Morii Lake and Morii Island. - Bucharest Romania - ECTV
Lacul Morii (Mill Lake) is the largest lake in Chiajna,[1] with an area of 246 ha (610 acres).[2] The lake is approximately 6 km (3.7 mi) from the center of Bucharest (Piața Unirii) and is located between the Polytechnic University of Bucharest neighborhood to the east, the Crângași and Giulești districts to the north, the Militari district to the south and the village Roșu [ro] to the west.
The lake is a reservoir, made in 1986 mainly to protect the city against floods.[3] It is also a recreation area.[1] Lacul Morii provides a constant flow to the Dâmboviţa river in the city. The lake was built by a dam 15 m (49 ft) high, with a central body of concrete, and earth dams extended lengthwise with a total length of 7 km (4.3 mi). The lake's volume is 14.7×106 m3 (1.92×107 cu yd), with a flood mitigation portion of 1.6×106 m3 (2.1×106 cu yd) beyond the normal retention. Effectively, to mitigate flooding, the lake's volume can be increased when floods are predicted. Making a lake near an urban area required decommissioning of existing uses, including demolition and decommissioning of a church.[4]
On the south of Lacul Morii there is a peninsula.
Bucharest is the capital of Romania, the most populous city and the most important industrial and commercial center of the country. The stable population of 1,883,425 inhabitants (2011[6]) makes Bucharest among the major cities in the European Union. According to estimates that take into account people without home in the city, or in transit, Bucharest gathers over three million people daily. [7] Added to this is the fact that the localities near the city, which are part of the Metropolitan Area, have a population of about 430,000 inhabitants. [8]
The first mention of the locality appears in 1459, during the second reign of Vlad the Impaler. In 1862 it became the capital of the United Principalities. Since then, it has undergone continuous changes, becoming the center of the Romanian artistic, cultural and mass-media scene. His elegant architecture and urban atmosphere brought him the nickname Little Paris to the Belle Époque. [9] Although the buildings and neighborhoods of the historic center were damaged or destroyed by war, earthquakes, and even Nicolae Ceaușescu's systematization program, many survived. After 2000, the city experienced an economic and cultural boom. [10]
According to the 2011 census, 1,883,425 inhabitants live within the city limits,[11] fewer than the figure recorded in the 2002 census. [12] By adding satellite cities around the urban area, the proposed Bucharest metropolitan area would have a population of 2.42 million. [13] According to unofficial data, the population is over 3 million. [14]
From an economic point of view, Bucharest is the most prosperous city in Romania,[15] and is one of the main industrial centers and transport hubs in Eastern Europe. e city has facilities for conventions, educational institutions, cultural areas, shopping centers, and recreational areas.
The city is managed by the Bucharest City Hall, has the same administrative level as the counties of Romania and is divided into six sectors.

Bucharest was first mentioned in documents in 1459. It became the capital of Romania in 1862 and is the centre of Romanian media, culture, and art. Its architecture is a mix of historical (mostly Eclectic, but also Neoclassical and Art Nouveau), interbellum (Bauhaus, Art Deco and Romanian Revival architecture), socialist era and modern. In the period between the two World Wars, the city's elegant architecture and the sophistication of its elite earned Bucharest the nickname of 'Paris of the East' (Romanian: Parisul Estului) or 'Little Paris'. Although buildings and districts in the historic city centre were heavily damaged or destroyed by war, earthquakes, and even Nicolae Ceaușescu's program of systematization, many survived and have been renovated. In recent years, the city has been experiencing an economic and cultural boom. It is one of the fastest-growing high-tech cities in Europe, according to the Financial Times, CBRE, TechCrunch, and others. UiPath, a global startup founded in Bucharest, has reached over $35 billion in valuation. Since 2019, Bucharest hosts the largest high tech summit in Southeast Europe (Romania Blockchain Summit).
In 2016, the historical city centre was listed as 'endangered' by the World Monuments Watch. In 2017, Bucharest was the European city with the highest growth of tourists who stay over night, according to the Mastercard Global Index of Urban Destinations. As for the past two consecutive years, 2018 and 2019, Bucharest ranked as the European destination with the highest potential for development according to the same study.
According to the 2011 census, 1,883,425 inhabitants live within the city limits. Adding the satellite towns around the urban area, the proposed metropolitan area of Bucharest would have a population of 2.27 million people. In 2020, the government used 2.5 million people as the basis for pandemic reports. Bucharest is the fourth largest city in the European Union by population within city limits, after Berlin, Madrid, and Rome, just ahead of Paris.
Economically, Bucharest is the most prosperous city in Romania. The city has a number of large convention facilities, educational institutes, cultural venues, traditional 'shopping arcades' and recreational areas.
The Romanian name București has an unverified origin. Tradition connects the founding of Bucharest with the name of Bucur, who was a prince, an outlaw, a fisherman, a shepherd or a hunter, according to different legends. In Romanian, the word stem bucurie means 'joy' ('happiness'), and it is believed to be of Dacian origin, hence the city Bucharest means 'city of joy'.
Bucharest's crime rate is rather low in comparison to other European capital cities, with the number of total offences declining by 51% between 2000 and 2004, and by 7% between 2012 and 2013. The violent crime rate in Bucharest remains very low, with 11 murders and 983 other violent offences taking place in 2007. Although violent crimes fell by 13% in 2013 compared to 2012, 19 murders (18 of which the suspects were arrested) were recorded.
Although in the 2000s, a number of police crackdowns on organised crime gangs occurred, such as the Cămătaru clan, organised crime generally has little impact on public life. Petty crime, however, is more common, particularly in the form of pickpocketing, which occurs mainly on the city's public transport network. Confidence tricks were common in the 1990s, especially in regards to tourists, but the frequency of these incidents has since declined. However, in general, theft was reduced by 13.6% in 2013 compared to 2012. Levels of crime are higher in the southern districts of the city, particularly in Ferentari, a socially disadvantaged area.

Vlad the Impaler's Monastery
#shorts #youtubeshorts
Vlad the Impaler's Monastery
In this #shortvideo we will visit Dracula's Monastery from Romania.
Snagov Monastery or Vlad the Impaler's Monastery is an important historical and feudal art monument in Wallachia, located on the island in the northern part of the Snagov Lake, in the locality of Snagov and near the village of Siliștea Snagovului (from Gruiu commune). The monastery is probably one of the late reigns of Mircea the Elder, being first documented in 1408. It was rebuilt several times by other rulers, including Vlad Tepes, Mircea Ciobanul and Neagoe Basarab. Today only the church, a tower and a fountain are still visible.
Tomb of Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler)
The monastery is also famous because of the alleged burial of Vlad the Impaler inside it. This is the belief of the locals, to which the opinions of specialists have been added: Alexandru Odobescu (see A few hours at Snagov) and Nicolae Iorga. According to the legend, after Vlad the Impaler passed away, following the battle with the Turks in 1476, who had supported Dănești in obtaining the throne of Wallachia, the monks of the monastery would have found and hidden the body of the ruler, or would have buried him in a Christian burial after the waters had cleared. The burial would have taken place in secret and without any pomp because of the new ruler installed by the Turks, who was from the Dane family.
The hypothesis has of course been investigated, but the truth cannot yet be established with any precision.
The tomb in front of the altar, investigated by the archaeologist Dinu Roestti in 1933-1934 [3], contained nothing relevant. However, another coffin was found with a clothed body accompanied by several objects - specific to a ruler. However, those found and deposited in the history museum in Bucharest disappeared before a rigorous re-analysis.
