Gaffney is a town and county seat in Cherokee County, South Carolina and is known as The Peach Capital of South Carolina. This nice town of less than 13,000 people is an hour (SW) from Charlotte, North Carolina. Gaffney is included in the Greenville - Spartanburg - Anderson Area which has a population of almost 1.4 million people.
Gaffney is named after Michael A. Gaffney who was born in Granard , Ireland in 1775 then came to America in 1797. He moved to the area known as Gaffney in 1804 and established a tavern and lodging house that was known as Gaffney's Cross Roads. This become a perfect place for growth because 2 major roads that met there - one from the NC Mountains to Charleston and the other coming from Charlotte to Georgia. Gaffney died before the City was named Gaffney City in 1872.

You drove between Atlanta and Charlotte? You have seen the Peachoid!
The Peachoid is a 135 feet (41 m) tall water tower in Gaffney, South Carolina, U.S.A., that resembles a peach.[1] The water tower holds one million U.S. gallons (3.78541 million litres) of water and is located off Peachoid Road by Interstate 85 between exits 90 and 92 (near the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway). Usually referred to by locals as The Peach and by passing motorists as Mr. Peach or The Moon over Gaffney, the water tank is visible for several miles around these exits.[2]

Gaffney is a city in and the seat of Cherokee County in the Upstate region of South Carolina. Gaffney is known as the Peach Capital of South Carolina. The population was 12,539 at the 2010 census, with an estimated population of 12,609 in 2019 It is the principal city of the Gaffney, South Carolina, Micropolitan Statistical Area (population 55,662 according to 2012 estimates by the U.S. Census Bureau), which includes all of Cherokee County and which is further included in the greater Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson, South Carolina Combined Statistical Area (population 1,384,996 according to year 2012 U.S. Census Bureau estimates).
East Gaffney is a census-designated place. The population was 3,085 at the 2010 United States Census.

The video includes information of HWY. 11 which on the scenic route designated by the state of South Carolina, officially known as the Cherokee Foothills National Scenic Highway, which starts on the north side of Gaffney and then winds through small towns, rural areas, and Mountains, ending in Hartwell Lake State Park near the Georgia Line.
