Visiting DUBROVNIK's Franciscan Monastery | Heart of the OLD TOWN!
DUBROVNIK, CROATIA: I spent the morning exploring the Franciscan Church and Monastery, home to a historic pharmacy, church and library. Some say it’s the oldest pharmacy in Europe!

The monastery is a big tourist attraction and lots of people visit it whilst in Dubrovnik. It’s conveniently situated on the Stradun right in the heart of the old town. There are plenty of tours that will walk you around and tell you all about its vast history - introducing you to both the new and old pharmacies, the historic church and a courtyard of pretty gardens.
I decided to visit on my own and without a tour guide - allowing me to take my time and enjoy a slow walk through the cloisters, library building and displays. If you have a few days in Dubrovnik then visiting the Franciscan Monastery is a must!
Whilst on the tourist trail I decided to stop off at the Serbian Orthodox Church of the Holy Annunciation (Crkva Svetog Blagoveštenja) which was built in 1877 and is just a couple of minutes walk from the Stradun.
After strolling around the old town for another hour or two I found the steps where the hit TV show Game of Thrones filmed Cersei's Walk of Shame scene. Although I hadn’t watched the show myself I was able to find a few online photographs and compare what was seen in the TV show to the actual filming location. If you’re not a Game of Thrones fan the Historic Stairs are still worth a visit - and maybe even a photo or two.

The Castle was referred to for the first time in 1315. Its construction started with the intention to have a guarding point over the passage across the river Váh and the trade route from the Váh Basin to Orava and further to Poland.
The Castle owners, the noble family of Hunyady, gradually reconstructed and widened the core of the Castle and built the part called the lower Castle in the second half of the 15th century. In the second half of the 17th century, the Thökölys eventually finished the entire fortification system though it was of no use as it did not prevent the disaster at the beginning of the 18th century when the retreating troops of František Rákoczi completely pulled down the Castle in 1707.
The Castle gradually decayed into ruins. After a thorough reconstruction in recent years, the tower Hunyadyho veža was opened to the public. It contains an exhibition of the Castle's history.

Niekedy ani pohľad na nebo nedokáže utíšiť hnev a žiaľ. Ľudskou vlastnosťou je nevzdávať sa a žiť pre krásne okamihy. Provizórne myšlienkové pochody sú akousi pochodňou a svetlom na konci tunela. Možno to je aj najkrajším odkazom opustených miest, že boli a zanechali nám tie najkrajšie spomienky...
