Explore Burnley - visit Burnley to discover award-winning parks and breathtaking stately homes
We're not just Claret and Blue - we're green too.
We are proud of many things about our town, one of which is our stunning countryside. Burnley is 80% rural, providing an excellent quality of life and making it a fantastic place to visit. Whether you’re into windsurfing, hiking, kayaking, cycling, sailing, golf or horse riding, you can do it all right here in Burnley.
Many of our parks have been awarded Green Flags for their high standards. Queen’s Park is 28 acres and dates back to 1893, with many of its traditional design and features still in place. As well as bowling greens and tennis courts, you can also play basketball, football or show off your tricks in the skate park.
Thompson Park, like Queen’s Park, is a registered historic park and gardens, and is home to a charming boating lake, a recently refurbished children’s playground and paddling pool, a putting green and popular miniature railway, making it perfect for families who live in and visit Burnley.
Another historic park is Ightenhill Park, which dates back to 1912. As well as facilities such as a bowling green and tennis courts, it also hosts the annual Ightenhill Festival. Scott Park is also fun for all the family, with a giant draughts board, woodland walks and a Victorian bandstand, whilst Memorial Park in Padiham provides beautiful walks along the River Calder.

Places to see in ( Holmfirth - UK )
Holmfirth is a small town on the A6024 Woodhead Road in the Holme Valley, within the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England. Centred upon the confluence of the Holme and Ribble rivers, Holmfirth is 6 miles (9.7 km) south of Huddersfield and 13 miles (21 km) northeast of Glossop.
Holmfirth mostly consists of stone-built cottages nestled in the Pennine hills. The Peak District National Park around Holme Moss is 4 miles (6.4 km) to the south of the town of Holmfirth. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Holmfirth was once a centre for pioneering film-making by Bamforth & Co., which later switched to the production of saucy seaside postcards. Between 1973 and 2010 both Holmfirth and the Holme Valley became well known as the filming location of the BBC's situation comedy Last of the Summer Wine.
Holmfirth (and the surrounding countryside) is the setting for the BBC's long-running comedy Last of the Summer Wine. Thousands of tourists flock to the area each year to enjoy scenery and locations familiar from the series. Filming of the TV Slaithwaite-based drama, Where the Heart Is, had also taken place in and around the area.
Holmfirth used to have its own branch line, off the Huddersfield to Sheffield line (commonly referred to as the Penistone Line), this short, 2 mile (3 km), line branched from the mainline just south of Brockholes. Holmfirth bus station is located in the centre of Holmfirth from which regular bus services take varying routes around the outlying villages and to Huddersfield's bus and railway stations.
Holmfirth constitutes a town of its own almost seven miles (11 km) south of the larger town of Huddersfield. While the town of Holmfirth itself is comparatively small, it is surrounded by several hamlets and villages. These neighbouring settlements are often collectively referred to as Holmfirth and include:- Austonley, Arrunden, Burnlee, Cinderhills, Cliff, Deanhouse, Gully, Flushhouse, Hade Edge, Thongsbridge, Upperthong and Washpit. Many of these are located on Cartworth Moor. Other villages and hamlets within the Holmfirth post town include:- Brockholes, Fulstone, Jackson Bridge, Hepworth, Holme, Holmbridge, Honley, Meltham, Netherthong, New Mill, Scholes, Totties, Underbank and Wooldale.
( Holmfirth - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Holmfirth . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Holmfirth - UK

Burnsall, Yorkshire Dales, UK 🇬🇧
Burnsall is a small village located in the picturesque Yorkshire Dales National Park of North Yorkshire, England. This is a very picturesque village surrounded by fells and farmland and situated on the River Wharfe. Popular with walkers, the village lies on the Dales Way, which is an 85 mile long walking route between Iikley and Bowness-on-wildermere.
The most prominent feature of the village is the bridge which spans the river. An original bridge was first built in 1609, with a rebuild performed in 1884 after it was damaged by a flood. You will notice the triangular segments on the sides, this is to allow pedestrians to make way for passing vehicles, but nowadays they also make good viewing points. The village is home to around 100 people with two hotels, a large public house, a parish church, village shop, two cafes, and a primary school.
Flowing along side the village is the River Wharfe, from which Wharfedale takes its name. It acts as a natural boundary between the counties of West and North Yorkshire. The river is 65 miles long and starts at Langstrothdale before flowing into the River Ouse at Cawood. The river can be viewed at many popular locations including Linton Falls near Grassington and The Strid near Bolton Abbey.

Places to see in ( Grassington - UK )
Places to see in ( Grassington - UK )
Grassington is a market town and civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England. The population at the 2011 Census was 1,126. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the town is situated in Wharfedale, about 8 miles (10 km) north-west from Bolton Abbey, and is surrounded by limestone scenery. Nearby villages include Linton, Threshfield, Hebden, Conistone and Kilnsey.
The Domesday Book lists Grassington as part of the estate of Gamal Barn including 7 carucates of ploughland (840 acres/350ha) including Grassington, Linton and Threshfield. The Norman conquest of England made it part of the lands of Gilbert Tison. But by 1118 Tison had suffered a demotion and his lands returned to the king then given to Lord Percy.
Originally the settlement was spelt as Gherinstone and also was documented as Garsington or Gersington. The name Grassington derives variously from the Scandinavian, Anglo-Saxon and Gothic languages and means either the town of the grassy ings or a farmstead surrounded by grass.
Grassington was historically a township in the parish of Linton in the West Riding of Yorkshire. It became a separate civil parish in 1866, and was transferred to North Yorkshire in 1974. Although often described by local people as a village, Grassington was granted a Royal Charter for a market and fair in 1282 giving it market town status.
Grassington is the main residential and tourist centre in Upper Wharfedale. Centred on its small cobbled square are shops, public houses, the village museum, small cafes, restaurants and hotels. Grassington Folk Museum houses a collection which tells the story of Wharfedale. Grassington Festival is a two-week-long annual event started in 1980, with music, performance and visual arts, held in a number of venues around the village.
Grassington is served by the B6265, which runs between Skipton and Green Hammerton via Pateley Bridge and Boroughbridge (being a more circuitous route that the A59 road which connects Skipton and Green Hammerton). Buses connect Grassington with Ilkley and Skipton operating a moderate service to Skipton, but only a three-day a week service to Ilkley. The town used to have a joint railway station terminus with Threshfield on the Yorkshire Dales Railway. The station was located on the west side of the River Wharfe, so it was not actually in Grassington.
( Grassington - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Grassington . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Grassington - UK
