We started on the north eastern side at Porto da Cruz and went counter clockwise through Porto Moniz, Calheta, Ribeira Brava and Camacha back to the airport where we started this amazing trip.

Camacha is a beautiful small village a few kilometres in the hills east of Funchal. It is famous for its 'Apple Festival' and its very active folklore dance groups.
Camacha is also called 'the village of basket makers'.

Ausgangspunkt für unsere Fahrt mit „Blick durch die Windschutzscheibe“ ist Camacha, östlich von Funchal und kommen unterschiedlich steil, auf einer ruhigen, kaum befahrenen Straße (ER203 & ER103) und meist bewaldeter Landschaft, nach etwa 20 Minuten Fahrzeit zum eher unspektakulären Poiso-Pass in 1412m Seehöhe, von dem die bekannte Gipfelstraße zum Pico do Arieiro abzweigt!

PORTUGAL most beautiful places of Madeira (trailer)
I have re-edited the video recordings we made during our visit to Madeira in 2016. Join us on our trips day by day. However the first upload is an introduction to what you can watch coming weeks.
Madeira is one of the two autonomous regions of Portugal, the other being the Azores. It is an archipelago situated in the North Atlantic Ocean, in a region known as Macaronesia, just under 400 kilometres to the north of the Canary Islands and 520 kilometres west of Morocco. Madeira is geologically located on the African Tectonic Plate, though the archipelago is culturally, economically and politically European. Its total population was estimated in 2021 at 251,060. The capital of Madeira is Funchal, which is located on the main island's south coast.
The archipelago includes the islands of Madeira, Porto Santo, and the Desertas. The autonomous region is an integral part of the European Union as an outermost region. Madeira generally has a very mild and moderate subtropical climate with mediterranean summer droughts and winter rain.
Madeira, originally uninhabited, was claimed by Portuguese sailors in the service of Prince Henry the Navigator in 1419 and settled after 1420. The archipelago is considered to be the first territorial discovery of the exploratory period of the Age of Discovery.
As of 2017, it was a popular year-round resort, being visited every year by about 1.4 million tourists, almost six times its population. The region is noted for its Madeira wine, gastronomy, historical and cultural value, flora and fauna, landscapes (laurel forest) that are classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and embroidery artisans. The main harbour in Funchal has long been the leading Portuguese port in cruise liner dockings, receiving more than half a million tourists through its main port in 2017, being an important stopover for commercial and trans-Atlantic passenger cruises between Europe, the Caribbean and North Africa.

Top places on MADEIRA ISLAND, Portugal - We lived here for 5 months!
Madeira Island a bucket list place for so many in Portugal! Funny enough we didn't even know about this beautiful island until our flight happened to stop here on the way to Turkey and immediately I knew it was special! So special that when we came back to Madeira we ended up living here for 5 months! Spent one month living on Ponta Do Sol and then Calheta and then the rest of the time in Canico but adventured a ton during those 5 months so ask us anything!

The whole island is mountainous, and therefore the interior is sparsely populated. There is a plateau Paul da Serra (1500 m above sea level), which passes in a place called Rabaçal into a deep valley.
