Al Ula is a city in north-western Saudi Arabia. It is famous for Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, Hegra! It is easily accessible by Prince Abdulmajeed bin Abdulaziz Airport. In 2017 the Royal Commission of Al Ula was formed. In just 5 years, Al Ula has completely changed. It is now a hot tourist destination, and for good reason! This place boasts some amazing attractions. If you are planning to visit Al Ula, This video is a must-see. The TOP places you MUST visit are showcased in this Guide to Al Ula.
1. Winter park - This is where you buy tickets for the different tours. The buses start from this place. It has restrooms and a Burger King.
2. Elephant Rock - This magnificent natural stone formation is shaped like an elephant by millions of years of wind and water erosion. It is a must-see! It is open for all visitors from 4pm to 2am, no booking is needed!
3. Al Ula Old Town - This ancient city is quite well preserved. Made from mud-brick and palm trees, this city is now filled with souvenir shops. The outside is open for visitors, but to walk in the ancient houses, you need to book a tour. This town is now empty but the last of its residents didn't leave until as recently as the 1980s.
4. Dedan & Jabal Ikmah – Some hiking is needed, but you are rewarded with some amazing petroglyphs, some ancient script as well as the famed Lion Tombs. The ancient city of Dedan was the capital of the Arabian Kingdom of Dedan, and later the capital of Lihyan as well. Booking is needed.
5. Hegra (Madain Saleh) – It was built 2000 years ago by the Nabateans. These tombs are like those in Petra, Jordan. This site also has a Railway station and a Wagon from the Ottoman period. Booking is required.
6. Al Ula Viewpoint – On top of a mountain, this viewpoint boasts stunning views of not only the city of Al Ula but the surrounding Sandstone Mountains. The best time to visit is at sunset when the landscape is awash with golden light. There are viewing lounges, restrooms as well as telescopes. It is open for visitors at all times, no bookings are needed!

Situated in to the mount Aja, which connects the city of hail through a cross-mountain dividing corridors, Uqdah has many sub-valleys and several dams have been constructed in the area to conserve the rain water for agricultural purpose and to protect the village from flash floods in the rainy season. Among these dams, Uqdah Dam (also known as Dam of Hail or Ramiz Dam) is one of the important and biggest dams. Famous for the twin mountain ranges of 'Aja and Salma, and for being the homeland of historic symbol of curiosity and generosity, Hatim al-Ta`i, Hail is the eighth-largest province by area and the ninth-largest by population. The area is known to have been inhabited since at least the Paleolithic period, with several archaeological sites dating back to 10000 BC to 7500 BC. Several sites with archaeological rock art and other artifacts have been found in the province.
Hatim Tai is the name which comes first in everyone’s mind whenever we talk about Ha’il city. Hail exploration is always considered incomplete without paying a visit to Hatim Tai’s place and grave. This vlog would also be incomplete if I don’t tell you his brief story.
Hatim lived in Tai (present day Hail region of Saudi Arabia) for which he is called Hatim al-Tai and was the ruling prince and poet of the Tai tribe of Arabia. Stories about his extreme generosity have made him an icon among Arabs up until today, as evident in the proverbial phrase more generous than Hatim. He died in 578 AD before the birth of Islam but his son, Adi ibn Hatim, accepted Islam and was a companion of the Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and was also acknowledged for his generosity.
According to legends in various books and stories, he was a famous personality in the region of Ta'i (present day Ha'il) and is also a well-known figure in the rest of the Middle East as well as the Indian subcontinent, featuring in many books, films and TV series in Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Turkish, Hindi and various other languages.
He lived in the sixth century CE and also figures in the Arabian Nights stories. The celebrated Persian poet Saadi, in his work Gulistan (1259 CE) wrote: Hatim Taï no longer exists but his exalted name will remain famous for virtue to eternity. Distribute the tithe of your wealth in alms; for when the husbandman lops off the exuberant branches from the vine, it produces an increase of grapes. He was buried in Tuwarin, Hail after his death in 578 AD and his tomb is described in the Arabian Nights.

Petroglyphs of Saudi - Hail and Jubbah UNESCO in Saudi Arabia
The ancient petroglyphs of northern Saudi Arabia are amazing, and Ha'il and Jubbah hold some of the highest concentrations of rock art in the entire country! With some of the carvings dated at least 10,000 years old, we took the time to explore the Janin Cave near Ha'il and then made our way to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Jubbah Rock Art.
Along standard carvings like camels, we saw rock art depicting cows, lions, hyenas, and more. Plus, there are carvings of people at war, riding horses, and a full, life size deity.
If you're in the Ha'il region of Saudi Arabia, we definitely recommend making the trip to Jubbah!

بجانب المنحوتات القياسية مثل الجمال ، رأينا فنًا صخريًا يصور أبقارًا وأسودًا وضباعًا والمزيد. بالإضافة إلى ذلك ، هناك منحوتات لأشخاص في حالة حرب وركوب خيول وإله بالحجم الطبيعي.
