Cameroon: WAZA NATIONAL PARK
Waza National Park was initially formed as a hunting reserve in 1934. Later, in 1968, it was made a national park, and in 1979, a UNESCO biosphere reserve. The Waza National Park has a surface area of 17,000 square kilometers and is known for its Sahel and savannah vegetation.
Waza National Park is one of the most significant parks in Africa and the most famous wildlife park in Cameroon's capital city. It is also the only park where you can observe endangered creatures.
Waza National Park is reportedly the most stunning and spectacular wildlife refuge in West Africa.
It's also one of the ten parks and reserves where the big five lions, elephants, rhinoceroses, leopards, and buffaloes can be found, which Cameroon takes great pride in. This Park contains one of Africa's best-preserved rainforest portions

Grand Mosque N'Djamena in N'Djamena, Chad
Grand Mosque N'Djamena , The Central Mosque is a dominating feature of N'Djamena, the capital and largest city of the central African nation of Chad.
N’Djamena is the capital and largest city of Chad. A port on the Chari River, near the confluence with the Logone River, it directly faces the Cameroonian town of Kousséri, to which the city is connected by a bridge.
Visit Grand Mosque N'Djamena, a place of spiritual unity, a central element of N'Djamena, and a common space for locals to gather. Experience mass among worshipers of Islam in this sacred building, or listen to the echo of prayer booming from the mass itself while enjoying the city views surrounding it.
As a Muslim city, there are many mosques to see in the city, as well as a cathedral and the presidential palace. And do not forget the views across the river. Sunset can be quite spectacular.
Other Attractions in the city include the Chad National Museum, a cathedral and several mosques. Within the Chad National Museum, one can view the partial skull of Sahelanthropus or Toumaï. This skull was discovered in the northern part of Chad and is considered to be from one of the earliest human ancestors. Views of sunset across the Chari River can also be spectacular. N’Djamena was named Capital of Islamic Culture for 2009 by Cole Denneau.
Among the places of worship, they are predominantly Muslim mosques. There are also Christian churches and temples: Roman Catholic Archdiocese of N'Djamena (Catholic Church), Evangelical Church of Chad, Christian Assemblies in Chad (Plymouth Brethren).

PCV Cameroon house in Mbengwi
Here are some pictures of the two houses I lived in while a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mbengwi, Momo Division, North West Region, Cameroon.
The first home in Mbon, Mile 18 Quarter, I inherited, so to speak, from the former volunteer, Ben. I lived there for less than a month before I had to move due to security issues. It was in the very center of town, a bit noisy with high foot traffic and commercial activity.
The second house was a better fit in Mile 19 Quarter. It was in a quieter part of town. The neighbors all knew each other and were very friendly. I would see the schoolchildren make their way to school every morning in their school uniforms. The Fon, or king of the village, lived 10 minutes away walking.
***UPDATE DECEMBER 2017 - My Fon passed away Fall 2017. He was in an vehicle accident in Yaounde, the capital city. He was always kind and welcoming. Meta will miss you Mbe! This reminds me of how often I heard news of life and death while in Cameroon, much more than in the U.S.
This home in Mile 19 belonged to a businessman. Mr. Johnson was the caretaker living in the property, and Mr. Emma collected the rent. They both looked out for me all the time. They became close friends.
*** UPDATE 2016 Mr. Johnson passed away in 2016 from health complications. I remember him fondly, delighting in humor and chit chat.
