If the 4 nations making the kingdom are ranked in order of popularity, we could go like England, Scotland, and, Wales. That’s why many people don’t have an idea of what living in Northern Ireland, the fourth province of the UK is. This time, we want to discuss the 10 best places to live in Northern Ireland.
This will prove that the part of Ireland that remained in the UK since 1921 is not faring badly at all. Please enjoy the discussion about the best places to live in Northern Ireland.
10. Newtownards
Newtownards is a town, townland, and civil parish in County Down. It’s not far from Strangford Lough, another one of the best places to live in Northern Ireland that would be discussed later. Newtownards is at the northernmost tip of Strangford Lough. It is also 10 miles east of Belfast on the Ards Peninsula.
When Newtownards hit the headline on July 17, 2021, it was about the townland of Ballywatticock toward Mount Stewart, where temperature peaked 31.2 °C at 15:40. Besides that, it has a very low crime rate. The town has a lot of beautiful spots that can add colors to the quality of life. Places such as Movilla Abbey, Somme Heritage Center, and Mount Stewart attract people to this town. The town’s residents are also entertained by sporting activities such as rugby, cricket, football, and motor racing. It is one of the best places to live in Northern Ireland.
9. Fermanagh
Ireland's Lakeland County of Fermanagh is the next of the 10 best places to live in Northern Ireland. It’s one of the six counties of the region, bordering the Republic. The county is renowned for its boating and fishing. Once a legendary dry plain, Fermanagh was believed to have magic well at its center with widely held tales of two lovers. Of course, the story around it makes the county. The lakes of Lough Erne stretching through 50 miles over the county were believed to result from bubbles from the water.
If you live in Fermanagh, you’ll be living in the roots of some famous people, including writer Rudyard Kipling and former U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton and Ulysses Grant. Enniskillen, which we shall talk about later, is the county town of Fermanagh. You don’t generally hear about crime here and the cozy place has enough amenities.

Let’s next consider Ballycastle, a small seaside town in County Antrim. Deriving its name from the Irish expression “Baile an Chaistil,” the “town of the castle” is on the north-easternmost coastal tip of the region of the United Kingdom. Its harbor plays host to the ferry to Rathlin Island quite visible from the coast.

Lisburn is a city in Northern Ireland. It is 8 mi southwest of Belfast city centre, on the River Lagan, which forms the boundary between County Antrim and County Down. Lisburn is part of the Belfast Metropolitan Area.
Formerly a borough, Lisburn was granted city status in 2002 as part of Queen Elizabeth II's Golden jubilee celebrations. It is the third-largest city in Northern Ireland. Lisburn is one of the constituent cities that make up the Dublin-Belfast corridor region which has a population of just under 3 million.
The north and south divide in Lisburn can be seen either side of the railway line that goes through the centre of the city. North Lisburn is home to many of the residential neighbourhoods, and contains the notable landmarks of the Theipval Barracks, and the Laurelhill Sportszone.
Lisburn is notable for its large number of churches, with 132 churches listed in the Lisburn City Council area. One of two cathedrals in the Church of Ireland Diocese of Connor is in Lisburn, Christ Church Cathedral.
Lisburn railway station was opened on 12 August 1839. The railway remains a popular means of transport between Lisburn and Belfast, with the express trains taking 10–15 minutes to reach Belfast's Great Victoria Street. The Lagan Canal passes through Lisburn. This connected the port of Belfast to Lough Neagh, reaching Lisburn in 1763 (although the full route to Lough Neagh was not complete until 1793). Lisburn has become one of the main towns/cities in Northern Ireland for shopping. Bow Street Mall, on Bow Street, houses over 70 stores, many eateries (including a food court) and a multi-storey car park with over 1000 spaces.

Christmas in Lisburn County Antrim - Things to do in Lisburn
Lisburn is a city in Northern Ireland that is located southwest of Belfast city centre on the River Lagan, so as a city it might be a famous place near Belfast that tourists could head to and check, but what about spending Christmas in Lisburn?
We believe that Christmas and New Year's Eve are usually the most glamorous days of the year; they really turn the streets into a glowing thing with all the lights and decorations that are placed there. Walking through the streets with these decorations turns into some kind of a hobby for some people - us included - and thus we decided to visit some cities in Ireland and Northern Ireland to see what they have to offer for us.
We have been to Lisburn to see what have been done to its streets, shops, and shopping centers for Christmas. At the beginning of the journey in this city, we headed to the Bow Street Mall and we should say that it was a good kind of experience because of the way they decorated the mall from the inside by mixing the Christmas theme with winter - so you will find those dogs that are responsible for strolling down Santa, there are those glowing balls which are decorating the place, and there is even Santa hanged on top in an air balloon - we actually fell in love with the atmosphere of the place as a whole.
This was the thing that highlighted the visit to Lisburn city in Northern Ireland in addition to the streets that we managed to walk through and which were also a little bit decorated with those Christmas lights and decorations. We wanted to make our trip to this city a little bit different, so we decided to head to a bowling center and play bowling for a change, so we chose Lisburn Bowl and headed there.
Walking through the streets of the city will depend on where you are because you might come across Santa waiting for you outside a specific restaurant or cafe asking you to come inside and you might pass by another one which is not decorating the place in the same kind of way.
One will never get the feeling of Christmas without the Christmas tree - will always be better with some gifts left under it as well :-) - so it always feels different when one comes across such kind of tree in the street and even if you have seen it million times the years before with the same way of decoration, you will still decide to take a couple of photos beside it - we all do the same everywhere.
From those other cities which Connolly Cove decided to visit in Northern Ireland and Ireland are the capitals; Belfast and Dublin, and we believe that being the capital city is one thing that plays a good role in making the decoration of the place much more appealing, which we believe was the case with Belfast and Dublin.
In Belfast we have been to the yearly Belfast Christmas market ( and we also got the chance to visit the famous shopping center where one could find everything he/she is searching for with all the shops it has, which is Victoria Square. Christmas in Belfast was interesting for us not only because of the lights and decorations, but also for the kind of food and drinks which we only get the chance to have from one year to the other (
Dublin was kind of the same; we walked through the different streets of the city - the city centre - got something to drink in the middle of the way, enjoyed the lights and the decorations of the street, and also passed by those Christmas carols which are rehearsed and sung in the streets and that's of course apart from the shops and restaurants which are decorated in the same kind of way (
Our series of trip to those different cities to check how glamorous their Christmas turned out to be also stopped at Antrim Castle Gardens where Christmas was being celebrated in the most right way with all the games, the food, the shows, and even the music played there; we had fun there along with the kids and we are just crossing our fingers that it would be repeated next year as well (
There are different cities around the world which are famous for the Christmas and New Year decorations that they tend to do and thus they become the favorite for lots of people, such as London for example which is known for its decorations, its shopping, and its atmosphere in general.

Today we are walking around Belfast city centre, the video was taken on June 19, 2022 after 3:00 p.m. Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland, where the British transatlantic steamer Titanic was launched, collided with an iceberg and sank in 1912. You can get acquainted with its history at the reconstructed shipyards of the Titanic quarter, which houses the Titanic Belfast museum, lined with aluminum sheets, resembling the hull of a ship, the drawing rooms of the Harland & Wolfe shipbuilding company and the Titanic slipways, where open-air concerts are held.

Castle Gardens Lisburn; A Refreshing Walk in the Garden
If visiting Lisburn City - the Castle Gardens is a nice place for a walk - one of the best things to do in Lisburn - perfect for a family or just to chill for a little while. There are a few other nice places to check out in Lisburn as well - do check out some of our links below.
Lisburn is known to be the third largest city in all of Northern Ireland and this brings us to the point of visiting and exploring its streets and some of the most important touristic attractions which one should head for once being in the city. One of those most visited places and which happens to be the most important is the Castle Gardens in Lisburn.
Lisburn Castle Gardens is the ideal place for those who want to have a relaxing and refreshing walk by nature or even those who just want to sit in a place steeped in history and bring their minds to rest for some time. There are some statues located in the garden that would immediately link you to the history of the place and will bring you to know more about it all.
Actually, Lisburn Castle Gardens is the most historically significant open space in Lisburn and it was also the place where Lisburn Castle was once situated; a 17th century manor house that was once built by the Conway family, the landlords of Lisburn. This garden was not a public place until the death of the last landlord of Lisburn, Sir Richard Wallace, and his wife, Lady Wallace, that their heir Sir Murray Scott gifted it to the people of Lisburn in 1903. The Manor House was actually destroyed during the great fire that took place in Lisburn in 1707.
The upper section of the garden dates back to the Victorian times and it actually carries many historical significant features that include the 1677 red sandstone gateway, the Wallace drinking fountain, and a memorable erected in 1891 that honors Lisburn's landlord Sir Richard Wallace.
There were some archaeological excavations that took place in Lisburn Castle Gardens during its renovation times and at this point there were different 17th century artifacts discovered that include a double flight staircase and a gazebo; some of these different artifacts are now placed and found in Lisburn Museum which is located in Lisburn city centre.
What you are going to see in Lisburn Castle Gardens is not the same as the old one which used to be found back in the 17th century of course, there are different renovations done to the place
by Lisburn city council that was even supported by Grant Aid from The Heritage Lottery Fund in 2008.
It always feels different to visit a garden that dates to years and years back and takes its part in the history of the whole city, but in addition to the history of the place, it is also considered important to enjoy the place as being one green area that you could walk through, sit in, and have some kind of refreshed air away from all the tension that you might be passing by in your daily life.
Lisbrun city is not far away from Belfast, so it won't be hard to go and visit it if you have some spare time which you are willing to spend somewhere else - it is only 8 miles southwest of Belfast - and there are actually different things to visit there in addition to walking down the streets of the city.
While exploring Lisburn Castle Gardens, we also had the chance to visit the famous Irish Linen Centre and Lisburn Museum which would take you through the linen industry of the city and it also offers some workshops and free tours ( there is also the famous Christ Church Cathedral which was named St. Thomas Church before and which is also important when it comes to this city ( the Island Arts Centre is another place and option to consider ( and finally there's the famous Giant's Ring (
We have been to Lisburn before several times and in every single one of them we managed to explore something new about this beautiful city. We have been through a walk before that included passing by those different locations and we actually fell in love with it all; exploring the streets, passing by all these shops and boutiques, and at the same time knowing that one of Northern Ireland's biggest shopping destinations, the Bow Street Mall, is actually located in Lisburn and it has more than 70 shops (
If you are looking forward to explore a new city other than Belfast, you could head to Lisburn for being close, for once being part of the Belfast Metropolitan Area, and also for being situated on River Lagan forming the boundary between county Antrim and county Down.
