#castles #history #Leicester
I recently attempted to visit 4 Leicestershire castles in one day, why? because as I was looking on the map at directions for one of them I noticed the others were not too far apart, so I thought 'why not, what have I got to lose'

Hollycroft, Middlefield, and Wykin are suburbs of Hinckley. Burbage is often thought to be a suburb of Hinckley but is in fact separate. It is a large village merging with Hinckley to the south, separated by the railway line. Sketchley is another small village which has merged into Burbage.

GREAT BRITAIN Shilton & Taynton, Oxfordshire (9 Oct 2022)
In September and October 2022 we visited England and Wales. Join us on our trips, day by day.
Shilton is a village and civil parish about 2.4 km northwest of Carterton, Oxfordshire. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 626.
Shilton village is on Shill Brook: a stream that rises southwest of Burford, flows through Shilton and Alvescot to Black Bourton, where it becomes Black Bourton Brook, which joins the River Thames downstream from Radcot. Shilton was historically part of the manor of Great Faringdon, and most of Shilton parish was an exclave of Berkshire until the Counties (Detached Parts) Act 1844 transferred it to Oxfordshire.
Taynton is a village and civil parish about 2.4 km northwest of Burford in West Oxfordshire. The village is on Coombe Brook, a tributary of the River Windrush. The parish is bounded in the south by the River Windrush, in the north partly by Coombe Brook and its tributary Hazelden Brook, in the west by the county boundary with Gloucestershire and in the east by field boundaries. Shepshed Walk: Town Centre【4K】
Located in the county of Leicestershire, and around 12 miles northwest of Leicester, is the town of Shepshed.
The name 'Shepshed' is believed to derive from 'hill where sheep graze'. The early development of the town was centred around the wool trade.
Situated at the heart of the town is St Botolph's Church. This dates back to the 11th century in origin, although the oldest surviving parts are the west tower and spire from the 13th century. There was also once a Cistercian monastery located between Shepshed and Loughborough. It was known as Garendon Abbey and was founded in 1133, and dissolved in 1536 during the Reformation.
Up until the 19th century, domestic framework knitting was a significant source of employment in Shepshed. At its peak there were over 1,000 frames in operation. However, this cottage industry ultimately declined with the emergence of textile factories, particularly in nearby Leicester.
In 1883 a railway station opened in Shepshed as part of the Charnwood Forest Railway. This was a branch line between Coalville and Loughborough. It was short-lived, however, as the station closed in 1931. Today, public transport to Shepshed consists of direct bus services from Leicester, Loughborough and Coalville among other locations.

Around Oadby Parade
Around Oadby Parade.
I made this video really to test a camera I'd just bought. A Canon PowerShot SX700 HS. I was interested in it because apparently it takes quite good quality video. It's certainly better quality video than my Sony Handycam. So it looks like the Canon will now be the one to use on my walk-about videos.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy these clips that I took around The Parade, in Oadby. They were taken on different days.
