We wanted to visit a good Portuguese market since It's been a few years since we last visited one, Almeirim was the chosen one in Santarém District.
Almeirim is also home to the famous sopa da pedra (stone soup). The guarded recipe dates back generations, the soup is the reason many come to this charming town including us.

Santarém - Portugal
Santarém é uma cidade portuguesa, capital do Distrito de Santarém, com cerca de 28 900 habitantes (32 000 na área urbana).
Desde 2002 que está integrada na região estatística (NUTS II) do Alentejo e na subregião estatística (NUTS III) da Lezíria do Tejo; até aí fazia parte da antiga região de Lisboa e Vale do Tejo. Pertencia ainda à antiga província do Ribatejo (hoje porém sem qualquer significado político-administrativo), da qual era capital.
É também sede de um município com 560,2 km² de área e 63 630 habitantes (Escalabitanos) (2008), subdividido em 28 freguesias. O município é limitado a norte pelos municípios de Porto de Mós, Alcanena e Torres Novas, a leste pela Golegã e pela Chamusca, a sueste por Alpiarça e Almeirim, a sul pelo Cartaxo, a sudoeste pela Azambuja e a oeste por Rio Maior.
