The Province of Lecco (It. Provincia di Lecco) is a province in the Lombardy region of Italy. Its capital is the city of Lecco. On 1 January 2001 the province had a population of 311,452 on a surface of divided in 90 comunes. The Province of Lecco is situated in northern central Italy. It is bordered to the north and west by the Province of Como, to the east and north with the Province of Sondrio, to the east by the Province of Bergamo, and to the south with the Province of Monza and Brianza. The Province of Lecco lies on the eastern shores of Lake Como; Lecco itself is an array of centuries-old villas and parks decorating a mighty, mountainous background. The city of Lecco grew rapidly beginning with the Industrial Revolution in the 18th Century, and eventually became one of the most important Italian industrial centers. Today, it is the capital of a wealthy and productive Province.

The province of Lecco has an area of only , with some located across the Adda River, in Valsassina. The remaining land is located in the Oggionese, the Casatese and the Meratese, with an additional belonging to the municipality of Oliveto Lario, located on the other side of Lake Como, in Vallassina, within the pre-Alpine Lecchese. 70% of the province is mountainous and the other 30% is hilly. The highest point is Mount Legnone in the north of the province, high; at the center of the spectacular Grigne. In the west, is Monte Cornizzolo lake at and Monte Rai at . In the east of the province is Monte Serrada and the Resegone di Lecco, with its characteristic shape reminiscent of the teeth of a saw. In the center-south is Monte Barro at , in the Monte Barro Regional Park. The province contains numerous lakes, with Lake Como and Lake Annone in the comunes of Garlate and Olginate. To the west, the comunes of Rogeno, Bosisio Parini and Cesana Brianza overlook Lake Pusiano. There is also an abundance of rivers, including the main Adda river and the Lambro, running through Costa Masnaga, Rogeno and Nibionno. Lombardy, Italian Lombardia, regione of northern Italy. It is bordered on the north by Switzerland and by the Italian regioni of Emilia-Romagna (south), Trentino–Alto Adige and Veneto (east), and Piedmont (west). Administratively, Lombardy consists of the provincie of Bergamo, Brescia, Como, Cremona, Lecco, Lodi, Mantova, Milano, Monza e Brianza, Pavia, Sondrio, and Varese. The capital is Milan.

Lombardy is divided physically into three parts from north to south—a mountainous Alpine and pre-Alpine zone; a zone of gently undulating foothills; and a zone of alluvial plains sloping gently to the Po River in the south. The Alpine division reaches a height of 13,284 feet (4,049 metres) in the Bernina. The foothill zone is partly composed of morainic material and contains a number of scenic lakes. The regione is drained southward by many rivers, all of them tributaries of the Po, including the Ticino, the Adda, and the Oglio, with its affluents the Mella and Chiese, and the Mincio. The regione abounds in lakes and contains all or part of Lakes Garda (Italy’s largest lake), Maggiore, Lugano, Como, Iseo, Idro, and Varese and the lakes of the Brianza (Pusiano, Annone, Alserio, and Segrino). The climate is generally continental, with hot summers and cold winters, and rainfall varies from about 24 inches (610 mm) annually in the area near the Po River to 80 inches (2,032 mm) in the mountainous regions.

10 CITTA' FANTASMA IN ITALIA

#cittafantasma #luoghiabbandonati #urbex #esplorazione #avventura

1 - Apice vecchia (in provincia di Benevento), è stata progressivamente abbandonata dopo

HOW is this EVEN POSSIBLE?!! - Motorhome Touring Italian Lakes

Fitting through tight spaces in a large vehicle and strange alien looking rock formations. This leg of our Motorhome Tour really did make us question the laws of physics.

We were only able to find one Lake Iseo campsite open at the end of March, it was a lovely campsite on the lake edge but wow, what an approach down the narrow lane. We weren't the only 7.5m Motorhome there so it is definitely ok to go but I wouldn't risk it in anything larger than us. (7.5x2.25m)

The ride around the Island of Monte Isola is lovely, ebikes are recommended as it is very steep in places, finding you way around the island is very straightforward but if you want the GPS route, here it is: The Ferry runs very frequently so you can just turn up, buy your tickets (don't forget the bikes) and go.

After Squeezing out of the Campsite we head the short distance to Zone to see the Piramidi di Zone. wow, they defy belief and have to be seen to be believed. We also take a very steep hike to see the Forest Of Gnomes - there were so many!!

Our MOST EXHILARATING ride - Tracciolino Trail - Motorhome Touring 🇮🇹

The Tracciolino Railway Panoramic Trail was a surprise find for us in Italy on our Motorhome Tour, we visited Campo Mezzola by chance due to bad weather in Switzerland. The drive over the Julier Pass was spectacular. Then the park up, wow, what a location for €10 including Grey and Fresh facilities. (No Chemical).

This area is totally not commercialised, there is virtually nothing in the way of shops, restaurants and bars but that is not the reason to visit here. The views and nature are magnificent.

Access to the Tracciolino Railway Panoramic Trail is via a steep 2000ft climb from Verceia. (it is possible to take a car up there but you would need to be a very confident driver to do it. At end of the road section turn left along the train line for the panoramic trail or right towards the Diga di Moledana Edison Dam.

As seen in the video, the trail is not open due to a landslip but when we were there we saw 3-4 other couples hiking. We didn't feel the track was dangerous at any point but you'll need to make your own assessment with conditions at the time. We would definitely like to go back without the bikes and hike the circular route that is possible on foot.

Our last stop in this video was at an Aire in Olginate, we didn't get a chance to explore much here but the aire was great as was the coffee on the BarLugani cafe (also where you pay). (€10 2023)
