Albania – This Balkan Country Will SURPRISE You! (Road Trip) 🇦🇱

Travel Documentary Albania. 🇦🇱 Would you go there? Albania is a mysterious country, one of the last spots in Europe, which is not yet overrun by mass tourism. In our travel documentary we bring you closer to this almost forgotten, unique country as we take you on a road trip through whole Albania.

And in our travel vlog we do not only show you the bright side of Albania as a holiday destination (from a tourist perspective) but also tell you some interesting truths about the country.

If you have questions in mind like: How is Albania? Is it beautiful? Is it safe? How are the roads? How are the people? What's a good one week road trip itinerary? – They will certainly be answered!

INCREDIBLE SOUTHERN ALBANIA ROADTRIP! *PART 1* (Permet & Korca)

Renting a car in Albania is the best way to discover what this beautiful country has to offer! Distances are not long and you can literally be enjoying the beach one day, and go rafting in the mountains the next day.

Another reason why an Albanian roadtrip is a great idea is because there's not much to do in the little towns, so spending two nights at each is the perfect way to see a lot in little time and have all kinds of different experiences. Trust us, you will not be bored!

And don't forget that the bus system in Albania still has a long way to go, so better to have your own private transportation if your budget allows!

Some Helpful Information:
Përmet is a city and municipality in Gjirokastër County, southern Albania. The total population is 10,614 (2011 census) in a total area of 602.47 km2. Sotira Waterfall, Gramsh - 🇦🇱 Albania @MTravelVlog

The Sotira River, created by the waterfall, flows throughout the surrounding forest, giving the already awe-inspiring panorama the perfect frame. With the right pair of shoes, you may even be able to get closer to the waterfall. A path has been created throughout the years to maximize the whole experience. Walk with care as the terrain can be a tad slippery!

The trip is fairly simple, following the Gramsh–Sotira Village–Waterfall itinerary. As you exit the town of Gramsh, follow the blue road signs showing the direction of the Sotira Waterfall. Once you arrive in the Sotira village, get ready to hike along the only road that is visible. If you have a 4X4, you may choose to use drive there. Otherwise, park your car in the village. There you can grab something to eat or drink at the small village diner/shop, and begin your hike. We would suggest bringing some food along for the hike. By doing so you can enjoy an idyllic picnic with a spectacular view in the meadow by the waterfall. Length of Hike: about 6 kilometers.

Albania: our first BIG Road Trip in February. Freezing cold hotels and breathtaking nature

WATCH NEXT: Daily life in Tirana, capital of Albania 👉
More videos from Albania 👉

Albania is a country in South-Eastern Europe with a communist past. We spent 2 weeks in March on a roadtrip around Albania, visited 7 cities: Tirana, Durres, Vlore, Saranda, Gjirokaster, Korce, Pogradec and Kruje. In March weather in Albania was good, a lot of sunshine and no rain. Although in hotels quite often it was cold inside, the ACs did not give enough heat. The roads in Albania were mostly safe and good. With the exception of Girokaster to Pogradec part, from there the roads became more narrow and sometimes it was gravel road. But all along Albanian Riviera (seaside) the road is safe.

Kanioni i Virkës - Ersekë

Mali i Gramozit, Çuka e Peçit, Ersekë. Albania

Gramos is a mountain range on the border of Albania and Greece. The mountain is part of the northern Pindus mountain range. Its highest peak, at the border of Albania and Greece, is 2,520 m. The region is inhabited by Albanians, Aromanians and Greeks.

ALBANIA - Travel Guide | Around The World

Albania (Albanian: Shqipëria) is a small country in the Balkans. It shares borders with Greece, the Republic of Macedonia, Kosovo, and Montenegro.

While most people in Albania are Muslims, there are also many large religious minorities. As in other western states, the idea of religious tolerance is so normal as to be completely uninteresting, differences of ideology will more often be political.

Traditional Albanian culture honors the role and person of the guest. In return for this place of honor, respect is expected from the guest. Albanians enjoy long walks in the city streets, drinking coffee and, among the younger generations, participating in nightlife activities such as cafe lounging and dancing.

Cities :

Tirana (Tiranë) — the capital. Trees and mountains surround the city. Mount Dajt is a popular tourist site with a great view of the city.
Berat — Thought to be one of the oldest towns in Albania, it is a new member of the UNESCO World Heritage List. Berat has long been known as the city of 1001 windows because of its unique Ottoman/Albanian architecture. It has a well-preserved castle with residents still living inside its protective walls.
Gjirokastër — Another UNESCO city located in the south and known for its unique Ottoman period architecture. There is a large castle on the hill in the middle of the city which served as a jail for many generations. A military museum and art gallery are now located inside. Gjirokastër is also the birthplace of former communist leader Enver Hoxha and Albania's most internationally famous author, Ismail Kadare. Their homes now serve as museums.
Korce (Korça) — Located in southeast Albania, several miles from the Greek border, this city is full of life during the summer, when you can find couples and families strolling through the city's main park, Parku Rinia. You can hike to the top of the beautiful mountain Moravia and view the city and its surrounding landscape. Don't miss the Korca Brewery, famous throughout Albania, which sponsors a week-long beer festival every August. Also see the old houses and the Bazaar dating in the late 15th century and burned 3 times. most of the buildings are rebuilt in the 19th and 20th century.
Kruje (Krujë) — Ancient city of the national hero Skanderbeg, Kruje consists of beautiful mountains. Skanderbeg's castle is now a museum. Kruje also contains an old style bazaar with shops selling traditional goods amid cobblestone streets.
Pogradec — Although overshadowed by its glitzy neighbors on the Macedonian side of the lake, the town of Pogradec has been experiencing a revival recently.
Sarandë — A city in southern Albania known for its unforgettable beaches and colorful spring blooms
Shkodra — The biggest town in northern Albania. The Migjeni theater is located here. The first cycling race and the first football match in Albania were held here, and the first photograph was developed here (by Marubi). The Rozafa Castle is a major tourist attraction here, as is The Great Cathedral, the Ebu Beker Mosque, etc.
Vlorë — A lively seaside city with nice beaches in the southern part of the town. Passenger ferries to and from Italy dock here.
Erseke (Erseke) — A city hidden within the Gramozi Mountain range, Erseke is located in the southeast region of Albania. It surrounding natural beauty is what separates it from the other city, while also having old Albanian villages surrounding it.
Librazhd (Librazhd)- A small town, but with a beautiful countryside. 'The Red Mountains' is an attraction for every tourist. It is a UNESCO heritage in tentative. there are located beautiful villages such as Stebleva with 200-year old houses.A very funny way to go to Librazhd is by train from Elbasan.

Restaurants are very easy to find. Albania, like the Balkans in general, has a primarily Turkish influence in its cuisine. This influence stems from over 400 years of Ottoman rule in the region. Recent influences after the fall of communism in the early 1990's have been from Italy and Western Europe in general. Most of what is available in neighbouring countries such as Greece and Italy will be available in Albania, particularly in the larger cities.

The preferred alcoholic hard drink is raki that is locally produced in small towns as well as in many homes in the countryside; in some instances you may run across men washing down breakfast with a few shots. Try the mulberry rakia - Albanians are the only people in the world that produce this drink with mulberry and plum, and its very delicious, especially around Gjirokaster. Outside the big cities, hotels are less common, but in places like Gjirokastra can be excellent value (eg ALL1000).There is a great opportunity to experience local traditions, hospitality and cuisine by staying at one of the guesthouses in the North. Albanians are very hospitable. Even more so than in the rest of the Balkans, elder males expect to be shown respect on account of their age.

Hiking in Albania | Morava Mountain | Korçë, Albania

Bye Bye Korçë | Hiking in Albania | Morava Mountain

Hellooooo Beautiful People!

We finally went on a hike to the Morava Mountain and the Mountain cross we were talking about for ages to say goodbye to Korca.
We loved our time in this city and are truly emotional to leave but the journey must continue...

Morava is a place of cultural heritage and tradition. A big white cross, Morava’s symbol, is located at the edge of a cliff here. It serves as a guide for believers, and a landmark for mountain climbers. Near the Cross, you’ll find the superjacent Church of St. Elias with its breathtaking view of the horizon. From here, you can gaze into the city of Korça below.

From here we are going to make our way to Tirana for 2 nights to honour the beginning of this wonderful journey trough stunning Albania and hopefully get the chance to create a proper goodbye Albania where it all began.

We are beginning the next leg of our trip! We are headed to MEXICO for the 8th of October :D

We will be back to Albania and Korçë.. this is for certain!
