Places to see in ( Faversham - UK )

Places to see in ( Faversham - UK )

Faversham is a market town and civil parish in the Swale district of Kent, England. The town of Faversham is 48 miles from London and 10 miles from Canterbury and lies next to the Swale, a strip of sea separating mainland Kent from the Isle of Sheppey in the Thames Estuary. Faversham is close to the A2, which follows an ancient British trackway which was used by the Romans and the Anglo-Saxons, and known as Watling Street. The Faversham name is of Latin via Old English origin, meaning the metal-worker's village.

There has been a settlement at Faversham since pre-Roman times, next to the ancient sea port on Faversham Creek, and archaeological evidence has shown a Roman theatre was based in the town. It was inhabited by the Saxons and mentioned in the Domesday book as Favreshant. The town was favoured by King Stephen who established Faversham Abbey, which survived until the Dissolution of the Monasteries in 1538. Subsequently, the town became an important seaport and established itself as a centre for brewing, and the Shepherd Neame Brewery, founded in 1698, remains a significant major employer.

The town was also the centre of the explosives industry between the 17th and early 20th century, before a decline following an accident in 1916 which killed over 100 workers. This coincided with a revival of the shipping industry in the town. Faversham has a number of landmarks, with several historic churches including St Mary of Charity, Faversham Parish Church, the Maison Dieu and Faversham Recreation Ground. Faversham Market has been established for over 900 years and is still based in the town centre. There are good road and rail links, including a Southeastern service to the High Speed 1 line at Ebbsfleet International and London.

Faversham is roughly equidistant between Sittingbourne and Canterbury. It lies 48 miles (77 km) east of London, 18 miles (29 km) east north east of Maidstone and 13 miles (21 km) from Ashford. Nearby villages include Oare across Oare Creek to the north, Luddenham, Mockbeggar and Ospringe. Geographically, Faversham sits at a boundary between marshland to the north and a mixture of brick earth, gravel and chalk to the south which leads into the North Downs.

Arden of Feversham is a play about the murder of Thomas Arden written around 1590, possibly by William Shakespeare or Christopher Marlowe. The Faversham Society was established in 1962, and is one of the oldest Civic Societies in the UK. Faversham Recreation Ground (locally known simply as Faversham Rec) is to the east of the town centre.

Faversham Stone Chapel (in Norton, Buckland and Stone) is the remains of the Church of Our Lady of Elwarton. Although Faversham Abbey was dissolved by Henry VIII the nearby St Mary of Charity, Faversham Parish Church remains, and has been a Grade I listed building since 1950. St Catherine's Church dates from the Norman period and was extensively restored in the 1860s. Faversham Cottage Hospital opened in 1887. It was extended in 1922 and included a World War I memorial, which was unveiled by Vice Admiral Hugh Evan-Thomas. Faversham Cemetery opened in 1898.

Faversham is close to the A2 road, a historically important route from London to Canterbury and the Channel ports. Faversham railway station opened in 1858. A former goods sheet built as part of the original railway works is now Grade I listed.

( Faversham - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Faversham . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Faversham - UK

A day in Faversham in Kent and visiting one of the best pizza places!

The beautiful old worldly market town of Faversham in Kent is the perfect place for a day trip within the English countryside.

Faversham is close to the popular seaside town of Whitstable, on the north Kent coast. It’s the oldest market town in the county and even recorded in the Domesday Book.

We spent the day exploring the beautiful town, starting with Standard Quay’s array of independent businesses including antique and flea markets within the old maritime buildings. The Quay is beside Faversham creek and there’s a lovely walk all along it to Seasalter if you enjoy some rambling.

We were hungry so instead of walking all that way, we decided to head to Papa Bianco for lunch which we would wholeheartedly recommend - the pizza was delicious - maybe the best pizza in Kent!

We then headed up the road to the market square and high street to take in all the old, characterful buildings.

It’s a really beautiful place, and a great day out for a lazy stroll soaking up all the history of this old Kent village.

Best 10 Places To Visit In Kent 2023, England

Best 10 Places To Visit In Kent 2023, England
Often referred to as the Garden of England due to its endless acres of orchards and lush gardens, the county of Kent offers no end of fun things to do for those willing to wander a little further off the beaten track.

Not only is Kent well-known for its relatively mild climate, it also boasts some of England's oldest and most important historic attractions. It was in Kent that the Romans launched their invasion of England some 55 years before the birth of Christ, and where, over 500 years later, the Christian faith was first introduced to the island nation. As a result of these events, you'll often find Roman ruins brushing up against important religious sites, as is the case in the cathedral city of Canterbury.

Kent also boasts some of the most spectacular scenery in England. Visit the east coast of Kent, and you'll see the famous White Cliffs of Dover looking out towards neighboring France, visible in the distance. This same coastline is home to some 50 or more Kentish beaches, most of them easy day trips from London.

FAVERSHAM Kent UK - Faversham Town Centre on Market Day - 4K Walking Tour

Join us for a walk around Faversham, Kent, UK. We explore Faversham town centre on market day.

Faversham is a market town in Kent, England, 48 miles from London and 10 miles from Canterbury, next to the Swale, a strip of sea separating mainland Kent from the Isle of Sheppey in the Thames Estuary.

Faversham Market takes place on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays every week, selling a range of local produce, household items, clothes, trinkets, fresh plants and flowers, fruit and vegetables, collectibles and other interesting bits and pieces. Located in the heart of Faversham’s historic town centre, with it’s stilted Guildhall, town pump and medieval buildings as a backdrop, Faversham Market is the oldest market in Kent.

Faversham is home to Britain's Oldest Brewer - Shepherd Neame, which has been brewing beer since 1698 (however, history suggests that the drink was produced in Faversham for several centuries before that). The Brewery has a Visitors Centre and offers guided tours which include an exciting tasting session.

The Shepherd Neame Brewery, founded in 1698, is a significant major employer. Shepherd Neame is an English independent brewery which has been based in the market town of Faversham, Kent, for over 300 years. While 1698 is the brewery's official established date, town records show that commercial brewing has occurred on the site since 1573. Since the brewery’s formation back in the 16th century, ownership has passed in unbroken succession through five families. The brewery produces a range of cask ales and filtered beers. Production is around 180,000 brewers' barrels a year. It has 320 pubs and hotels in South East England, predominantly in Kent and London. The company exports to 44 countries including India, Sweden, Italy, Brazil and Canada.

Thanks for watching! We hope you enjoy this Faversham walk.

Faversham to Whitstable - Best Kent Walks - Saxon Shore Way

In this walk I return to where Day Tripper really began on the Saxon Shore Way walking 10 miles from Faversham to Whitstable. I walk through Abbey Street past the beautifully preserved old houses and then join the Faversham Creek and out to the sea wall. I do some bird watching on the beach before continuing into Whitstable past the old Oyster Boat and then have fish and chips by the sea trying to stop the seagulls totally swarming me. This is a lovely 4 hour walk which helps blow away the cobwebs and this is around 1 hour on the train from London one of the best Kent walks.

Walk in the hottest day ever Faversham Kent

A walk around the ancient town of Faversham. A market town in the the Heart of Kent. 33 degrees at 10am, it was only going to get hotter.

The Second Kentish Road Trip

Another mini road trip that's also suitable for cyclists, through Kentish Towns & villages, each offering something different.

The route is circular, and we start at Hollingbourne, just off junction 8 of the M20 motorway, but you could choose Faversham off junction 6 of the M2. If you're cycling, there's plenty of options too.

From Hollingbourn we travel a short distance to the Market village of Lenham, with free parking in the old market square. Next, we head on a little further up the A20 to Charing, with its quaint high street, the ruins of an Archbishop's palace and a memorial to Frederick George Coppins VC.

We then head north to the movie set that is Chilham, a beautiful hillside village that takes you back in time, before we head on to the historic Faversham, that will make a great base if you want to do this at a slower pace. From the bustle of Faversham, we take you to the peace of Oare, and Oare marshes where you can pick up the Saxon Shore Way. Our final stop takes us on to Newnham, a quaint little village, with its country pub, before we return to Hollinbourne. A journey of around 40miles/65kms that will be a full day, but enjoyable
