Adalaj ki fav - step-well - islamic architectures, Ahmedabad, Gujarat Tourism
Set in the quiet village of Adalaj, this seven-story step well is a marvel of architecture in Ahmadabad, Gujarat. Historically, the well used to serve as a resting place for hundreds to pilgrims and caravans who travelled along trade routes.
With an Indo-Islamic architecture and design, Queen Rudabai, wife of the Vaghela chief, Veersinh, built this stepwel in Gujarat in 1499. Structured to be an ideal resting place, the well seeps in sufficient air and light through its numerous small windows .The temperature inside is cooler than the outside.
It is believed that in ancient times, villagers would come here every morning to fill water and offer prayers.
This one-of its-kind step well has three entrance stairs which meet at its first storey leading to a huge square platform. It also has a huge octagonal opening as its top.
Media India Group visited this famous tourist attraction and brings to you a first-hand experience of this marvel, which demonstrates the diverse cultural ethos of a time gone by.

1. Adalaj Stepwell : Adalaj Stepwell or Rudabai Stepwell is a stepwell located in the village of Adalaj, close to Ahmedabad city and in Gandhinagar district in the Indian state of Gujarat. It was built in 1498 by Rana Veer Singh of the Vaghela dynasty of Dandai Desh. It is a fine example of Indian architecture work.
2. Akshardham Temple : Swaminarayan Akshardham in Gandhinagar, Gujarat is a large Hindu temple complex inspired by Yogiji Swami, the fourth spiritual successor of Lord Swaminarayan according to the denomination of Swaminarayan Hinduism, and created by Pramukh Swami, the fifth spiritual successor of Lord Swaminarayan according to the denomination of Swaminarayan Hinduism. Located in the capital of Gujarat, the complex was built over 13 years and is a tribute to Lord Swaminarayan and his life and teachings.
3. Dandi Kutir - The Gandhi Museum : Dandi Kutir is India’s Largest & Only Museum built on the life and teachings of One Man, Mahatma Gandhi. It represents Gandhi’s powerful idea of people across lines of class, gender, age and community asserting their common right to salt itself: a symbol to inspire a pluralistic society to march towards independence, Purna Swaraj. A glimpse of Gandhi’s early life is beautifully portrayed with the help of audio- visuals. From his birth on 2nd October 1869 in Kathiawad, to his childhood when he was a shy , remarkable and unique student. It also traces his marriage to Kasturba and his experiments with youth.
4. Gujarat Science City : Gujarat Science City, located in Hebatpur, Ahmedabad, is part of a government initiative to draw more students towards education in science. The center hosts an IMAX 3D theatre, an energy park, a hall of science, Planet Earth, an amphitheatre,Life Science Park and dancing musical fountains among others.
5. Indroda Dinosaur and Fossil Park : The Indroda Dinosaur and Fossil Park in Ahmedabad in the state of Gujarat, India,is a park which houses the fossilized remains and the petrified eggs of the dinosaurs. It is technically a man made fossil park and not the actual nesting grounds where the dinosaurs lived. The eggs and fossils on display here are actually from the world's 3rd largest dinosaur fossil excavation site and 2nd largest hatchery located at Raiyoli, Balasinor, Gujarat.
6. Punit Van : Punit Van is a botanical garden located in Sector 19 in Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat in India. It was developed in 2005 by the forest department of the Government of Gujarat. The forest department has developed several acres of land where the planted trees have been associated with stars, planets and zodiac signs. Punitmeans holy and Van means forest in Gujarati.
7. Sant Sarovar Dam : Sant Sarovar Dam is famous one day picnic spot located in Gujarat state capital city Gandhinagar.Sant Sarovar Dam build on Sabarmati river at gandhinagar.
8. Sarita Udhyan : SaritaUdyan is located in Sector 9 of Gandhinagar, the capital city Gujarat. The name ‘SaritaUdyan’ itself suggests its geographical position as ‘Sarita’ means river and ‘Udyan’ means garden. This beautiful garden is located on the bank of River Sabarmati, making it a favorite tourist spot. One can plan a day long picnic with friends and family at SaritaUdyan.
9. Swarnim Park : Landscaped, linear park featuring lawns, walking paths, a playground & a statue of Sardar Patel.
10. Thol Lake Bird Sanctuary : Thol lake bird sanctuary is a shallow freshwater body surrounded by marshes on the edge and scrubby forest embarking the sides. The lake sanctuary covering an area of 7 square kilometers was declared officially in 1988 and is also known by the name of Thol Bird Sanctuary

Hello Everyone, welcome to The Unplanned Way.
Today we will be taking you to Gujarat Ahmedabad city tour in Gujarat. In this video we cover must visit places in ahmedabad and also ahmedabad food tour like the famous jalaram khaman surat. Among things to do in Ahmedabad, we cover adalaj ki vav/ adalaj stepwell ahmedabad, mahemdabad ganpati mandir, indroda park, statue of unity, sabarmati riverfront ahmedabad and vintage car museum ahmedabad.
On Day 1 in Gujarat, we cover main ahmedabad tourist places like Sabarmati ashram and the ahmedabad riverfront areas.
On Day 2, we cover places in ahmedabad to visit including the adalaj stepwell ahmedabad, indroda park ahmedabad, mahemdavad and vintage car museum ahmedabad.
On Day 3 of gujarat tourism and ahmedabad sightseeing, we cover the statue of unity tour.
We drove from Mumbai to Ahemedabad with a halt along the way at the Gujarati thali restaurant, Sasuma.
Our first stop amongst Ahmedabad tourist places was at the Sabarmati Ashram also known as the Gandhi Ashram situated at the Sabarmati Riverfront. It is near to the sabarmati railway station in gujarat ahmedabad city. At the Sabarmati ashram at sabarmati ahmedabad, there is an impressive museum that throws light on the life of Mahatma Gandhi. From the sabarmati ashram you can see the sabarmati riverfront ahmedabad.
It was from this sabarmati Ashram that Gandhiji led the Dandi March on 12 March 1930 which is known as Salt Satyagraha. Gandhiji along with his followers started the Dandi March from Sabarmati Ashram to Dandi that is 241 miles away from Sabarmati Ahmedabad.
Hriday Kunj in the sabarmati ashram video was Gandhiji’s home in the Sabarmati Ashram.
Inside Gandhiji’s Room at sabarmati ahmedabad, is his original charkha and desk. Outside lies the veranda.To left, is Kasturba’s room and a guest room.
After the Sabarmati ashram tour, we headed to the Sabarmati Riverfront flower park which is at a 10mins drive distance.
It is spread by the side of the sabarmati river.
We wanted to spend time by the riverfront so we went to the Sabarmati Riverfront Park. It is peaceful to sit by the ahmedabad riverfront and feel the fresh air and the calmness.
We started our Day 2 with Gujarati breakfast. We loved their style of serving in basket. We ordered chaat, patra or alu wadi, bread pakoda, fritters/bhajiya.
We then went to the Adalaj Stepwell ahmedabad also called Adalaj ki Vav.
This monument, Adalaj stepwell ahmedabad is a five storey stepwell. Adalaj ki Vav is a fascinating structure built in such a way that the temperature inside the Adalaj stepwell ahmedabad is almost 6 degrees lesser than outside temperature.
Next we headed to visit the Indroda Park Gandhinagar at 18km from Ahmedabad. Indroda Park is spread over an area of 400 hectares and regarded as India's Jurassic Park. Indroda park ahmedabad is very informative for kids.
We then decided to visit the Mahemdavad Ganpati Mandir at about 55 kms from Ahmedabad tourist point. The architecture of Mahemdavad Ganpati Mandir is like a cave. Mahemdavad Ganpati Mandir has a huge food court facility.
After taking blessings from the Mahemdavad Ganpati Mandir we went to visit our last stop from ahmedabad sightseeing. The Auto World Vintage car museum ahmedabad at the Dastan Estate. They also have a thali restaurant. One of the biggest personal collections by Bhogilal, you will find rare and wonderful assemblage of vehicles including a Bentley, Rolls Royce, Cadillac, Austin and Jaguar.
On Day 3, we left to visit the Statue of Unity tour created as a tribute to the ‘Iron Man of India’, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel statue in gujarat. The Statue of Unity India is an iconic 182 meters tall. Best time to visit the Statue of Unity Ahmedabad is from October to February. There are many accommodation options at the statue of unity gujarat.We went to see Sardar Sarovar Dam which is the third highest concrete dam in India.On our way back to Mumbai we stopped to have the famous rasawala khaman and locho at Jalaram Khaman Surat.

Ahmedabad, in western India, is the largest city in the state of Gujarat. The Sabarmati River runs through its center. 1.Sabarmati Ashram:
Once the residence of Mahatma Gandhi and his wife Kasturba, Sabarmati Ashram is undoubtedly the biggest tourist attraction situated in the suburb of Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Located on the tranquil and serene stretch of Sabarmati River, it was also referred to as the 'Gandhi Ashram', 'Mahatma Gandhi Ashram' and most importantly, 'Satyagraha Ashram' as Gandhi began the famous 'Dandi March' from here. In gratitude of the substantial impact Dandi march had on the Indian independence movement, the Indian government has recognized the Ashram as a national monument.
2.Adalaj Step Well:
Adalaj Stepwell is a magnificent structure built brilliantly to curb water crisis in and around Adalaj Village. The stepwell is located at a distance of 3 to 4 kilometres to the south-west of Gandhinagar, the capital city of Gujarat. The Adalaj Stepwell was built in 1498 and is one of the many step wells built in India to provide access to groundwater. The entire architecture is an excellent illustration of the intelligence of the engineers and architects India had even at that time. Walk in, and you will witness a sudden yet soothing drop in temperature. Breathe in the tranquillity, absorb the beauty of the intricate carvings, make a silent wish and rest for a while before you proceed with your plan for the day.
3.Kankaria Lake:
The second largest lake of Ahmedabad, formerly known as Hauz-e-Qutub, Kankaria Lake was built in the 15th century and was later revamped in 2008. Located in the south-eastern part of the city, it is a complete package of entertainment for your family. A pathway circumscribes the lake which has alluring activities and adventures for people of all age groups.
4.Jama Masjid:
The Jama Masjid situated in Ahmedabad is one of the largest mosques in India built in the period of 1424 and was built by Emperor Sultan Ahmed Shah. To the west of the mosque built are the tombs of Ahmed Shah I, his son and his grandson followed by the graves of the queens of the king.
5.Teen Darwaza:
Teen Darwaza is a historical gateway on the east of Bhadra Fort, Ahmedabad, India. Completed in 1415, it is associated with historical as well as legendary events. The gates are featured in the logo of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation.
6.Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Memorial:
Situated in the premises of Moti Shahi Mahal at Shahibaug in Ahmedabad, Sardar Vallabhai Patel National Museum is a museum and a memorial dedicated to the 1st Deputy Prime Minister of India- Sardar Vallabhai Patel. Surrounded by a beautiful garden, the museum also has umpteen exhibits and photographs from the Indian National Movement.

9.Auto World Vintage Car Museum:
A connoisseur of vintage cars converted his private collection of vintage cars into a museum. The collection comprises of the best of the world - Rolls Royce, Bentley, Jaguar, Cadillac, Austin and many more. The most interesting bit here is that you can get to drive the cars by paying a fee of Rs.500 for a fixed distance.
10.Bhadra Fort:
Bhadra Fort is situated in the walled city area of Ahmedabad, India. It was built by Ahmad Shah I in 1411. With its well carved royal palaces, mosques, gates and open spaces, it was renovated in 2014 by Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) as a cultural centre for the city.
