What are the most hated towns in England? No matter how good a country is, every part of it can’t be loved equally. In fact, some parts of it are bound to be hated. Even the most fanatic lover of a country will love some parts of it less than others. I have heard some people complaining about some towns in England, the home of the Queen that some people are dying to live and work in. That prompts research into the 10 most hated towns in England.
This ranking is based mainly on the comments and complaints of residents of England and visitors to those towns. But it’s not limited to that since some complaints can be completely baseless. We dig deeper in researching these 10 most hated towns in England.
10. Slough
Let’s begin with Slough, a town in Berkshire, within the historic county of Buckinghamshire. This town is 20 miles west of central London and 19 miles northeast of Reading. You will find the town in the Thames Valley and within the London metropolis around the area at the intersection of the M4.
In spite of its location, Slough according to those visitors, is a town whose streets are littered with empty takeaway and full of packets or empty beer cans. This assertion hasn’t been contradicted by even just one resident. The quality of food in the town’s restaurants appears, kind of, made for losers who’re just out to eat as much unhealthy food as they can get away with.
9. Scunthorpe
It’s not desirable to find Scunthorpe among the most hated towns in England. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to take it out of our list because the facts obviously place it there. This industrial town in the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire should normally be the pride of Lincolnshire as its main administrative center. But the town with an estimated population of 82,334 in 2016 had many things going against it.
Residents of the UK’s largest steel processing center, also known as the Industrial Garden Town, are frustrated by a lack of the liveliness and diversity in the town only known for work. However, the loudest grouse that lists Scunthorpe alongside the most hated towns in England is the indiscriminate censorship and blocking of websites for spurious reasons.

Isleworth is a small town of Saxon origin sited within the London Borough of Hounslow in west London, England. It lies immediately east of the town of Hounslow and west of the River Thames and its tributary the River Crane. Isleworth's original area of settlement, alongside the Thames, is known as 'Old Isleworth'. The north-west corner of the town, bordering on Osterley to the north and Lampton to the west, is known as 'Spring Grove'.
Isleworth's former Thames frontage of approximately one mile, excluding that of the Syon estate, was reduced to little over half a mile in 1994 when a borough boundary realignment was effected in order to unite the district of St Margaret's wholly within London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. As a result, most of Isleworth's riverside is that part overlooking the 8.6-acre (3.5 ha) islet of Isleworth Ait: the short-length River Crane flows into the Thames south of the Ait, and its artificial distributary the Duke of Northumberland's River west of the Ait, one of two Colne distributaries constructed for aesthetic reasons in the 1600–1750 period.
The first half of the 20th century for Isleworth generally was characterised by a very substantial amount of artisan and white-collar residential development throughout the town, at the expense of numerous market gardens. The former western area was ceded to the town and parish of Hounslow, which was invested as a civil parish in 1927. This period also included the building of several new factories and offices, mostly towards the north-east, up to the town's eastern boundary with New Brentford. This rapid spread of building transformed the nature of Isleworth's layout in the space of just fifty years, from an agrarian pattern to an urban one.
Isleworth's former Thames frontage of approximately one mile, excluding that of the Syon estate, which is shared with Brentford, was reduced to 0.5 miles (0.80 km) in 1994 when a borough boundary realignment was ordered by the UK's Local Government Minister to add land to the district of St Margarets, Twickenham.
Elevations range from 27 m (89 ft) in the north west to 4.9 m (16 ft) by the Thames at the opposite extreme OD. The boundaries are longstanding, subject to 20th western and southern circonscriptions: Isleworth is east of the town of Hounslow which has more retail and offices, in the borough of that name; west of the River Thames; north of its tributary and the northern confluence of the Crane (before 1998 its southern channel); and south of the crest by the M4 motorway separating the Brent and Crane catchments. Half of the River Crane flows into the Thames south of the Ait, and its distributary the Duke of Northumberland's River flows toward its midpoint from the west.
All Saints' Church, which faces the River Thames at the eastern end of Church Street, is the parish church of Isleworth. It dates from the 14th century and its tower has endured fire and the passage of time to survive to the present day. By the end of the 17th century it was in need of repair and Christopher Wren, who, as well as rebuilding St Paul’s Cathedral, had repaired many London churches, was approached to submit a plan for the building.
The principal road in Isleworth is the London Road (A 315), which broadly follows the route of one of the early roads the Romans constructed in Britannia, namely Tamesis Street, built across the wide heathlands en route to Silchester, from where other roads led to Bath, Winchester and Salisbury. Isleworth has only one rail service. It consists of a loop branch line running off the minor main line service operated by South Western Railway between central London and Reading.

Isleworth Walk: Town Centre【4K】
Located within Greater London, and around five miles west of Fulham and Putney, is the town of Isleworth (pronounced 'EYE-zul-worth' - the 's' is not silent!).
It is speculated that Isleworth has existed as a settlement adjacent to the River Thames for over 4,000 years. Either way, its recorded history goes back to the 7th century. From an Anglo-Saxon charter in the year 695 AD, the settlement is recorded as 'Gislheresuuyrth', meaning 'Enclosure belonging to [a man called] Gīslhere' in Old English. This developed into 'Gistelesworde' by 1086 (from the Domesday Book), then later 'Ystelworth' in 1415 and finally 'Isleworth' from circa 1742.
During the medieval era, Isleworth was a small village on a manorial estate. All Saints' Church, seen around the start of the walk, has a 14th century tower and foundations. The Dissolution of the Monasteries in the 16th century led to the beginnings of Isleworth's development as a wealthy residential area due to the increased private ownership of land. Much of the architecture on Church Street and Lower Square dates from the 18th and early 19th centuries.
The railway arrived in Isleworth in 1850 courtesy of the London and South Western Railway with the construction of the Hounslow Loop Line. To this day, Isleworth Station is a little over half an hour away from Waterloo Station, making it a popular spot for commuters working in central London.
Historically, Isleworth was part of the county of Middlesex. However, in 1965, the ceremonial county of Greater London was formed, effectively swallowing up Middlesex and parts of its neighbouring counties. During that same year, the London Borough of Hounslow formed, to which Isleworth now belongs, replacing the former borough of Heston and Isleworth (from 1894-1965).

Finally made my Old Isleworth Walking Tour to the London Apprentice along the RIver Thames
After so many requests especially for those who are now living outside of London, I finally managed to walk around and do a video around the Old Isleworth. Apologies, it was a bit longer this time because I tried to walk where many have asked me to look around. I hope you enjoy watching this video of Isleworth Town.
The weather is a little bit gloomy but still a fantastic walk. I commenced my walk from the Old Bells Almhouses, this is now called Raybell's Court in Linkfield Road. I then explored the lovely St John's Gardens and went out to St John's Road. I passed the Bridge and looked over the Duke of Northumberland River where the sluice gate to ancient river that starts from Lampton is located.
I carried on to the junction of Twickenham Road and then went down to the Silverhall Park, I crossed the river and managed to pass the Ingrams Almhouses in Mill Platt Road built in 1644.
I then followed the road and came across the Mill Basin where the remains of the old water wheel is located. I then went down to Church Street and pass the historic London Apprentice.
I then continued my walk to the beautiful All Saints Church and visited the site of the Plague Pit where 149 people died during the Great Plague of 1665. I then ended my walking tour to the bank of the River Thames where I pass through the Town Wharf and enjoying the new developments in the area. Isleworth has been a riverside settlement for over 4000 years. Neolithic remains have been found between Syon House and Brentford, and a Roman settlement is known to be situated on the ham in Brentford.

Medieval Isleworth
The Domesday Book 1086 mentions a settlement in Brentford recorded as Gristelesworde in the hundred of Honeslaw. The Hundred of Honeslaw includes the parishes of Isleworth, Heston and Twickenham. There was a priest, 2 Knights and 117 villeins, borders and cottars resident in the village, with two mills and and a fishing weir. There is no record of the time when the first church was built. The tower of the present church is 14th Century.
All Saints Church
There was a religious house in Isleworth under and beside the present Syon House.
This Abbey housed a Swedish order of Bridgettine Nuns who built Syon Abbey.
Tudor Isleworth
In 1539 Henry VIII dissolved the monasteries and the Bridgettine nuns were forced to leave Syon and settle in Flanders.
In 1541 Queen Katherine Howard was imprisoned at Syon for three months. The Royal Barge that took her on the fateful journey to the Tower of London left from Isleworth stairs. King Henry VIII died in 1547 and his body was rested over night at Syon on route from Westminster to Windsor for burial, with a large train of knights and noblemen some four miles long following the hearse. The King had been dead for two weeks and the remains were swollen. The body of Henry rested in the Church which is assumed to be in the Abbey at Syon.
The Isleworth Ferry
The ferry at Isleworth started in the reign of Henry VIII. This crossed the river from the steps in front of All Saints Church and went across the Thames to Old Deer Park.
A second ferry was established in Isleworth towards the end of the reign of
George III. This was situated at Railshead in front of Gordon House and carried pedestrians and carriages to Sheen. This ferry was still operating in my youth (approx 1959) and the Ferry man was Mr Con Dargon.
Life & Death in Isleworth
One 17th Century resident Sir Thomas Ingram came to Isleworth in 1656 and lived in Shrewsbury Place which stood on the site of Lion Wharf. Sir Thomas founded the oldest alms house in Isleworth in 1664 in Mill Plat.
The great plague of 1665 took the life of 149 local residents. A stone in the church yard marks the Plague Pit. Many of the victims in the City of London were shipped out by barge and buried in Isleworth.

I passed through the historic Sermon Almhouses, Gumley School, Isleworth Memorial, St Bridget's Church, South Street, Old Isleworth Town Hall, The Castle Pub, The Swan Inn and a glimpse of the Town Wharf. Walking Tour Around the Old Nazareth House in Isleworth: No commentaries
Walking Tour around the Old Nazareth House Convent now called Fitzroy Gate, a stunning luxury development set within a private, gated, 7 acre estate fronting the River Thames. I started my walking tour from the small roundabout of Isleworth South Street, Richmond Road and Lion Wharf Road. Walked from Richmond Road and pass the footpath leading to the garden and along the River Thames. Have a glimpse of the Herons Place, Isleworth Ait, Bellway Lion Wharf Luxury Development, Town Wharf and back to the roundabout. Enjoy watching!
The Old Nazareth House Convent was established in Richmond Road, Isleworth in West London, England. The imposing building was originally built in 1832 by Edward Blore for King George III's chaplain, Sir William Cooper. The 18th owner of the estate had diverted Richmond Road so that it did not separate the house from the river. The garden led down to the river and the estate had its own burial ground. Purchased by the Sisters of Nazareth in 1892, it became their convent, accommodation for the aged, poor, orphan and destitute children later an old people's home.
