What are the most hated towns in England? No matter how good a country is, every part of it can’t be loved equally. In fact, some parts of it are bound to be hated. Even the most fanatic lover of a country will love some parts of it less than others. I have heard some people complaining about some towns in England, the home of the Queen that some people are dying to live and work in. That prompts research into the 10 most hated towns in England.
This ranking is based mainly on the comments and complaints of residents of England and visitors to those towns. But it’s not limited to that since some complaints can be completely baseless. We dig deeper in researching these 10 most hated towns in England.
10. Slough
Let’s begin with Slough, a town in Berkshire, within the historic county of Buckinghamshire. This town is 20 miles west of central London and 19 miles northeast of Reading. You will find the town in the Thames Valley and within the London metropolis around the area at the intersection of the M4.
In spite of its location, Slough according to those visitors, is a town whose streets are littered with empty takeaway and full of packets or empty beer cans. This assertion hasn’t been contradicted by even just one resident. The quality of food in the town’s restaurants appears, kind of, made for losers who’re just out to eat as much unhealthy food as they can get away with.
9. Scunthorpe
It’s not desirable to find Scunthorpe among the most hated towns in England. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to take it out of our list because the facts obviously place it there. This industrial town in the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire should normally be the pride of Lincolnshire as its main administrative center. But the town with an estimated population of 82,334 in 2016 had many things going against it.
Residents of the UK’s largest steel processing center, also known as the Industrial Garden Town, are frustrated by a lack of the liveliness and diversity in the town only known for work. However, the loudest grouse that lists Scunthorpe alongside the most hated towns in England is the indiscriminate censorship and blocking of websites for spurious reasons.

West Kirby is a town on the north-west corner of the Wirral Peninsula in Merseyside, England, at the mouth of the River Dee. To the north-east lies Hoylake, to the east Grange and Newton, and to the south-east Caldy.
The old village lay around St. Bridget's Church, but the town today is centred on West Kirby railway station, which is about 1 km away. The town has a Victorian promenade, flanked by the West Kirby Marine Lake that permits boats to sail even at low tide. The original wall was built to create the lake in 1899 but suffered a catastrophic leak in 1985. A new lake was constructed on the site which is wider than previously and allows better sporting opportunities. The Hoylake and West Kirby War Memorial is a notable local landmark, designed in 1922 by the British sculptor Charles Sargeant Jagger, who was responsible for a number of war memorials around the world, including the Royal Artillery Memorial at Hyde Park Corner in London.
West Kirby was a township and parish within the Wirral Hundred. It became part of Hoylake West Kirby civil parish and Hoylake Urban District in 1894. The population was 148 in 1801, 435 in 1851 and 4,542 in 1901. On 1 April 1974, West Kirby was absorbed into the newly created Metropolitan Borough of Wirral as part of local government reorganisation in England and Wales. At that point, West Kirby ceased to be in Cheshire for administrative purposes and became part of the new administrative county of Merseyside.
West Kirby lies at the north-western corner of the Wirral Peninsula. West Kirby is situated on the eastern side of the mouth of the Dee Estuary, and approximately 8 mi (13 km) west of Liverpool. Hilbre Island is approximately 1 mi (1.6 km) offshore from West Kirby, at the mouth of the Dee Estuary. St Bridget's Church is West Kirby's Church of England parish church, and the chancel of the present church dates from around 1320. St Andrew's Church is West Kirby's second Church of England church, originally built as a chapel of ease for St Bridget's, gaining its own parish in 1920. St Agnes' Church is the local Roman Catholic church.[11] West Kirby also has a United Reformed church, which dates to 1890, and a Methodist church which dates to 1904.
The town itself contains Ashton Park and a starting point of the Wirral Way, which follows the trackbed of the former Birkenhead Railway branch line from Hooton. Sandlea Park lies in the centre of the town, a short walk from the railway station. Coronation Gardens is located between the southern end of the promenade between South Parade and Banks Road. There are various other small parks and bowling greens situated around the town. Another popular activity is to walk out to the islands of Little Eye, Middle Eye and Hilbre Island at low tide. The promenade, beach and the walk to the war memorial allow an excellent panoramic view of part of the North Wales coastline.
Grange Road, the main thoroughfare of West Kirby, is situated on the A540 road. The B5141, starting at the Dee Lane junction with Grange Road, joins West Kirby with Caldy via Banks Road, Sandy Lane and Caldy Road. West Kirby railway station is the western terminus of Merseyrail's Wirral line, with return services to Liverpool, Southport, Ormskirk, Liverpool Airport and Chester.

4. Queen’s Park Farmers’ Market

Every year, the museum hosts a wide variety of changing exhibitions, all having a link with the Brent area. 2. Royal Air Force Museum
Though slightly outside the Brent area, a short walk from the borough will take you to the Royal Air Force Museum. One of only two official RAF museums in the country, this is a must-see for any fan of the force or fans of airplanes and flight. Home to a large variety of military and civilian planes, the museum gets you up close and personal with these machines of the sky.
Along with the planes themselves, the RAF museum also takes you through the inception of the force and its involvement in the numerous British conflicts over the past hundred years.

Set on the historic grounds of Headstone Manor, this museum takes visitors back in time with a set of fantastically curated exhibitions showcasing the history of the local area. Built in the 14th century, Headstone Manor is one of the earliest surviving timber buildings in the entire county and one of the most interesting domestic buildings in the country.
Wander around this Grade I listed building and step out of the modern city and into a time long forgotten. Alongside the historic building, Headstone Manor is home to over 14,000 artifacts that tell the story of this ancient home.

Chigwell is a civil parish and town in the Epping Forest district of Essex. Adjacent to the northern boundary of Greater London, it is considered part of the metropolitan area of London and the Greater London Urban Area. It is on the Central line of the London Underground. With Loughton and Buckhurst Hill, it is said to form part of the Essex golden triangle of wealthy places .
The local council of the civil parish is Chigwell Parish Council. The parish council originally existed from 1894 to 1933, and was created again in 1996. The parish council offices are located on Hainault Road. Councillors are elected from three wards: Grange Hill, Chigwell Row and Chigwell Village. Local councillors are also elected to Epping Forest District Council and Essex County Council.
The hamlet of Chigwell Row lies towards the east of Chigwell, near Lambourne; this part of the parish is well forested and mostly rural. Grange Hill is the area around the junction of Manor Road and Fencepiece Road/Hainault Road, extending as far as the boundary with Redbridge including the Limes Farm estate. Chigwell has a population of around 12,500 and is generally considered a wealthy area.
All bus services are Transport for London services, except route X5 and school routes 43, 804. Routes 150 and X5 only serve Chigwell Row. Routes 362 and 462 only serve Grange Hill. Chigwell is served by Chigwell station and Grange Hill station (further south bordering Hainault), both on the Central line of the London Underground. For a more frequent service to London there are also nearby Buckhurst Hill, Woodford, Loughton and Hainault stations as services between Grange Hill and Woodford are limited to three trains per hour in each direction, with an increased service during morning peak hours.

GRANGE'S WELLINGTON TOWER & GRANGE LOOP WALK (Co. Tipperary, Ireland) [2.8K]

This easy 6km loop follows minor road, forestry tracks and woodland trails which gently ascend to a height from which some fine views open up of Kilcooly Abbey (my video 🎥 ► the hills to the east and the bog to the west.
GRANGE'S WELLINGTON TOWER
Grange is a small village in the Slieveardagh Hills on the Tipperary border with County Kilkenny. It lies just east of the magnificent ruin of Kilcooley Abbey which was founded in 1182 and just 10 kilometres from the county Kilkenny hurling powerhouse of Tullaraon. Grange derives its name from it being an out-farm or Gainseach of Kilcooley.
The history of the beautiful tower is also set in world events. The famous Battle of Waterloo took place on Sunday June 18th 1815 at the village of Waterloo just South of Brussels in Belgium. The forces of the French Empire under Napoleon Bonaparte were defeated by those consisting of a coalition of European States including a Prussian army under the command of Gebhard Von Blucher and an Anglo-Allied Army under the command of an Irish born soldier who was a member of the British army namely Athur Wellesey known more commonly as the Duke of Wellington.
It was a decisive battle and of course it was Napoleon’s last. Approximately 47,000 men died or were wounded in the fighting and in Wellington’s own words ‘A damn close run thing’’. The defeat did put an end to Napoleon’s reign and put an end to the Napoleonic Wars. He was soon exiled to the Island of St Helena and died there in 1821.
In Ireland the ruling ascendancy still reeling from the 1798 Rebellion and the landing of French troops in Mayo was particularly uneasy. Therefore the hard fought defeat of Napoleon by The Duke of Wellington a fellow Irishman was greeted with huge relief in the years that followed and a host of monuments such a the Wellington Tower in Grange was built in this case by Sir William Barker.
In the aftermath of the Battle of Waterloo the relieved and grateful residents of several parts of the then United Kingdom of Britain and Ireland resolved to commemorate the victory of the Duke of Wellington. A number of projects to erect monuments were organised. Some were privately funded such as Sir William Barker’s monument on Grange, Crag.
Sir William Barker, the then landlord of Kilcooley Abbey estate organised a large structure to be erected in commemoration of the Duke of Wellington’s victory over Napoleon Bonaparte at the Battle of Waterloo two years previously. The Wellington Monument has a finely carved dedication stone on its 15-foot-high west or ´front end´. The south side is also impressive, but the remaining side of the monument is half the ‘Light’ and clearly shows that the structure was designed to be viewed from the west and from Sir William’s manor house at Kilcooley a mile away.
The monument – technically called a folly, became completely hidden by forestry in latter years and its reappearance in the early 1990’s, following Coillte’s clear felling was a pleasant surprise to all. Much of this area near the tower and the Grange walk loop is cared for the Grange Development Association who judging by the huge number of visitors to the area have it in pristine condition.
Grange of course is not the location for the most famous Wellington monument. This location most definitely falls to the Wellington monument or Wellington Testimonial in the Phoenix Park in Dublin. However The Wellington Monument in Grange is certainly one of the country’s hidden gems.

Great Crag, Grange Fell & King's How. Lake District. 2nd October 2019
A circular walk starting from Rosthwaite , Borrowdale in the Lake District. The walk first heads up to Dock Tarn before reaching Great Crag. From Great Crag we head to Grange Fell and reach the Wainwright Summit of Brund Fell. From Brund Fell we make the short walk to the superb viewpoint of King's How. The views from King's How were superb looking towards Derwent Water and down to Borrowdale. Distance is around 5.5miles.
