Welcome to our video on the top things to do along the Ruta de las Flores, one of El Salvador’s most scenic routes. This 36-kilometer road winds through charming villages, colorful markets, and stunning landscapes, offering a mix of culture, history, and natural beauty. Here are some of the best places to visit and activities to enjoy along the Ruta de las Flores.

Start your journey in Nahuizalco, a town famous for its rich indigenous heritage and traditional crafts. Visit the local market, where you can shop for handmade wicker and wooden furniture, baskets, and other artisan goods. Nahuizalco is also known for its night market, where you can sample local dishes like pupusas and tamales in a unique, lantern-lit setting.

Next, head to Salcoatitán, a small, picturesque village known for its colonial church and coffee culture. The village’s main square is surrounded by charming cafes where you can enjoy locally grown coffee. Salcoatitán is a great place to relax, take in the atmosphere, and explore the murals and local art that line the streets.

Continue on to Juayúa, one of the most popular stops on the Ruta de las Flores. Juayúa is famous for its weekend food festival, where you can try a wide variety of Salvadoran dishes, from grilled meats to exotic fruits. Be sure to visit the Iglesia del Cristo Negro, a historic church in the heart of the town. For nature lovers, the nearby Los Chorros de la Calera waterfalls offer a refreshing escape, with beautiful cascades surrounded by lush vegetation.

Apaneca is another must-visit town along the route. Known for its cool climate and coffee plantations, Apaneca is the perfect place to take a coffee tour and learn about the region’s rich coffee-growing history. For adventure seekers, Apaneca offers thrilling activities such as zip-lining and exploring the Laguna Verde, a serene crater lake surrounded by forest.

Finish your trip in Ataco, a vibrant village known for its colorful murals and artisanal crafts. Walk through the cobblestone streets and admire the murals that depict scenes of local life, history, and culture. Ataco is also a great place to shop for textiles, pottery, and coffee. The town’s charming atmosphere, with its cafes and restaurants, makes it a perfect place to end your journey.

Riding With The Locals El Salvador Salcoatitan & Nahuizalco 🇸🇻

Salcoatitan & Nahuizalco, Ruta De Las Flores, El Salvador 🇸🇻

Riding the collectivo between towns is the best way to get around the Ruta De Las Flores in El Salvador and interact with the friendly local people.

We tried local food in salcoatitan and soaked up the chilled atmosphere, for a tiny town it was one of the best we visited.

Then we spent a couple of days in Nahuizalco which was the most beautiful town on the route. 🇸🇻🇸🇻🇸🇻

Travel Guide El Salvador - Visiting Santa Ana [S3-E63]

In our latest episode of our El Salvador Travel Guide we arrive in the City of Santa Ana. A wonderful and fun city. We show you around visiting the main sites of Santa Ana including the Theatre, main square. pools and market.

Santa Ana is the second largest city in El Salvador. Located in the coffee growing region it is the perfect location to explore the Ruta de las Flores, the near by Santa Ana Volcano and lake Coatepeque.

We had a wonderful time in this city and suggest you add it to your destinations in El Salvador.

We stayed in Hostal Sole, which is a short walk from the main square and was a great location to discover the city

A huge thanks to Edwin from EC Tours for showing us the beauty of El Salvador and if you are looking for tours then check out their web site

Thanks for watching and coming on this adventure with us as we TREAD the Globe.

Ruta de las Flores Nahuizalco El Salvador Travel Guide [S3-E64]

In this episode we leave the city of Santa Ana and start our trip along El Salvador's Ruta de las Flores. We start by visiting the town of Nahuizalco - a wonderful town with a great square, church, market and helps give you a real feel of life here in El Salvador.

We spent a few weeks travelling around various parts of El Salvador and if you have heard El Salvador is dangerous and not safe, then from our perspective as tourists we had a fabulous time. El Salvador is full of wonderful kind people who made us feel very welcome and at no point did we feel unsafe.

Ruta de las Flores - El Salvador Travel Vlog | Ataco to Nahuizalco | Indian Couple in Latin America

The five towns of Ruta de las Flores in western El Salvador exposed us to beautiful landscapes, Salvadoran culture, food, art, and the beautiful people of El Salvador, and two lovely dogs.

We stayed in the cool climate of Ataco which turned out to be our favorite in the Ruta de las Flores. The nature and townscapes of Apaneca, the fun in the Albania maze, our experience during the 7 waterfalls hike and food festival in Juayua, the mosaic art of Salcoatitan, and the night market at Nahuizalco town center sum up the highlights of our Ruta de las Flores tour.

Our Airbnb host Antonio prepared special meals for us on various occasions and 'tried' to teach us the process of making pupusas! Staying at this home with Antonio and his two rescued dogs, Callejas and Guarda, was the highlight of our time in Ruta de las Flores, El Salvador.

El Salvador Flower Route and Santa Ana Volcano | 90+ Countries with 3 Kids

Ruta de las Flores - Flower Route is one of El Salvador’s most popular tours because of its picturesque abundance of flowers along the 22-mile road. It is surrounded by mountains as well, it looks divine and if you have time to make a few stops, you get the chance to visit many wonderful villages like Nahuizalco, Juayúa, Apaneca.

In addition to the flowers, there are many coffee plantations that you can see along the road. Coffee is a really important national product, and you get the opportunity to see the beans up close in its natural form. On this tour, we’ve really got the chance to explore different parts of this country.

We enjoy a full 2 day tour with Ivan from Real Trips which included a hike up the Santa Ana volcano.)
Here’s the link to his site:

Ivan took us to a lake canyon near Santa Ana, Lago de Coatepeque. Then around the flower route stopping in little villages with Central parks, churches, a christ statue, markets, look out points … and to the hotel at night. We ended the day with hot springs!!!

El Salvador has a bad reputation for being dangerous but we felt safe the whole time we were there. We walked around all the little towns along the Flower Route and had no problems at al.

Enjoy the video and make sure to let us know where you’re watching from!

Nahuizalco

Weaving, wicker, and other crafts are the focus in Nahuizalco, a small village on the Ruta de las Flores with a strong indigenous influence. Hammocks, purses, and handcrafted furniture are just some of the wares brought in from surrounding towns. At night the market comes alive with a festive atmosphere as the craft shops stay open lit only by candlelight. This region also produces chocolate; a few of the local cacao plantations are open for tours..
