While daredevils have been going over the falls in barrels, crossing them on tightropes, and even jumping into the gorge for nearly two hundred years, there are plenty of things to do in Niagara Falls that don’t require you to risk your life.
Attractions such as the Maid of the Mist, Cave of the Winds, and Journey Behind the Falls let you get up close and personal with the roaring waterfalls. Just be prepared to get wet with many of the things to do in Niagara Falls. Most of them provide you with rain ponchos to help keep you dry, but you'll want to have some good footwear if you don't want your feet to be squishing around for the rest of the day.
If history is more your thing, check out Old Fort Niagara and the Niagara Parks Power Station. The fort was the longest-operating in North America and has a lot of history to explore. You can expect to spend several hours exploring the grounds and learning about its history. The power station also has a long history and the nighttime show takes you all the way from the ice age to modern times.
There are lots of outdoor things to do in Niagara Falls as well. You can explore the Niagara Glen Nature Reserve, check out the Great Gorge Rapids from the White Water Walk or hike the miles of trails in Devil’s Hole State Park.

There are so many things to do at Niagara Falls in New York, like taking a boat ride under the falls, night fireworks, or a trolley ride along the Niagara River. Let us be your travel guide as we explore the US side of the falls and show you these cool places. Just a note that while the American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls are on the US side and Horseshoe Falls are on the Canadian side, you can still see all of them.
This video is part of our epic road trip to all 5 US Great Lakes (Ontario, Erie, Huron, Superior & Michigan) where we visited Niagara Falls in New York, Sleeping Bear Dunes, Pictured Rocks and Apostle Islands National Lakeshores, Mackinac Island, the Porcupine Mountains (Porkies as they say in da UP), the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in Ohio, the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit, the Lakeshore bike trail in Chicago, Frankenmuth the year-round Christmas city - are you tired yet? Oh and we ate a lot of pasties and fudge. Like a lot of fudge. So much fudge that we actually take no offense to the Yoopers and Trolls calling us Fudgies. We've been called much worse. 10 Kayaks Lock Through the Erie Canal Locks at Lockport NY USA.
I was at the lower lock 34 waiting too see what was locking through. When the doors opened, I looked and didn't see anything and they kept on opening and there was no boat. Finally they opened all the way I saw the 10 Kayaks. I have never seen that many Kayaks in one place before.

Of course a visit to Niagara Falls New York starts with a look at the powerful falls and a boat ride in Maid of the Mist. But there is plenty to see beyond this natural wonder. We head to both a charming French Bistro and the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute for some good eats. Plus, for some more cultural and history come along as we visit Old Fort Niagara and then head on a Lockport Locks Boat Cruise along the hand dug Erie Canal.
