There are many markets and floating markets in and around Bangkok.Today I am going to take you to some markets either side of Chao Phraya River Bangkok. Chao Phraya Express Boat trip is very nice for a day long tour. This express boat trip cost you 120 baht and you will get a ticket with a tourist brochure about the attractions the piers. Nonthaburi Province in Thailand
Due to its close proximity to Bangkok the city is actually considered to be a suburb of the national capital, and is more or less considered a part of Greater Bangkok - had it not been for the signposts you'd hardly notice where one ends and the other begins. Officially, however, Nonthaburi is one of the five neighboring provinces of Bangkok. Covering an area of 622.303 square kilometres and separated into 2 parts by the Chao Phraya River, Nonthaburi is administratively divided into six districts: Mueang Nonthaburi, Pak Kret, Bang Kruai, Bang Yai, Bang Bua Thong and Sai Noi.

Floating market in Bangkok Thailand. In the past, Nonthaburi was filled with many small canals for people to transport easily through water. Though, in the present day, almost all canals have been transformed to roads with only few remaining canals. One of the canals that still remains its vigorous until nowadays is on Wang Takien canal area, Bang Khu Wieng Sub-District, Bang Kruai District. Wat Takien Floating Market is grand opened on May 2nd, 2009 by Luang Poo Yam (Venerable Grandfather Yam). He performed an opening ceremony and sprinkle the holy water to the sellers that float their selling boats. The idea is to recover the past generations' way of life for newer generations to experience. Also, he wants to use the canal area for the villagers to earn profit without any expenses. The purpose is to giving the villagers back their gratitude, the reason this temple is still here is because the villagers' regularly make merits and donate to the temple. Inside the floating market, there are various items available for purchasing on the shore, such as vegetables, fruits, barbequed coconut, Look Choob (delectable imitation fruits), Thai desserts, etc. You can also purchase items from the paddling boats, for examples, seasonal fruits, pot-stewed duck, boat noodles, and herbal drinks. After satisfied with the food, the floating market also have interesting activities such as paddling water bicycle, scenery sightseeing by boat of Bang Khu Wieng canal and Bang Rao Nok canal to experience the people's way of life along the canal that still preserved ancient Thai-style houses which is full of natural aesthetics and trace of civilization and fine arts. For those who are interested in experiencing the old times' way of life along the canal, you can transport by personal car starting from the Khae Rai intersection in Nonthaburi, drive straight crossing Rama V's bridge, keep driving straight long Nakara-Inn Road to Kanjanapisek Road. Then take a U-turn under the bridge before crossing the intersection, drive back for around 1 kilometers, you will see overpass then turn left into parallel way and turn left towards Wat Takien sign. However, if travelling from Bang Yai, at the intersection, where turning left to Rama V's bridge, turn left and continue around 1 kilometer. When encountering overpass and the temple's entrance on the left, drive along the road for around 1 kilometer and you will finally arrive at the temple ahead by crossing the bridge and your car can be parked in the temple area. In another neighborhood, I stumbled upon a tiny restaurant serving the most tender and flavorful boat noodles, made with a secret blend of spices and herbs that's been passed down through generations. The streets of Bangkok are also home to a vibrant night market, where vendors sell everything from crispy fried insects to creamy coconut ice cream. From the spicy kick of som tam to the sweet indulgence of khao niew mamuang, every dish is a testament to the city's rich culinary heritage.
One unforgettable street food experience that stands out is trying the famous crab omelette at a small stall in the Chinatown district. The combination of fluffy eggs, succulent crab meat, and sweet chili sauce is absolute perfection, and it's a dish that I'll be dreaming about for a long time. The stall has been run by the same family for over 30 years, and their dedication to using only the freshest ingredients and traditional cooking methods is evident in every bite. What makes this dish truly special is the way the flavors and textures all come together to create a harmonious balance of sweet, sour, and savory notes. The crab omelette is more than just a dish – it's a reflection of the city's cultural diversity and culinary expertise.
