Takht-i-Akbari, the coronation platform of Mughal emperor Akbar at Kalanaur town district Gurdaspur is in a dilapidated state and depicts the tale of negligence on the part of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the Punjab Tourism Department. The monument has been declared to be of national importance under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (AMASR) Act, 1958, but it seems that the departments concerned are least interested in the maintenance of the protected site.
As per history, the coronation summary of 14-year-old Akbar was performed by Mughal military commander Bairam Khan at Kalanaur (Gurdaspur ) in 1556, soon after the death of his father, Humayun. It is said that when Akbar was coronated at Kalanaur, the town was spread widely and the place was close to the town, but now the platform is away from the main town and is in the fields.
The algae on the walls and the platform is very much visible. No one has been deployed for the security of the protected monument.

The Takhat-i-akbari in Kalanaur, Gurdaspur, has unparalleled historical significance. In the year 1556, this is where the Great Emperor Akbar was crowned. The Takhat-i-Akbari, a wonderfully constructed masonry platform, was the site of the coronation ceremony.
It is well known that Lord Shiva rests in Kalanaur. We met an ice cream vendor here who works directly across from a temple, and he explained to us the history of the building. Ravana was born, in his opinion, during Treta Yuga (Lord Rama's Yuga).
He is a devotee of Lord Shiva, who gave him the golden Lanka. A Ravana disciple persuaded him to bring Lord Shiva to Lanka, and he began to pray to Lord Shiva. day and night and lord Shiva was impressed by Ravana but at that time Lord Rama who is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu was born to end the mayorship of Ravana, Lord Shiva said to Ravana I agree to go with you but I have one condition Ravana says ok lord go on lord Shiva told to Ravana I will go to you with you if u bring me to Lanka with your shoulder Ravana agreed but on the way, Ravana gets some stomach upset and with his Maya, he created a cloud who will bring lord Shiva on his shoulder but the cloud failed to do so lord Shiva said to Ravan you have to go lonely because you have backed from your promise so he rested here.
Here shiv lingam is in a horizontal position. It is the only temple of Shiva in India in which shiv lingam is in a horizontal position. This Shiv lingam is in the Mahabaleshwar temple at Kalanaur.

On sunday morning, we travelled from amritsar bus stand to dera baba nanak then change bus to visit kalanaur shiv temple.
Kalanaur, a historical town in the Indian state of Punjab and district Gurdaspur, where the crowning throne of Mughal Emperor Akbar (अकबर का ताजपोशी तख्त), the Charanchhoh Aasthan of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, Bawa Lal ji's tapasthan (बावा लाल जी के तप अस्थान), is also the holy place of Lord Shiva Shankar. Whose glory is all over the world, due to which Kalanaur is the witness of ancient civilization. The festival of Shivratri is celebrated here with reverence.
A large number of Shiva devotees come here to pay their respects. Known as Kula and Noora, the name of this town was modified to Kalanaur. According to the Shiv Mandir Committee, here in 1388 AD, this temple was also called Mahakaleshwar (महाकालेश्वर मंदिर). The temple built by Raja Sher Singh son of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
When we reached Kalanaur shiv mandir, we loved the beauty of temple. And when we did darshan of चमत्कारी शिवलिंग , the feel was next level in term of spirituality. We explored full temple and took interview of pandit ji to know kalanaur shiv mandir history. Kalanaur is situated on the Pakistan border Gurdaspur Dera Baba Nanak road at a distance of about 26 kilometers in the western direction from Gurdaspur.
The historical temple of Lord Shiva is located here. The coronation of Mughal Emperor Akbar also took place here. During that time Akbar's soldiers were encamped at a deserted place and the horses were also tied at this place.
One day when the stables were taking the horses to the stable through this way and the horse passing through this place would become lame. This was informed to Akbar. After this, when Akbar passed through this place with his horse, his horse also became lame. After all, Akbar ordered that excavation should be done at this place.
While digging, a black stone came out from under the ground, which was ordered to be removed. During this, Akbar was prophesied from there that O Akbar, I am Lord Shiva Shankar himself, if I want to get something, then the excavation should be stopped immediately and my temple should be built here. Akbar built a temple there. Later, when the tyranny of the Mughals was in full swing, this temple was converted into a mosque.
After some time Kharak Singh, son of Maharaja Ranjit Singh came here. Coming in his dream, Bhole Shankar asked for the construction of a beautiful and luxurious temple here. Yuvraj Kharak Singh built a very beautiful temple here. Devotees wait for darshan till 12 midnight

Kalanaur is a small village in Gurdaspur district of Punjab where Akbar's coronation took place. The coronation seat of Akbar is still situated at Kalanaur Gurdaspur and a protected monument by Archeological Survey of India. Kalanaur village is very beautiful village of Punjab.
Kalanaur in Gurdaspur is place of crown jewel of Akbar. At Kalanaur Akbar was crowned the throne by his regent Bairam Khan. From Kalanaur, Akbar launched an attack to take Delhi from King Hemu Hemchandra Vikramaditya. The two armies of Hemu and Akbar met at Panipat Haryana. Hemu's army fought bravely and Hemu's elephants literally crushed Akbar Mughal army. The war was decisively going into Hemu's hands before evening. Seeing considerable loss, Akbar's commanders formed the Arabic formation of encroaching the opposite army commander. Hemu was repeating the historical and typical mistake of leading the army from front and not keeping any reserves.
As Hemu's elephants were rampaging the battlefield so Mughal archers launched their attack from horseback aiming at Hemu.
Then the moment came for Akbar as one archer's bow hit Hemu's eye and he fell uncontrolled in his Hauda(seat at elephant back). The emotional Hindu army lost their moral as they could not see their King leading the army. For Hindus, it was a century old strange idea that if the King is dead then they will assume and admit defeat.
The army of Hemu lost her moral and got totally uncharged. The running mughal army could not believe this as attack was stopped. It was an enough sign for them and they counter attacked and Hindu army lost a winning battle because of their poor strategy. Rest is the history, and Mughal empire was established by Akbar which was further strengthened by his successors.
The sources for description of Second battle of Panipat are various books of history.This state historical mistakes Indian kings did and lost crucial battles against foreigners despite having a large army, strength and valor.
