Britain's Best Breaks ~ West Yorkshire

West Yorkshire has the best of all worlds when you're planning a break. This is an invigorating landscape where you'll find all the peace and beauty that goes into making a break truly memorable. The Bradford district alone covers an outstanding area of 143 square miles - and this isn't all urban sprawl or industry - 60% of those 143 square miles forms some of the most beautiful open green spaces in the UK. For instance, here you have the Wharfedale and Airedale Valleys and the rugged Pennine Moors, and throughout these areas you'll find all the heritage you need with a staggering 4,400 listed buildings.

A Guide To: The Upper Dearne Valley, The Yorkshire Pennines

We follow the upper reaches of the river Dearne from its rise in the Pennines down to the M1 - about half its 32 mile course.

The video, will detailed informative commentary, uses 4k footage of the route and visits the Quaker hamlet of High Flatts, passes through Birdsedge and then drops down to Upper Cumberworth. At Denby Dale there is the history of the viaduct and the celebratory pies.

Passing through Scissett and both the upper and lower parts of Clayton West, we take a ride on the Kirklees Light Railway.

The route ends at West Bretton and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

Gawthorpe Hall & Grounds (Burnley, Lancashire,UK,)

Had a nice morning at Gawthorpe hall, it is owned by the National Trust and

we were slightly disappointed that we couldn't look round the house till 1pm
when they opened the doors, we arrived early so we looked round the grounds which were very nice but we didn't find one bench to sit on ! , we visit a lot of National Trust places and most have plenty of places to sit and take in the beauty, ( disappointing !)

Walking Through an ENGLISH VILLAGE | Newton-in-Bowland (Forest of Bowland)

Join me on a village tour of Newton-on-Bowland in the Forest of Bowland AONB - Little England at its best! The vlog is a complete walk through of a fairly typical village in Northern England.
🇬🇧 See more of my UK videos here →

Having spent the day exploring the Forest of Bowland I wanted to see what a tiny village in Little England looked like, so I stopped to capture a few minutes of video and take a couple of photographs in Newton-in-Bowland. I somehow ended up recording a whole video of me walking through the village - from one end to the other.

It’s not my usual style of video but I thought it would be a great way to see what a tiny English village in the Forest of Bowland looks like. I walked past the village church, town hall, a memorial garden and monument, and plenty of stone houses along the main street. Hopefully you enjoy my walk through a fairly typical English village as much as I did.

What the duck? Duck lanes on congested canal paths - Daily Mail

City ducks in London, Birmingham and Manchester are getting their own 'Duck Lane' to promote their safety alongside waterways. The lanes are marked with a special spray-painted duck and the quirky initiative is being installed by Canal & River Trust alongside numerous walkways.

TORQUAY TO STARCROSS DRIVE VIA A379. | Babbacombe, Dawlish, Shaldon coastal drive

TORQUAY TO STARCROSS DRIVE VIA A379. | Babbacombe, Dawlish, Shaldon coastal drive

We drive along the English Riviera coast along the A379 on a beautiful Devon day. We drive through Babbacombe, Shaldon, Dawlish and then end the drive at Starcross.

With the U.K. going into lockdown from midnight, the roads were exceptionally busy. Everyone was out and about getting their stuff done and this caused more traffic than usual. Sadly due to crazy traffic around the Teignmouth junction I never managed to end the drive with a sunset drive through Shaldon.

I uploaded it in the highest quality that I could do and this video took the best part of 1 full day to upload. I hope you enjoy it :)

St. Mary’s Primary School Tackles Single Use Plastic Pollution

After a meeting with MP Sara Britcliffe and captain of industry Tony Grimshaw OBE, pupils from St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Primary School, Clayton-le-Moors, are again leading the way in recycling single use plastics.

The pupils of St Mary’s RC Primary School in Clayton-le-Moors are an inspirational group of children. They have been teaching the world how to give plastic a second life by making ecobricks. Ecobricks are plastic bottles stuffed tight with single use plastic.

The year three children have made enough ecobricks to construct an entire classroom. MP for Hyndburn Sara Britcliffe and responsible plastic housewares manufacturer Tony Grimshaw OBE (Director of What More UK) were invited to visit the school to see the latest project.

OXENHOPE: Bradford Parish #5 of 20

BRADFORD PARISH #5: OXENHOPE

Today in Bradford we’re in Bronte country again. This is the parish of Oxenhope which lies just to the South of Haworth. It has minor links to the Bronte family, but here its all about the railway

And when I say that, I mean it, because without the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway which we met in Haworth, Oxenhope wouldn’t exist, or at least not in the same form we know it today

Oxenhope derives from the Old English word “hop” which means valley head, so this is literally Oxen Valley Head. Like many places in Bradford, it was heavily industrialised in the 19th century

The modern village encompasses what was originally a collection of separate, smaller settlements - Uppertown, Lowertown, Leeming, Horkinstone, Marsh and Shaw

The area only became known as Oxenhope when the railway company named Oxenhope station in 1867. It referred to a small settlement between Marsh and Haworth

Originally the railway was designed to terminate at Haworth but thanks to the owners of Lowertown Mill, it was extended. This decision would greatly alter the street pattern of the village

Above the main village in Leeming is a huge reservoir, not built to supply water to Keighley, but rather to power the mills – and Oxenhope has had plenty of those in its time

In short, its famed for mills, railways and even a straw race – this is Oxenhope!
