Switzerland is full of wonderful villages but a majority of them remains widely unknown to the common tourist. While many may find their perfect village in the touristy hotspots, some might prefer rather calm and lonely villages. Sometimes you may find these villages just nearby the touristy centers but mostly it would require a lot of research. In this video, I present you the Top 10 secret villages of Switzerland, spots at where you may enjoy the serenity. Bürglen in the Canton of Uri is the hometown of William Tell, the national hero of Switzerland. The village of Bürglen is very small but worth a quick 30 minutes’ exploration. It’s best to be combined with the Schächental and the Klausenpasss. Morgins is a wonderful winter wonderland village in the lower part of the canton of Valais. It’s very quiet but beautiful with the many houses decorated with their Christmas lightings. It’s best to walk around during sunset and dusk. Morgins is furthermore part of the Portes du Soleil ski resort. Luchsingen is another secret village of Switzerland in the canton of Glarus. The environment at Luchsingen is very green and you may find many beautiful traditional houses. Luchsingen is perfect to combine with the Klausenpass and the Diesbach and Berglistüber waterfalls. Samnaun is in the very east of Switzerland. It's mainly known for the famous ski resort Silvretta Arena but many people do not know that Samnaun is one of the most beautiful villages during Winter in Switzerland. Roam around the many alleys and enjoy the houses with their colorful paintings. Schwarzenmatt in the green Simmental valley is a perfect hidden gem. It’s very quiet up there, just perfect to enjoy the green environment, the fresh air, seeing the many Swiss cows and wonderful traditional wooden houses. Münster in the canton of Valais is commonly passed by on the way to Zermatt. Definitely, it’s worth a quick stop as Münster is full of wonderful traditional houses. There are many alleys and corners to explore, thus another great secret Swiss village! Luthern in the canton of Luzern is also barely known among the tourists. The village charms with its beautiful church and green hill environment. The houses in Luthern furthermore remind one of the nearby Emmental. Definitely, Luthern is good to combine with Luzern and the Emmental. Carona lays in Italian-speaking Ticino and is another hidden gem village of Switzerland. The village is famous for its many artisans and just feels very calm overall. Do not forget to visit Carona’s botanical gardens. Evolène in the canton of Valais is the most beautiful village in the Val d’Hérens. It’s getting more known recently but still remains a secret tip. Monthey is Swiss Commune in Canton of Valais, located in Chablais, at the foot of the Dents du Midi. Monthey is at the entrance to the Rhône Valley. It is known for its carnaval festival, one of the largest in Suisse Romande (French Speaking Region in Switzerland). It is about 52 km from Lausanne and 48 km from Sion. -Pont Couvert (Couvered Bridge) which you saw in the video is a remarkable structure, was built by the La Bâtiaz (Martigny) the mastery of the carpenters of that time. It was built in 1809, a year before the Valais joined the French Empire and became its 130th department, known as the Simplon. The work, entrusted to Gaspard Egger, master carpenter in Bex, began in April and was completed around November of the same year. -Église de Monthey: The first church in Monthey dates from 1707. It was surrounded by the cemetery. In poor condition and too small, it was demolished around 1850, except the bell. The current church was built in 1855.

6 Things You Absolutely Must Try in the French and Swiss Alps

Portes du Soleil is comprised of 12 resorts spread over approximately 400 square miles in France and Switzerland. Best of all, you can ski or snowboard through all of the resorts using a single lift ticket (around $53 per person).
There’s so much on offer, so you need to plan your vacation wisely. Here are my picks for the top 6 things to see and do in the French and Swiss Alps.
6. Paragliding
The best 75 euro you’ll ever spend is paragliding in Les Gets. First-timers ride tandem and require very little coaching. My instructor with Air Libre did all the work while I sat back, took photos and enjoyed the view. From way up there, we could see the Swiss border and Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps.

5. Speed Riding
Up the ante and try something a bit more daring with a parachute … zooming straight down a slope on skis. At Paragliding School Portes du Soleil in Morzine, you can try this Red Bull-approved sport for yourself and have bragging rights for a lifetime.
Remember kiddos, speed riding is not for everyone. You’ll need to be a strong skier to even consider it.
During a group lesson setting, after adequate instruction, there’s time for newbies to put their skills to the test at least twice. Depending on your ski to falling ratio, two runs might be all the excitement you need.
4. Igloo Bar
Where else but in the French and Swiss Alps can you ski to a reggae dance party in an Igloo? Head straight to Avoriaz, located on the French side of Portes du Soleil, for a full bar, chill out areas, reggae music and a cove of ice sculptures. Ya mon.
3. Fondue And Raclette
Nothing says the Alps like cheese…gooey, hot, pungent cheese. Some of my favorite places for a gluttonous night out are Le Vieux Four in Chatel, La Ferme de la Fruitiere in Morzine and La Fruitiere des Perrieres in Les Gets, where a Japanese cheesemaker (gasp) creates award-winning dishes.
2. Night Sledging
The best time to go sledging (also known as sledding) is during twilight, when the slopes are empty.
When you manage to fall (and you will), you’ll enjoy sledging even more. With your center of gravity so close to the ground, it’s unlikely that you’ll feel any discomfort when crashing. In fact, falling is kinda the best part.
1. Rock the Pistes
Each spring, crowds gather throughout Portes du Soliel for a free outdoor concert series. Expect international rock stars, costumes and people dancing in full-on snow gear. Past performers include Klaxons, Babyshambles, Selah Sue and Lee “Scratch” Perry.

Top 5 SKI RESORTS in SWITZERLAND - [Detailed Guide]
Switzerland is one of the best destinations for Winter sports, especially for skiing! The Swiss Alps are full of fantastic ski resorts. Among the many, I present you Top 5 that I consider belonging to the best ski resorts of Switzerland. The SILVRETTA ARENA at Samnaun is one that is often overlooked, while you actually should eye at it as it is one of the very best in all of Switzerland! The Silvretta Arena is a binational ski resort that allows you to switch between Switzerland and Austria. It’s very snow sure, as most of the slopes are above 2000 meters! You will have many slopes and lifts to choose, thus, much to explore. It’s best to stay here for at least 3-5 days! Samnaun is by the way easier to be reached from the Austrian side. Explore the village of Samnaun too! It’s a beautiful Swiss Winter village and also great for shopping, since it’s entirely duty-free. The ALETSCH ARENA is located in the canton of Valais and offers you fantastic panoramas over the Swiss Alps, including the Aletsch Glacier and the iconic Matterhorn. There are three stations: Fiescheralp, Bettmeralp and Riederalp. The resort is very sunny but at the same time snow sure! Great slopes are from the Bettmerhorn down to Bettmeralp or then at Schönbiel, Riederfurka or Flesch. Bettmeralp is one of the most beautiful Winter villages of Switzerland, do walk around, especially during sunset and dusk! The best way to arrive there is by train; it stops directly at the cabin station down in Betten. It is recommended to stay at the Aletsch Arena for at least 3 days. The PORTES DU SOLEIL is at where you can travel on ski! It’s so large that you would need more than 10 days to explore all of it. The major station on the Swiss side is at Les Crosets, at where you have numerous lifts and slopes to try out. Very nice is the Grand tour starting from Morgins heading to Champoussin, Les Crosets, Avoriaz, Châtel and then again reaching back at Morgins. Try out the probably steepest slope in the entire world: The Swiss wall. It has an incline of over 90%! Due to the incredibly large size of this ski resort it is recommended to stay here for around 5 to 7 days. FLUMSERBERG is the perfect ski resort for one-day trips. It is easily reached by car or train from most of the regions of Switzerland. The resort is quite small but offers you many slopes. Very nice are the pine tree forest back to Tannenboden, the slope down from the Leist to Panüöl and the witch forest “Häxäwäldli”. The main peak of Flumserberg is the Maschgenkamm from where you can access most of the other parts of the resort. The perfect length of stay is 2 days; stay overnight at Tannenboden and enjoy a marvellous sunrise! SAAS-FEE/SAASTAL is the most snow sure ski resort due to its high elevation and limited exposure. Most of the upper parts are up on the glacier, which is a very unique experience. The best peaks to visit are the Mittelallalin and Hohsaas. The major asset of this ski resort are the very long slopes; it will take you 20-30 minutes to ski down from the Mittelallalin to the village of Saas-Fee. The sunniest site of this ski resort is at Saas-Grund. Very underrated but actually perfect for skiing and less busy! The village of Saas-Fee is also suitable for non-skiers and families to visit; especially since it is car-free. In that case, consider going up for lunch at the Mittelallalin at the revolving restaurant and then explore the ice pavilion inside the glacier. A great hotel is the Capra (sponsored content). A fantastic 5-Star Hotel that offers brilliant service and hospitality. The rooms are very cozy, the food delicious and the spa perfect for relaxation!
