The fount of Morgan le Fay is a small sixteenth-century building, isolated in the countryside, near Grassina in the municipality of Bagno a Ripoli in the province of Florence. The fount of Morgan le Fay was built by Bernardo Vecchietti between 1573 and 1574 on a source that was located in the properties surrounding his villa Il Riposo, on the slopes of the Fattucchia hill. Raffaello Borghini described it in his 1584 book entitled Il Riposo. Inside, the source was decorated with the marble statue of the Fata Morgana to which the source is dedicated, sculpted by Giambologna, now in a private collection. The building develops in an L-shaped area over a limited area, built as a theatrical backdrop with two contiguous elevations. The entrance and windows are finished in Alberese stone; the architraves have tympanums with rustic rough-hewn segments, similar to clubs that give the facade an upward movement. On the left there is a 16th century tabernacle in pietra serena. Inside there is a fountain consisting of a basin in pietra serena, supported by a rough basement whose zoomorphic shape recalls the tail of a siren. The water that overflows from the stone basin falls in a cascade into the hexagonal tank below, at the center of which is the brick base that supported the statue of the Fata Morgana. On the sides of the fountain, two symmetrical portals complete the scenography. From the left one you enter, through a small staircase, the upper level where there are small rooms, one of which was intended for the kitchen. The whole set seems to amaze the viewer with a magical and fantastic sense expressed by the decorative and architectural elements of the source enhanced by the charm of the surrounding countryside, which envelops the Nymphaeum in an almost unreal atmosphere. Recently acquired by the Municipality of Bagno a Ripoli, the Fonte della Fata Morgana has been restored by the Superintendency for Architectural Heritage and Landscape and for the Historical Artistic and Demo-ethno-anthropological Heritage for the Provinces of Florence, Pistoia and Prato. In 2016 the Municipality promoted a crowfounding action to recover economic resources for the maintenance of the small complex.

Welcome to our Florence video!! In this video we will show you how we spent our time travelling around the Florence area. We started off our journey on the train leaving Rome. Our train experience was a little rough and a little long by we made it through. We decided to stay a couple nights out in the Florence countryside (Shoutout to Bigallo Hostel). We enjoyed our time in the countryside by doing a wine tasting and hiking around. We spent the next few days taking in the beautiful city of Florence. We walked around, saw all the beautiful buildings and ate some amazing sandwiches. On our last day in Florence we hit up Cinque Terre (check out our video, linked below). Gino Bartali (Ponte a Ema, 18 July 1914 - Florence, 5 May 2000) was an Italian road cyclist and sports manager. Professional from 1934 to 1954, nicknamed Ginettaccio, he won three Giri d'Italia (1936, 1937, 1946) and two Tour de France (1938, 1948), as well as numerous other races between the thirties and fifties, among which four Milan-Sanremo and three tours of Lombardy. In particular, his victory at the Tour de France 1948, according to many, contributed to easing the climate of social tension in Italy after the attack on Palmiro Togliatti. Bartali's career was however considerably conditioned by the Second World War, which occurred in his best years; in 2013 he was declared righteous among the nations for his activity in favor of the Jews during the second world war. He was a great opponent of Fausto Coppi, of whom he was older than five years: their rivalry was legendary, which divided Italy in the immediate post-war period (also due to the alleged different political positions of the two): famous in capturing an entire sporting era - enough to enter the collective imagination of the Italians - is the photo that portrays the two champions while passing a bottle of water during the ascent to the Col du Galibier at the Tour de France 1952.
