NYC Drive: Midland Beach + New Dorp in a Crown Victoria on Staten Island

Welcome to the first drive video in Staten Island! the $6+ toll each way with no connections, activities, or business on the island keeps me out of the borough most times. Today, I just wanted to see what the borough was up to so I took a nice drive through Staten Island.

We start this drive in Midland Beach on Father Capodanno Boulevard. This is the road commuters take to avoid Hylan Boulevard, road known for its heavy traffic. Then we take Lincoln Avenue to head toward Hylan Boulevard. The drive down Hylan Boulevard is a little surreal. It's very suburban feeling but not quite Long Island or Westchester in appearance. It's less busy than Northern Boulevard or Jamaica Avenue at its farther outreaches. It feels a little like New Jersey. Then we make a right onto New Dorp Avenue and go through the main commercial strip of the area. There is a mix of small businesses of Italian heritage but also a burgeoning Chinese community. After we reach Richmond Road, we make a right and drive a little more.

Enjoy this ride in a Ford Crown Victoria.

Walking Through Times Square, New York City on busy day

times Square is a major commercial intersection, tourist destination, entertainment center, and neighborhood in Midtown Manhattan, New York. It is formed by the junction of Broadway, Seventh Avenue and 42nd Street. Together with adjacent Duffy Square, Times Square is a bowtie-shaped space five blocks long between 42nd and 47th Streets.

Brightly lit by numerous billboards and advertisements, it is sometimes referred to as the Crossroads of the World,[2] the Center of the Universe,[3] the heart of the Great White Way,[4][5][6] and the heart of the world.[7] One of the world's busiest pedestrian areas,[8] it is also the hub of the Broadway Theater District[9] and a major center of the world's entertainment industry.[10] Times Square is one of the world's most visited tourist attractions, drawing an estimated 50 million visitors annually.[11] Approximately 330,000 people pass through Times Square daily,[12] many of them tourists,[13] while over 460,000 pedestrians walk through Times Square on its busiest days.[7]

Formerly known as Longacre Square, Times Square was renamed in 1904 after The New York Times moved its headquarters to the then newly erected Times Building, now One Times Square.[14] It is the site of the annual New Year's Eve ball drop, which began on December 31, 1907, and continues to attract over a million visitors to Times Square every year.[15]

Times Square, specifically the intersection of Broadway and 42nd Street, is also the eastern terminus of the Lincoln Highway, the first road across the United States.[16]
