Colico
Italian town
Colico is an Italian town of 7 960 inhabitants in the province of Lecco in Lombardy. However, the locality is historically linked to the province of Como, so much so that it belongs to the Larian diocese.
History
Given the position straddling two valleys (Valtellina and Valchiavenna) and Lake Como since ancient times, the Colico area must have been the center of a flourishing settlement of inhabitants.
To testify this fact remain the numerous cupelliform boulders existing in the plaga, the most interesting of which is the stone called COMBALLO (the boat) which is located in the Garavina gorge west of the border between the municipality of Colico and that of Dorio, in proximity of the provincial road. The comballo is a boat-shaped stone with hundreds of cupelliform engravings of various sizes and shapes.
Similarly, dark stone and copper and bronze artifacts (axes, daggers and swords) have been found in the territory. Some of these finds are found in the Museo di Como e del Paradiso in Chiavenna. These objects testify to us that in Colico there was a population dedicated to pastoralism, agriculture, trade and fishing.
The first settlements of Colico in the Neolithic age left traces on Montecchio Nord, where copper was mined.

Colico si trova sul punto d'incontro di strade, come la SS 36 del Lago di Como e dello Spluga, che collega Milano e la Brianza con il Lario e la Valchiavenna, e la SS 38 dello Stelvio.
La cittadina è una località lacustre di villeggiatura con buone strutture ricettive ed è molto frequentata durante la stagione estiva; rappresenta il centro più importante dell'Alto Lario.

Colico è caratterizzata da due forti, il Forte Montecchio Nord, la fortezza della Prima Guerra Mondiale meglio conservata in Europa, il Forte di Fuentes, uno dei pochi esempi ancora esistenti della dominazione spagnola sul territorio.
Da Colico è possibile raggiungere l'Abbazia di Piona, raro gioiello dell'architettura romanica lombarda, e la Torre di Fontanedo, una torre medievale costruita in passato per proteggere il territorio.
🛶 Colico è il luogo ideale per praticare sport acquatici di diverso tipo come windsurf, vela, kitesurf, ma anche flyboard, canoa e stand up paddle.
🚲 La città è anche punto di partenza di piste ciclabili verso Valtellina, Valchiavenna e la sponda occidentale del lago.
🦶 Nel centro storico è possibile scoprire diversi itinerari alla scoperta delle Chiese, degli antichi Molini e i luoghi legati alla vita di Suor Maria Laura Mainetti.
