Loughborough Canal Walk - British Canals VIDEO TOUR (Leicestershire, UK)

Doing the Loughborough Canal Walk!

A waterside walk from Loughborough to Leicester along a section of the Grand Union Canal and the River Soar. It's about a 13 mile route, so it's possible to do in a day. At the end of the walk you can get the train directly back to Loughborough from Leicester.
The walk starts on the canal just to the east of the train station. You can access the towpath from Moor Lane Bridge and then follow it south east towards the village of Barrow Upon Soar.

The route continues through the lovely Soar Valley to Mountsorrel and Syston, where you pass through Watermead Country Park. It's a real highlight on the route with 12 lakes, wildflower meadows, woodland, grassland and reedbeds. Look out for a whole host of wildlife on this section of the walk.

The final section takes you through Birstall and Belgrave, before finishing at Abbey Park in Leicester. It's a lovely finish to the walk with the attractive park including formal gardens, a sensory garden, a boating lake, a model boat lake, a miniature railway and pretty bridge over the River Soar.

River Soar - VIDEO TOUR (Leicester, England, UK)

The River Soar in Leicester!

The River Soar is a major tributary of the River Trent in the English East Midlands and is the principal river of Leicestershire. The source of the river is midway between Hinckley and Lutterworth. The river then flows north through Leicester, where it is joined by the Grand Union Canal. Continuing on through the Leicestershire Soar Valley, it passes Loughborough and Kegworth until it reaches the Trent at the county boundary. In the 18th century, the Soar was made navigable, initially between Loughborough and the Trent, and then through to Leicester. It was not until the early 19th century that it was linked by the Grand Union Canal to the wider network to the south and to London.

Places to see in ( Tenbury Wells - UK )

Places to see in ( Tenbury Wells - UK )

Tenbury Wells is a market town and civil parish in the north-western extremity of the Malvern Hills District of Worcestershire, England, which at the 2011 census had a population of 3,777. Tenbury Wells lies on the south bank of the River Teme, which forms the border between Shropshire and Worcestershire. It is in the north-west of the Malvern Hills District. The settlement of Burford in Shropshire lies on the north bank of the river.

From 1894 to 1974, it was a rural district, comprising itself and villages such as Stoke Bliss, Eastham and Rochford. From 1974 Tenbury was in the District of Leominster until it became part Malvern Hills District when Leominster District Council was taken over by Herefordshire Council in April 1998. The history of Tenbury Wells extends as far back as the Iron Age. The town is often thought of as the home to the Castle Tump, but this is now in Burford, Shropshire due to boundary changes. Though the Tump, possibly the remains of an early Norman motte and bailey castle, can be seen from the main road (A456) there are no visible remains of the castle that was constructed to defend and control the original River Teme crossing. It has also been described as ... the remains of an 11th century Norman Castle.

Tenbury was in the upper division of Doddingtree Hundred. Originally named Temettebury, the town was granted a Royal Charter to hold a market in 1249. Over time, the name changed to Tenbury, and then added the Wells following the discovery of mineral springs and wells in the town in the 1840s. The name of the railway station, which was on the now-defunct Tenbury & Bewdley Railway, was changed in 1912, in an attempt to publicise the mineral water being produced from the wells around the town.

One notable architectural feature in the town is the unique (often described as Chinese-Gothic) Pump Rooms, designed by James Cranston in the 1860s, to house baths where the mineral water was available. Other notable structures in Tenbury include the parish church of St Mary with a Norman tower, and a number of monuments. The church was essential rebuilt by Henry Woodyer between 1864 and 1865. The part-medieval bridge over the River Teme, linking Tenbury to Burford, Shropshire was rebuilt by Thomas Telford following flood damage in 1795. The Grade II-listed Eastham bridge dramatically collapsed into the River Teme on 24 May 2016. There were no reports of any casualties.

The Victorian Workhouse, designed by George Wilkinson, was used as the local Council Buildings from 1937 to the early 21st century and is currently being converted into residential housing. The Victorian infirmary behind the workhouse was demolished to create car parking for a new large Tesco Superstore, which opened on 27 April 2017. Tenbury was also known as the town in the orchard due to the large numbers of fruit orchards of apple trees and also pears, quince and plum trees, in the immediate vicinity of the town. This heritage is revisited every October during the Tenbury Applefest.

( Tenbury Wells - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Tenbury Wells . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Tenbury Wells - UK

Central Leicester to Sileby Mill on the River Soar

We leave the town centre and pass through areas of industrial decay and redevelopment, heading North on the River Soar. The two town centtre locks North of the moorings have broken paddle gear. We meet a huge group of children on various canoes and kayaks coming through the lock by the Natiional Space Centre, some of whom are desparate to get on YouTube, so I oblige, well we are in public and they are not identifiable by name, so where's the harm? Further north, the navigation becomes much more river like, with a steady current and lots of meanders. We meet some magnet fishers who have just removed an 80 Kilo safe from the lock layby, and some canoeists who demonstrate their skills doing rollovers and capsize rescue. Finally on to Sileby Mill, where we have a look around the lock and the weir.

Please have a look at my other videos of cruising the cut.

Trains at Detling, HS1 | 12/02/22

This Video is Property of Richard Chalklin!

1080p 50fps HD!

After waiting for Eurostar to increase services due to COVID restrictions being eased i finally made my first visit to Detling after a good 6 hours spent here i was glad to finally be able to tick it off for a spotting session, however typical British winter weather it was bitterly cold & sunset was early so got some daylight & night videos. I tried many different angles here to get the most out of it. As per usual as night time came there were some crazy & awesome sparks from the Eurostar trains speeding along at 186mph (300kmh). Similar to my Boxley night spot there was plenty of light pollution around when night came so i could still easily see where i was walking (the video makes it look a lot darker than how it actually was). I will almost certainly make a return here in the spring where the weather is warmer & of course longer periods of sunlight, in addition when Eurostar reinstate more services whenever that is some services will be 373s as they are making a return to service!
