Colombia Tourism Ministry created a network of towns that were declared heritage towns of Colombia. These seventeen towns are filled with beautiful Colombian architecture, culture and history. Here is the full list: - Aguadas – Caldas - Barichara – Santander - Ciénaga – Magdalena - El Socorro – Santander - Guadalajara de Buga – Valle del Cauca - Guaduas – Cundinamarca - Honda – Tolima - Jardín – Antioquia - Jericó – Antioquia - La Playa de Belén – Norte de Santander - Monguí – Boyacá - Salamina – Caldas - San Juan de Girón – Santander - Santa Cruz de Lorica – Córdoba - Santa Cruz de Mompós – Bolívar - Santafé de Antioquia – Antioquia - Villa de Leyva – Boyacá In the video I talk about eight of them. The first one is Santa Cruz de Mompós in Bolivar. It was founded in 1537 and is located near the biggest river in Colombia, the Magdalena River. Then, there’s Barichara, located in Santander ant it’s known as the prettiest town in Colombia. In third place is Honda. It was founded in 1539 and it’s a three-hour drive form Bogotá. In fourth place is Jardín, Antioquia. It’s surrounded by hills and it’s a three-hour drive from Medellín (Watch full video about Jardín: Then there is Santafé de Antioquia. Founded in 1541 and one of the most popular towns in Colombia due to its proximity to Medellín, a major Colombian city (Watch full video about Santafé de Antioquia: The next town is Monguí, situated in the Boyacá department. It’s a two to three-hour drive from the capital and has an altitude of 2,900 meters (9,514ft). There you can find the Paramo de Ocetá. In seventh place is Salamina, Caldas. It’s a two-hour drive from Manizales and known as the City of Light because all the artists who were born there. The last town is Villa de Leyva, located in Boyacá. It’s a very famous town because it’s very close to Bogotá (170Km) and has one of the largest plazas in South America.

Sitting in the northeastern area of the Department of Santander is beautiful Bucaramanga. We visited Bucaramanga for ten days and had a chance to see some of the beautifully landscaped parks, as well as some buildings that were designed by some very talented architects. We also had a chance to do some memorable dining at some fine establishments. This city has many affluent areas, and a good percentage of the cars are well over 100K (USD) if that gives you any idea as to the level of wealth that is here. Even though Bucaramanga has a lot of very wealthy people, it's still surprisingly affordable. If you have the opportunity, give Bucaramanga a visit. Hopefully you will enjoy all that it has to offer.

No entendemos por qué este pueblo no tiene mayor afluencia de turistas. Estamos casi seguros que ese día eramos los únicos viajeros visitando este hermoso pueblo. De los pueblos que hemos recorrido, San Juan de Girón se puede estar llevando el premio al mejor conservado. Nos encantaron sus calles, su sobriedad, sin duda alguna una joya de la arquitectura en Santander. Está a a tan solo 30 minutos de Bucaramanga. Es un lugar que no nos podemos perder..
The historic center of Girón is one of many villages of character in the region of Santander in Colombia. It is included in the list of heritage villages in Colombia. Its foundation dates back to the seventeenth century and the old village has retained its historical and colonial appearance of yesteryear. Girón is one of the 4 municipalities that has been encompassed in the metropolitan area of Bucaramanga, and the city has a total population of more than 150,000. The historic center, located in the southern part of Girón, comprises 46 blocks and goes from Malécon de Giron on calle 27 to calle 34 in the north, and almost at the end of calle 28 and 30 to the west . All the rest of the city is largely urbanized with some big buildings and big highways that pass right by. The atmosphere in Girón is therefore not at all the same as in other famous villages of Santander.
If you have a plane to take in Bucaramanga, the historic center of Girón is a stop worth a visit, but it is thought that a few hours are enough to get an idea. From what we've seen, it's mostly a cultural getaway or a hobby for the locals, and the village looks more like an open-air museum than a place to live. is really alive: there is a lot of people and a lot of traffic all around, and a lot of garbage on the ground.
